Chapter 35
“No, no, no. Cas? Please wake up, please you can't do this to me,” Reyna said hysterical as she hit his chest trying to wake/revive Casvan back to life. Terror was not enough word to describe what she was feeling in that moment. She didn't know or understand what just happened.
“Casvan please, you need to wake up,” She was frantic on the verge of hysteria. Her heart trip when she felt a slight raise of his chest. Hope surging.
“He's not dead. He's not dead. He can't be. Cas!”
Reyna was too shock to cry only shake Casvan body and call out his name as she tried to find that connection he'd established the first time he saw her. Reyna knew Casvan had use that connection to spy on her, she'd never bothered to ask him if she could also do that, now she wish she had.
She gulped in breath trying to calm herself, her whole body shook, her hands were unsteady. She inhale and try to find that thread that binds them forever, tears sprang to her eyes but she swallowed them back, it wasn't easy to deny herself what she really wants to do, the tears accumulate in her throat trying to choke her.
Reyna place her trembling hands on Casvan chest directly on his heart where that inner light glows, though not as bright as it was before. She close her eyes and mentally open her mind, letting everything she felt for Casvan flowed through her, filling and consuming her.
Her mind searching for that connection that tethered her to him which was now made stronger with her claiming bite, suddenly she saw it clear and colorful as a neon light, powerful and vibrant. She grabbed a hold of that thread with her mind and mentally scream Casvan's name.
“Come back to me Cas. You're mine. Come back to me.” Reyna was screaming for him to wake up with all the love and fear she's currently feeling.
Casvan blink his eyes open even as pain slice through him, he could barely see much. But he could feel so much, the love his Kitten has for him humble him. He'd never known something so pure and beautiful. He could feel her on a visceral level, their bond is almost complete, powerful, with his bite on her neck it will be.
“Reyna,” he called out to her.
“Cas, oh my God. You're awake. Thank you so much. Thank you so for coming back to me.” tears she'd deny herself were suddenly unleashed leaking from her eyes. Casvan sit up, his hand clutching Reyna's. His whole body screaming in agony but he held it in the recess of his mind not wanting Reyna to go through his pain after everything she'd recently went through.
“Let's go back to the Castle,” he said trying to stand up. Reyna knows he's in pain. With her help he was able to stand but then his legs gave out under him. Reyna scream as he fall deep inside the water, she didn't know how or where she got the strength. But she was determined to save him,her soul mate.
Her body and arms scream as she dragged him out of the water then somehow manage to dress him back into his trousers. She almost forgot to dress up herself. Now the only battle was to get him up the stone stairs they'd climb to get down here.
He take off Casvan shirt and wrapped it around his head. Then just like she did bringing him out of the water. She half carried half dragged him upstairs, not an easy thing to do with an almost seven feet tall man. Reyna knows if it wasn't for her lycan half she would never have even attempt to carry Casvan.
Luckily the horse was exactly where they'd left it grazing. It took a few tries to get the horse down so she can put Casvan on it back but she did it, she sat use Casvan shirt which she tore into strips and tired him to her back on the horse. He's weight almost send them both crashing down.
Reyna kick the horse into a fast trots, she wasn't sure if she could remember the way back. So she let's the horse lead. They road fast Casvan heavy on her back, but she held on, Dakkuth warriors follow her with curious glances.
They were almost at the castle when she saw Kayak. The minute he saw her,he knew something was terribly wrong. He quickly call some of the warriors outside the castle to helped them both down, they were taking Casvan to what Reyna knows was Alaric territory, the clinic she'd visited when she was really sick when Kayak asked her the question she's been dreading.
“What the fuck happened to him?” Kayak thunder glaring at her.
“I don't know. I really don't know. I guess it could be me. I bite him,” she said. Tears blinding her from seeing her front. They'd already arrived at the clinic which is more a large hospital, the warriors carrying Casvan quickly lay him down on the bed.
“Tell me what happened?” Alaric said checking Casvan over. So Reyna did. Any other time she would have feel weird telling people what they did but right then she didn't care.
“I will conduct some tests and find out what's wrong with him,” Alaric said extracting a blood sample from Casvan who is still unconscious.
“You poisoned him. He's bleeding from his eyes and ears just like Vok and Drik,” Kayak yelled glaring at her. Reyna face completely paled with shocked she'd suspected that Casvan could have been poison but that the poison came from her. That was unimaginable. She thought it's because she bit him.
“I didn't. I would never,”she denied but the evidence was right in front of her.
“How?” she muttered completely lost.
“It's the same poison the other women used on Vok and Drik, tell me what's the cure? Why did you do it? I swear if anything happened to my brother I will kill you,” he said cornering her. And from the the look in his eyes he meant every word.
“I would never poison Casvan, he's my mate. And I wish I know what the cure is Kayak,” Reyna said breaking down with loud sob. If Casvan dies Reyna knows she'll die with him. There will be no living without him. Life would be meaningless.
"Take her away.” He said his face hard.
