Chapter 99
Chapter 99
Outside the car, a group of reporters were raising their cameras and surrounding the car trying to get some first–hand pictures.
In the car, Elizabeth stared at Mr. Hayes who was serious–looking. She felt inexplicably guilty.
“We…” Elizabeth laughed dryly and glanced around. “We’ve always been fine.”
Mr. Hayes looked deeply at Elizabeth and patted the back of her hand with a smile. “That’s good.”
“Yeah” Elizabeth did not dare to look directly at Mr. Hayes. She turned her head to look out of the car and quickly changed the topic. “Grandpa, what should we do with these paparazzi?”
“Don’t worry”
Mr. Hayes waved his hand. “This kind of uncertain news is not a big deal. We can cover it with a random celebrity scandal
“Liz, Hayes Group is going to be a little chaotic recently.
“Be careful when you’re outside. If anyone asks you any questions, don’t answer.
“There are too many traps in their words. I’m afraid you can’t handle it.”
Elizabeth was going to say that her and Andrew’s marriage was considered a secret. Not many people knew about it. They wouldn’t come to her.
However, she understood the risks and Mr. Hayes’s worry and nodded her head obediently. “Okay”
The bodyguards drove the reporters away before long.
They went back to the house.
When Mr. Hayes’s room was set up. Elizabeth finally had time to look at her phone. The news of a celebrity having an affair with a production team member had indeed spread.
The spread of scandals had always been the fastest, and it quickly covered the news of Hayes Group.
When Andrew came to the old house at night and said that he hoped Elizabeth could put aside her work in the psychology center and focus on accompanying Grandpa at home, she was a little dissatisfied.
“No way.”
Elizabeth looked at Andrew. The fatigue on his face made her feel sorry for him. But she still refused. “You know how special my job is.
“Being my long–term patients means they must trust me and need me to keep their emotions steady.
“If I don’t show up now, or hand them over to another doctor, their condition will get worse.
“I can’t do that. I’m sorry.”
“Then…”
Andrew pinched his nose in frustration. He could not figure out a way that suited both sides.
He was aware of the pain of being a patient with mental problems. He also understood how much a patient needed the comfort of a psychiatrist.
“How about this?” Elizabeth tiptoed closer to Andrew and pulled down his hand that was pinching his forehead. She used her thumbs to massage his forehead. “I’ll shift my focus on Grandpa..
“After counseling, I’ll come back immediately. I guarantee to spend more time at home than in the counseling room every day. Is that okay?”
Andrew closed his eyes tiredly and nodded. “Thank you for what you did.”
“When I’m done with all these, I’ll think of a way to make it up to you.”
Elizabeth smiled. “What’s there to make up for? Isn’t it only right to take care of Grandpa?”
“No.” Andrew opened his eyes and held Elizabeth’s hand. He looked into her eyes and said, “Nothing you did should be taken for granted
“I should thank you for taking care of Grandpa
Andrew had beautiful eyes, large and bright pupils with deep colors.
When he stared at you, his eyes would always sparkle like the surface of a lake on a sunny day. It was as if you could drown in it.
Elizabeth felt suffocated by his gaze.
“Don’t do that.”
Elizabeth laughed and pulled her hand out uncomfortably. “You made… I felt a little uncomfortable.”
“What’s wrong?” Andrew looked at Elizabeth. His eyes flashed and looked solemn. “I’m making you feel pressured, right?” “Not really.” Elizabeth crossed and rubbed her arms, avoiding eye contact.
This was a defensive gesture, obviously.
Andrew’s eyes darkened. “Do you not like me thanking you, or do you not like the feeling of my being frank and sincere to you?”
“No.” Elizabeth shook her head and did not want to continue this topic. “I’ll go and Grandpa later. From tomorrow onwards, we’ll do as I said.”
Andrew didn’t answer.
He stared straight at Elizabeth as if he wanted Elizabeth to answer that question.
The smile on Elizabeth’s face became more and more reluctant. She did not like it.
Ever since Andrew came back and asked her to stay home to take care of Grandpa, she had never liked it.
It was like she was just an object, which made her very unhappy.
“You’re angry.” Andrew’s brows were tightly furrowed. “If you are not happy with me or dissatisfied, tell me. I can do better. Just don’t make me guess. I’m not good at guessing.”
“I didn’t…” Elizabeth wanted to hide it, but under Andrew’s gaze, she finally said, “I hope that before you related to me in the future, you can think in my position and at least discuss it with me.
make any
decisions
“I’m not your subordinate. I don’t want you to give orders for me directly.”
Andrew did not expect such an answer. He was stunned. His brows gradually relaxed.
After a while, Andrew nodded heavily. “I understand. I’m sorry. This is a flaw in my character. I will fix it.”
“Alright.” Elizabeth smiled politely.
Just now, she suddenly had a strange thought.
Such a self–centered and unreasonable style belonged to the second personality obviously.
Could it be that Andrew’s two personalities were integrating? Was he cured? Then what did she stay by his side for?
The next day, after Elizabeth finished her work in the psychology center, she rushed back to the old house and saw Peter pushing Grandpa to the garden to enjoy the sunlight.
“Grandpa.” Elizabeth went and helped Mr. Hayes tuck in the blanket on his knees. “The wind is a little strong today. Why don’t we go to the conservatory?”
“No need.” Mr. Hayes took Elizabeth’s hand. “You’ve done too much for me. You must be exhausted.”
Elizabeth smiled gently. “Not at all”
“How come? You have to take care of me and your business at the same time. Rushing here and there. It is not good for your health. If you keep doing so, when will you be able to get pregnant?” Mr. Hayes smiled.
That was a difficult question to answer.
Elizabeth could only smile awkwardly. She used the same words as Andrew. “Let nature take its course.”
Mr. Hayes coughed exaggeratedly and looked up at Elizabeth sadly. “I’m old and want to have a great–grandson.
“Liz, don’t try to fool me. Tell me the truth. Can I have a great–grandson this year?”
Elizabeth was amused by his eagerness and smiled. She had never really thought about it.
Just as she was about to change the subject, she saw Mr. Hayes’s serious face. Her heart skipped a beat. She subconsciously thought about having a baby seriously.
After a while, she nodded seriously. “Of course, Grandpa. This year, you can expect a great–grandson.”
