Chapter
85 We Help You
"This is your dad."
Sophia smiled and called out loudly, "Dad!"
Logan Morgan lovingly patted her head and smiled, "Don't worry, I'm here. If you ever feel wronged in the future, just let me know, I'll back you up!" His words were clearly a warning to Carol and Nathan.
"Alright, let's all sit down and rest for a bit," Carol invited Logan Morgan and Grace into the living room, signaling to Nathan with her eyes. Nathan had no choice but to reluctantly greet them, "Hello."
Logan Morgan glanced at him, "You're Nathan?"
"Yes," Nathan nodded.
Grace nudged Logan Morgan, gesturing for him to lighten up. "So, you're Nathan. Sophia often talks about you. She really admires you." Nathan chuckled but said nothing.
Sophia admires him? Nathan sneered inwardly. She probably admires the Reed family's wealth.
Although Logan Morgan was a famous designer, they were still considered new money, quite distinct from the old money status of the Reed family.
Reed hired Logan Morgan to join the company. Nathan is the CEO, and he is Logan Morgan's superior.
"Mom," Sophia walked over and held Grace's hand. "I need to talk to you."
Grace chuckled softly, "It's been a while since we last met. Let's go upstairs and have a private chat."
Sophia nodded, suddenly remembering something, "Who's making lunch?"
Nathan rarely ate at home. When it was just Carol and Sophia at home, they usually ordered takeout. Today, with Logan Morgan and Grace here, they couldn't possibly order takeout again.
Carol felt a bit embarrassed at the question, "Um... I'm not very good at cooking, but I've bought all the ingredients and put them in the fridge. Grace, I've heard from Sophia that you're quite good at cooking. Why don't you show off your skills today?" Grace smirked, "Are you suggesting that guests should cook for the hosts?"
"No, no, we're all family here, there's no distinction between guests and hosts..."
"Well, since there's no distinction between guests and hosts, then you can cook, Grace coldly smiled. "I have a housekeeper at home, and haven't cooked in ages. Sophia, let's
go. Show me your be
Sophia had never seen Carol so humiliated. Happily, she took Grace's hand and went upstairs, closing the door behind them.
"Mom! You're finally here! You have no idea how much that old witch annoys me! She's Nathan's mother, and she bullies me every day. It's driving me crazy!"
Grace glanced around the bedroom, then turned to Sophia, "Hasn't Nathan slept here in a long time?"
Sophia replied, "Yes... How did you know?"
"Never mind how I know. Tell me, is your baby really Nathan's?"
Sophia was startled and quickly ran to lock the bedroom door, afraid of being overheard.
She lowered her voice and reminded Grace, "Mom, keep your voice down. What if Nathan hears us?"
Grace sat down on the bed, straightened her skirt, and looked serious, "Then tell me the truth. It's better for me to know, so I can help you plan what to do next."
Sophia sighed, looking very troubled, "Mom, I'll tell you the truth. I don't know if this baby is his. During that time, I slept with both Nathan and another man."
Grace got angry as soon as she heard this, "What should I even say to you? If you planned to marry into the Reed family from the start, why did you sleep with another man?"
"I did it to get pregnant! Emily had
been married to Nathan for four years and still hadn't gotten pregnant. There was nothing wrong with her, so I suspected Nathan had a problem! I was afraid I wouldn't get pregnant, so I slept with another man for a few days, and I did get pregnant! Mom, this is what you taught me. Always have a backup plan. Isn't this also a way to get rid of Emily?"
Grace rolled her eyes. "Nathan isn't stupid! What if thisbaby doesn't look like him? Do you think you can deceive him for a lifetime?"
"Let's worry about that later.
Anyway, Nathan and Carol have both accepted that this child is the heir. You didn't see how Carol threw Emily out of the house that day She threw all her belongings onto the street! I'm thrilled."
Grace gave her a stern look but ultimately didn't say anything more.
She had always been worried about her daughter. She didn't want Sophia to marry a poor man. So, after considering all the wealthy men in New York, she set her sights on Nathan, Emily's husband. Nathan's marriage to Emily was originally due to the wishes of Nathan's grandfather. They had no emotional foundation. With a little maneuvering, Emily would be discarded.
"Oh, by the way, did you give the doctor the money?"
Sophia replied, "I did as you said. I gave the doctor $100,000."
"That's good," Grace sighed in relief. "This doctor is my classmate. He's just after money. Once your child is born, he'll help us with the paternity test."
