Chapter 36
Together, she, her Nana and Kayak hurried to where doctor Benjamin was kept, while doctor Alaric went back to the hospital to wait for them. Two warriors guarded the door he was in. The instant he saw Reyna his face blanched of all colors. Two warriors dragged him out of the room he was locked in.
“Hi doctor, I see you're not surprised to see me,why?” Reyna asked. His mouth parted and close like a fish out of water.
“You know what, that can wait. Tell us how how to cure a person who has been affected by the poison you'd infected me with.”
"That…that wasn't me. It's doctor Elizabeth,” he stutter.
“Yes and you didn't stop her. I know you are her accomplice. We don't have time so start talking and be very careful whatever you say next might be your last words, what is the cure,” she threatened, her claws elongating, her fangs sliding out of her gums. To save Casvan Reyna would kill him without a second thought.
“I…I.. I have to see him first,” the poor doctor said. His eyes wide with fear. Kayak dragged him all the way back to the hospital where Casvan is still unconscious. They all watch and waited while he wash his hands, then began to check Casvan over.
He and doctor Alaric talked a lot during this time in medical terminology that angered Reyna because she couldn't understand a single thing they were saying. With every minute that passes she was unraveling, her hope shattering. After the longest time and still nothing she snapped.
"Well, what the hell did you find out?”
“I'm…I'm sorry Princess… but I don't see anything wrong. I don't know what is wrong with him, ” doctor Benjamin said taking a step back from the murderous look in her eyes.
“If there's nothing wrong with him, then why won't he wake? Why did he bled from his eyes and eyes? I did this, this is my fault,” she said wretchedly tears streaming down her face.
“Yes I did this I killed Casvan. And it because of you, it's your fault. You were there you didn't stop her, fix him,” Reyna was growling she'd completely changed into her lycan form, her voice husky and growling, her eyes had glazed over with a red film.
She looked so frightening. Her Nana began to cry silently watching her little princess transform was breaking her heart. She'd always known that Reyna loves Casvan, she'd found out weeks ago but she never said anything and didn't know how deeply in love Reyna was in love with her beast until now.
“Fix him.”
“I don't know how,” doctor Benjamin said about to empty his bladder.
“Fucking fix him!”
Reyna growled flying at the doctor, who was scared shitless there was no question as to whether he would live if she got to him, fortunately for him Kayak intercepted her. She claw at him drawing blood and tried to take a chunk out of his neck with her fangs.
There's no doubt Kayak was strong but he was having difficulty controlling her. Seeing how she's gone completely feral because she thought there was no hope for his brother. Kayak realized he was wrong about her, he now knows that no one is hurting as much as Reyna.
His plan was to subdue her, he didn't want to have to hurt her to do that. But she'd done some serious damage to his arms and face, there's also a stabbed wound where she'd dug her claws deep.
She's gone completely crazy with grief. There's no doubt she blamed herself for Casvan condition and wanted to die. That's why she didn't care if he would attacked her or not. Kayak had to hardened his heart before she really ended him.
He punch her hard in stomach and flipped her on her back then he straddle her and held both of her hands while she trash wildly under him. Snarling and growling.
“Let her go!” A loud familiar voice growled, snapping his attention from her. His eyes clash with red familiar eyes. Thank fuck Kayak thought, a second before Reyna's claw rake down the side of his neck and down his chest. Kayak groaned and quickly lifted off of her. His hand over his bleeding neck. Reyna was crouching, getting ready to attack him again.
“Fucking control her,” Kayak growled to his brother who had miraculously woke up.
Casvan's heart broke when he saw his Kitten in that crazy state. She looked utterly rabid. Like she couldn't care if she lived or died. He got out of bed , his step steady, his body still felt weak but he wasn't hurting anymore.
“Kitten stopped,” he growled. Reyna's head tilted to him, her eyes met his but he could see that she really didn't believe it was him.
“Reyna, it's me Casvan,” he said, striding towards her. Reyna stared at him for a while before her red glazed eyes cleared up. She stared at him without moving until he stopped before her. She lifted a bloody shaking hand, claws and all and touched his face, slowly she realized that he really was alive and standing before her a sob burst out her, her legs gave out beneath her. Casvan gathered her into his arms and took her out of the hospital, Reyna was sobbing her heart out.
“It's okay, Kitten. I'm okay, see I'm alive and healthy. I'm not leaving you. Never, we'll live and die together,”
A week later.
“You're completely free of the poison now. You have nothing to worry about,as evidenced by his quick recovery it's clear that even if you still have the poison in your body it wouldn't harm him due to his immunity,” Alaric said to Reyna.
