Chapter 44

-Terui’s POV-

Everything was hazy to me. I lost communication with my wolf and the world appears to be red. Human faces would be blurred out and my instinct seems to push past all sense of reasoning in my mind. Something deep in my soul knows exactly what I was doing.

-Flashback (to a few moments ago)-

“Then do you want to make a contract with me? I can give you strength, and power. I can give you what you need.” A dark voice resounded in my headspace.

“Who’s that?” I asked coarsely. My wolf was instantly on high alert. He let out a dangerous growl as if warning me.

“Oh, you don’t need to know who I am. All you need to know is that I can give you what you want. What do you say?” He chuckled.

“A devil,” I concluded.

“Well, I suppose you can call me that. But does it matter? Join me, I will give you strength!”

“What do you need?”

“Just repeat after me.” Well, there is nothing to lose.

“I, Terui Knight, the immortal Elder, grant this soul and this body...”

“I, Terui Knight, the immortal Elder, grant my soul and my body, to punish those who wronged me. To destroy those who took what was mine! TO MAKE THEM PAY!”

“Excellent! Excellent!”

My wolf whined as power surged through me. Desperate howls to pull me back into reality but I was no longer listening. Drunk on power, I knew That there was no one who could stop me. I’m an immortal, with the devil’s power in my hands, there will be no way I can ever lose.

“I, son of Belial, accept that contract.”

-End of flashback-

I was instantly plunged back into reality. My head throbbed and I was thrown into darkness. Like a movie theater, I could see the outside world on a screen. Chains gripped me and tied me down. I was no longer in control of myself. My own sanity was held back as my instinct was let free. My wolf, corrupted by the power, ran through the forest, fueled by my desire for blood and… his mate?

He ran through the forest. A wall of thorns stopped him in his path. He growled lowly and clawed at the vines. The vines snapped under the pressure and sharpness but immediately started repairing themselves. My wolf’s head perked up, it quickly withdrew and jumped backward, just as an icicle shard pierced through the ground from the sky. The devil roared with laughter in the background, pleased with such an outcome.

The taint on my wolf’s mind continues to spread further. The demon’s corruption was slowly taking over any form of sanity in my wolf’s mind. A sharp pain tore through the very soul of my existence. My wolf wasn’t being corrupted. He was being consumed.

“Oh, it’s too late for you to know that now.”

I struggle helplessly against the mental chains that hold me firmly in a mental block.

“What do you want, you demon!”

“Hahahaha. What do I want? YOU! Shouldn’t you know better than that, immortal?”

“...”

“I didn’t think it’ll be this easy though, take a look.” Reluctantly, I glanced at the outside world. My wolf was getting torn apart. Every time it happens, the pain would shoot through my soul, and he will recover from the pain. He won’t die. But every time he comes back to life, the corruption spreads further. “It’s only a matter of minutes before you’re fully mine.”

Claws, fangs, ice. They relentlessly injured my body while I helplessly gazed at the outside world, in pain. My wolf endured it all and continued stalking forward, with a purpose. With each stride, he took, the further the corruption spread.

A strong pressure knocked my body off its feet. I gasped from the recoil channeled through my wolf.

And I saw him.

I finally understood.

My wolf never wanted a new mate. He didn’t care if his mate had been abused. He wanted to care for him. He wanted to love him. He wanted to feel every inch of his body.

He just wanted his mate back.

“Ah, I see, that boy. I suppose I will need to kill him first, as per your wish.”

I was the one who ruined it.

All this time, I was the one who tormented them.

I was the idiot, the weak one, who couldn’t see.

“Stop this, please. Just take my soul, don’t involve my wolf into this.”

“Ah ah ah. No can do. You already agreed to the contract.”

“Stop! Stop! Please!” I begged my wolf. I yanked desperately at the chains but I couldn’t get out. There was no way I could take back the things I did. Before I knew it, my time was up. My corrupted wolf was starting to fade from existence, getting absorbed into the demon. And soon, I will be too.

“He can’t hear…ugh.” The demon suddenly doubled over. I hissed in pain as I felt a claw breaking the skin of my body. The demon’s form became hazy as he struggled to stay upright. Black liquid oozed out from the same spot as my own injury. “Impossible! No! I should be immortal with your power! Why!”

“You!” He screamed. I looked and saw my wolf fighting against Alex. For some reason, every injury inflicted by him was causing the demon and I to take damage. The demon fought viciously in my body, but Alex was calmly deflecting all the attacks, countering with his own.

The demon started to panic. Cuts and tears were not healing as they should. This particular man was his nemesis. He glanced at Nathan and shifted his feet.

“No!” I screamed as he pounced at Nathan. Alex reacted a second too late. Caught by surprise, Nathan dropped his weapon. I closed my eyes. Am I going to make another mistake? Am I going to cause the death of the werewolves? All because I couldn’t see past my mate’s history?

That was when an angry howl ripped through our minds. The demon clutched his head in pain. In his dying breath, my wolf let out a powerful cry in our headspace. The howl echoed violently. We could only grit our teeth, and wait for the pain to subside.

That few second was enough.

A claw ripped through our chest. The demon shrieked, his body disappearing into the smoke. The chains that bound me to my mind dissolved as well, giving me full control of my own body. But it wouldn’t last long. Shakily, I looked at Nathan.

“Sorry.”

My world faded into darkness.
