Chapter 20. No, Humans Don’t Fly
*Elentari*
“I hope I found everything to your liking, my Princess. Human stores are so strange!” She exclaimed. “Lady Emily gave me a potion of transfiguration so I would look just like them, but they still gave me strange looks.” Her face had an expression of indignance upon it.
“Did you fly while transfigured?” Belle asked her, trying to hide a smile.
“Of course I flew. I never walk anywhere. I don’t know that I would be able to hold myself upright if I tried to walk in that lanky body. It’s natural to me.” She was genuinely puzzled. “Do humans not fly?”
“No Tanz, humans do not fly unless they are in an airplane.” I tried so hard not to giggle that my face I’m sure was turning red. Then I spotted the brand names on the bags and squealed in delight. She finally put them on the bed, and I was immediately absorbed into examining the contents of each. One back was labeled ‘FucktheMainstream.com’ which was one of my absolute favorite online retailers. Another from Spencer’s, one from Torrid, another from Hot Topic. The sight was breathtaking to me. So much so I almost cried. “Thank you! You’re amazing Tanz!” I jumped up and hugged the pixie.
“It’s my duty, Princess. No need to thank me.” Her tone was awkward and I could feel she was uncomfortable with the display of affection. I released her, blushing a bit.
“I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable. I’m just grateful for the lengths you went to for me. Normally it would take me months if not a year to earn enough money for all of this.” I was in a state of disbelief. “But you retrieved this in a blink of an eye.” I don’t think she could comprehend how happy I was.
“Being your personal assistant is going to be most pleasurable. You are so humble, Princess. You can have anything you wish for at your fingers, but you’re so grateful for small gestures.” She held up another set of bags and my eyes almost bulged out of my head. “I also stopped at a beauty supply store and makeup shop. The ladies there were most helpful once I described you, your hair, skin, and nails. They directed me to everything I needed. Very efficient.” She was proud of herself as she gave the bags to me. One was from Sephora and the other from CosmoProf.
“Holy fuckballs….” I muttered. I had almost two thousand dollars worth of items in my possession, obtained in the matter of minutes. It rendered me speechless.
“Language!!” All three exclaimed in unison. This time I didn’t hold back my laugh. Their prudish opinions about language was beyond amusing to me.
“I can promise I will speak appropriately in public settings, but while in informal settings, I can’t promise anything.” I had to be honest. Belle and Alaric grimaced. “But I will try my best.” I added, just to appease them.
They seemed to relax at this point. My fingers traced over the clothes. A bright turquoise spaghetti strap shirt caught my eye. It was next to a deep, rich burgundy fishnet long sleeve top that had flecks of silver in it. There was also a pair of Tripp pants with the same silvery burgundy color in a soft velvety fabric along the seams of the pants and holding the chains into place that crisscrossed at the butt. Another two chains attached over the pockets with three sets of links on them. Silk sent a feeling of approval through me. My eyes then landed on a pink pushup bra covered with lace and matching panties. I immediately turned the color of a tomato. Tanz looked worried seeing my embarrassment. She diverted my attention to the new shoes. An exact matching pair of my favorite high heeled boots. They were knee highs with a zipper up the side and laces in the front.
I asked them if they wouldn’t mind giving me a moment of privacy so I could change. Once they were gone, I quickly dressed myself. It was still more revealing than I was used to but fit beautifully. The spaghetti strap top ended three inches above my belly button but the fishnet ended at my belly button, leaving only a couple inches truly exposed. My pants fit comfortably on my hips and reached the floor. I slipped on my boots adjusting them and lacing them after I zipped the sides. I smiled, feeling better already.
I opened the door for them and they came back in. Tanz now had a box in her hand and gave it to me. “I’m sorry this didn’t come in with the other items.” Almost as if she was ashamed and felt it wasn’t on time. I checked the box. It was my contacts. The only thing that puzzled me is there wasn’t a prescription on them. I forgot to tell her about that, but then it dawned on me. I wasn’t wearing my contacts now and I could see perfectly. I pop the contacts in, no problem, even without a mirror. Belle had a scrunched up face as I did so. “Are you squeamish over touching your eye?” I asked. She answered with a simple nod. “Well, I’ll do my best to put them in and take them out when you’re not around then. How do I look?” I asked, hoping the color matched.
“They look just as they did yesterday, Princess.” she flew around the room unable to stay still. “It’s about meal time!” She announced. “We’ll have to take care of your hair later tonight.”
Selene seemed annoyed I wanted to hide the symbol of her being me and me being her. Mentally I kept reasoning with her that it was for our safety. Too much attention would be on me before I was strong enough and had learned enough from them and that wouldn’t do. This way I could buy more time. Besides, when we were ready to, she could simply turn my hair color to whatever she wanted at that point. She relented after about a half hour, finally giving way to my concern.
Despite Scottie’s stares and the looks from Lady Emily, the rest of the day was uneventful. Belle gave me a beautiful black book, inlaid with a silver triple moon. I didn’t understand why I was being given so many things. I took the book back to my little room, closed the door and opened it. There was a handwritten note inside the cover.
Our Dearest Little Love,
We will not be able to be with you until you are old enough to not need us. We wish we could be there with all our heart and soul. This book is filled with spells, stories, and blank pages. It contains everything in the Tirisil Family Grimoire and room for you to add new knowledge into it. One day you will create a book like this for your child, or children. When you’re reading this, it will mean that you are 18 and have returned to Faerl. We don’t know if we will be by your side or not. A lot can change in 18 years. You are far from the new born baby we held so many moons ago and we hope that if we are blessed enough to meet in this lifetime, as we have dreamt of so many times, that you will be able to allow us to love you and call you our daughter. You are precious and even though you haven’t gotten the chance to know us, we have and always will love you.
Mom and Dad
As I read the inscription I cried. I let out all of my emotions. They crashed over me like a hurricane would ravage and decimate a coastal city. The realization that I had been truly loved by my parents my whole life hit me hard. I knew my mother was out there. Dad had told me so many times how she wanted to be there with me. But once I was eight it was like he forgot she existed. My heart was thumping loudly in my ears. My cries were loud and gut wrenching. I cried for time lost. I cried for the empty feeling I had growing up. I tried for their anguish. I cried for the absence they felt every day for years that I could not begin to comprehend. I cried for the guilt they felt in leaving me. I cried for a long time until the tears ran dry and my emotions began to calm. The storm inside turned into a gentle rain, washing away the negativity. The ladies within took this time to help soothe me, imparting memories of our past lives as the Lunar Guardian, when she had to be kept a secret, away from power greedy eyes. They showed me the happy memories of being reunited with parents and other loved ones. Selene came forward then to put me into a deep sleep. I needed the rest.