Casvan, who had been watching them while Reyna got tested again, lifted his brow at her to say I told you so. Reyna rolled her eyes, she doubted he cares if he's immune or not. He's only eager to have sex with her, which scares her shitless. If both Alaric and doctor Benjamin (who by the way is still scared of her) hadn't told her repeatedly she wouldn't have believed otherwise.
“Does this mean there could be a cure for the other roses?” she asked glancing at doctor Benjamin who tried real hard to look in her direction because Casvan had told him to do otherwise is to disrespect his queen.
They'd agreed to let him live, though Casvan had wanted to end him when he found out he was doctor Elizabeth's accomplice. Ironically it was Reyna who had convinced him that the man could be useful since he's a great doctor. And fortunately Alaric had backed her up.
“I'm sorry my prin…Queen but that's not possible. The poison that was used on you is very different from the one used on the other Roses.”
“How so?” Reyna asked.
“The poison used on you was an altered version, made specifically for your…Casvan. When doctor Elizabeth found out that you're seeing the beast…uh forgive me your majesty. I mean king Casvan she thought to use a different poison as it turned out he's immune and as doctor Alaric told me that there's a probability of that being because he's your fated mate.”
“These other roses were fed poisonous poisons while they were still children, there's also magic involved. I really don't know how it all works. I was only allowed in the know recently. But there's a lot of books and records I've saved before the castle back in Marlenia burned down.”
“Who the fuck came up with such a warped idea?” Reyna asked beyond disgusted.
“Actually your great grandmother Marlene and first council did. So many men were killed to the point of extinction, human women were brutally raped, and impregnated. At the time the only way they thought of to protect themselves is to create poisonous women who's sweat and saliva is enough to kill any male human or otherwise. It was trial and error for so many years. It wasn't successful during the Marlene era or the next three decades, until two decades ago when it was perfected” doctor Benjamin replied.
“So they kept up with it? Killing innocent lives.” Reyna was sad and angry for all those people who died while her family and the people in power conducted their disgusting experiments. Doctor Benjamin was wise to not say anything. Casvan pulled Reyna to straddle his legs while he tried to calm her down. He could feel how enraged she really was on behalf of those girls.
“What changed,” Casvan asked.
“The witches joined in the experiments and somehow the poison held without killing the carrier,a girl named Lisa was the first success.”
“Lisa? Lisa was my friend. We grew up together. She can't have been a poison rose unless it happened two years ago. Otherwise my mother wouldn't have ever let her play with me knowing Lisa is poisonous,” Reyna argued with him. It just didn't make sense. Doctor Benjamin nodded.
“True, unless there's a way to prevent the people from getting poison,” he said with a raised brow.
“Oh my God, the vaccine is administered to the people every four months. The vaccine Cassandra and the council had said was protection against the blue mist!”
“Yes, exactly. The girls themselves don't know that they are different from the other girls in Marlenia. They have no idea what is inside their bodies,so there's been a few people who become their victims, who they were kissing with. Fortunately none of the victims died in front of the Roses. So they have no knowledge of what they did until recently,” he elaborated.
Suddenly everything made so much sense. Poor Olivia didn't know that she was the cause of that man's death. Now that Reyna knows everything she recalls how the other girls used to watch her train with John and Sabrina.
They only used to train amongst themselves, since they couldn't poison each other. They'd all had to find out the hard way that they were weapons created to kill men and women alike. It saddened her that she couldn't help her.
But she promised herself that she's going to keep trying until she finds a way to help them. It's her way of paying the debt her family owes these women for snatching away their future.
"I'll want you to continue making the same vaccine for our people since we do have two of these roses here with us,” Reyna ordered. Kayak who Reyna is still making up to despite him saying he forgave her—had found and brought the two roses back.
To Reyna's shocked Casvan had given them a low sentence of six months and community work of two years after their release from the dungeon. Her Nana now lives in the castle with her.
She was surprisingly not afraid of Reyna, who was so heartbroken that her Nana had seen her in her lycan form and is now terrified of her. But was relieved when she saw that wasn't the case.
“Come Kitten, you owe me a debt,” Casvan growled, nipping her ear, then proceeded to whisper wicked things in her ears. Instantly Reyna feels her walls clenched with need becoming wet, her nipples tighten. She sprinted away from him and shouted.
“I owe no such debt.”
“You better run fast Kitten,” Casvan growled Chasing after her. Leaving both doctors with slack jaws.