Reyna cries had turn her voice hoarse, she feels like she's dying inside. Knowing Casvan is in a critical condition because of her was hell, she didn't want to believe it at first but what else would affect her strong mate like these, it had to be her. This is her mate, her soul mate and she'd cause him harm, she didn't blame Kayak for locking her away, what hurt is that she doesn't know what is going on with Casvan if he was better or not if he was alive or….
Just then she heard footsteps in the hallway a few seconds later the door to her room swung open revealing two huge warriors and her Nana. Who they let into the room then went to close the door.
“Nana!” Reyna said, rushing to the woman.
“Thank God you're alive.” Reyna was crushing the older heavy set woman with a hug. Glad that she hadn't lost her.
“Wait, how's Casvan?” she asked stopping the warrior from closing the door. One of the warriors was glaring at her while the other looked at her with pity.
“Please I'm begging you,” Reyna said, staring at him with her heart on her face.
“He's not dead.” that was all he said. But it was enough for Reyna as long as he's alive then she would do everything to find a cure for him even if she had to risk her life. But she has to convince Kayak that although she believes as he did she really hadn't meant for any of this to happen.
“Oh, thank you, thank you so much,” Reyna said tears leaking out of her eyes. If Casvan isn't dead surely there's some way to cure him.
“My princess,” her Nana's voice reminded her that the woman was really here and alive. She hug the her Nana again letting out a cry.
“Oh, Nana I miss you so much. I thought I'd lost you that you were dead.”
“I thought you were too, Rey. I'd thought doctor Elizabeth had killed you. Doctor Benjamin had told me everything that happened to you, poor baby. I'm glad you are alive and well,” her Nana said, both of them were hugging each other and crying for a while before Reyna find the strength to pull back, wiping away her tears.
“And Cassandra, is my mother okay?” she ask hopeful even though a part of her already knew the truth. Her Nana shook her head crying.
“I'm sorry Reyna but doctor Elizabeth had already killed Cassandra way before Marlenia was attacked.”
Reyna couldn't stopped the tears that blinded her as she remember the woman who gave birth to her when others would have aborted her. No matter what Cassandra did to her Reyna believe with all her heart that her mother really loved her despite everything and she love her too.
Doctor Elizabeth that mad woman had wanted power and had gotten rid of the only person standing in her way, then she'd attacked Reyna and tried to make her believe that her mother hated her. That she has consented to what the doctor had put her through.
In the end karma had gotten to her and she deserve what she got. Something click in Reyna's brain right then stopping her from her grief crying.
“Nana something terrible happened, I need you to tell me. Did you know anything about the poison roses? Is the rumor about them poisoning people true?” Reyna asked the poor woman who suddenly looked shocked.
“Why would you asked such an absurd question? Of course it isn't true,” her Nana denied.
“Please Nana, you've got to tell me the truth. I made love with Casvan, you know the beast that was locked up back Marlenia. He's the king here Nana and I think I might have poison him. I don't know if doctor Benjamin told you but I'm not really a complete human,I'm half lycan. Doctor Elizabeth told me that Cassandra was raped and that's how she got me,” Reyna said, her heart twisting as wait for her only remaining family to reject.
“Oh Reyna, I've always known who you are. It doesn't matter who your father is, you're always my little princess,” Nana said hugging Reyna. Who sniffing her heart lighter.
“Can you tell me what you know Nana, please,” Reyna pleaded.
“I do know a little bit about it, but doctor Benjamin would know much about it than me,” her Nana replied.
“Doctor Benjamin is alive? Where is he, we must go to him right away maybe he knows how to save Casvan,” Reyna said already heading to the door.
“He's here, we were captured together.” Reyna ran toward her Nana and shook the woman so hard.
“He's really here Nana? Here in Dakhur?”
“I'm absolutely sure of it, I shared a car with him, he's been taken to a different building though.”
Reyna body was trembling with anticipation, her heart much lighter with hope. She was banging the door so hard and screaming the guards quickly opened to quiet her down.
“There's a way to save your king take me to Kayak and call Alaric fast you need to hurry,” she was shouting orders at the shocked warriors. But seeing how serious she was, one of the warriors nodded to his subordinate and turn saying.
“Follow me.” He was walking so fast with his long legs, Reyna had to run to catch up with him.
Smart guy, Reyna already like the beast, he's more adapted at reading people than the other one. She and her Nana follow the man to the courtroom where Kayak was shouting at Alaric to find a way to save Casvan. Reyna was glad that they are all here.
“Kayak, Alaric there's a way to find out what is wrong with Casvan and also find a cure,” she said hurrying to where they stood.
“I already know what is wrong with him. You poison him.” He said, his voice accusative.
“I did and I don't know how, Casvan is my mate. I will kill myself before I ever knowingly harm him,” Kayak stared at her and he could see the pain and sincerity in her grey eyes.
“How can we save my brother?” he asked with a somber look. Reyna nodded at him grateful that he'd chose to trust her.
“There's a doctor among the people who just arrived. He's one of the doctors who had poison me. We need to talk to him and find out if there's a cure.”
