Chapter Never
Chapter 21
Angelique
To say I’m worried doesn’t even begin to describe why I haven’t stop combat practice in the last three hours. The simulator has been running on repeat getting harder and harder as it goes on. I don’t want to stop, I don’t want to think I just want to move. Moving is the only way I know how not to feel. Suddenly everything stops. I see Jake standing in the control room.
“Angelique...Enjeru. . .”
I run out of the room towards the council room not wanting to hear the words I’m sure are to come. I burst through the door and there’s Micah in the middle of the room Enjeru in his arms. He goes to step towards me but falls. I leap to catch them both. I look down at Enjeru and notice a new blazing red seal. I look down at Micah tears filling my eyes.
“I did Angelique I was able to do it.”
“You big idiot....thank you.”
“Why are you thanking me?”
“Because I didn’t want to lose such a good friend after just finding her. Thank you for saving her.”
“What choice did I have I.... .think.....love.....Her.”
“I know Micah. I know.”
He closes his eyes going limp, but I know he’s still alive just tired. Everyone in our squad is standing outside the door along with the Elders waiting to see the results. When they see me exiting calmly everyone relaxes.
“He did it. He fixed it.”
They all sigh in relief before helping me with the two.
“Now what couldn’t the boy do Marcus?” Jakob jest looking directly at Marcus.
Marcus just grumbles angry he was proved wrong.
“Jake help me take them to the infirmary.”
Jake grabs Enjeru while I take Micah. We walk in silence for some time.
“What would you have done if they would have tried to lock her away?”
“To be honest Angelique I don’t know. I’ve known Enjeru since we were children because of our families. But I don’t know if I could unleash her on the world if things went south.”
“If you had to would you seal her away for good?”
“If there was absolutely no other way than yes and even then I'm not sure if I could do it. Why are you asking?”
“Just curious I mean you never know what the future holds.”
“Yeah, I guess you're right.”
We continue until we get to the infirmary where they take the two away for testing. We start heading back when Jake stops.
“Don’t betray Enjeru if there’s one thing I can say about Enjeru she’s had enough of that in her life.” Then he walks off.
I stand there frozen not quite understanding why he’s telling me this. I couldn’t betray her. She’s too precious to Micah and I can’t lose him.
“I can’t betray her Jake. Because if I do she’ll take the one I love away. And it hurts enough with him halfway gone now."
