Chapter 56
Chapter 56 Impulsive Uncle
"I will," Emily smirked. "But right now, my priority is taking care of my father. Uncle, have you considered finding a wife to take care of you?"
This was the first time Emily had brought up Bert's marital status, and he blushed awkwardly. "I don't need someone to take care of me. I can take care of myself. Getting married costs too much money, and I don't have the energy to think about it. Oh, by the way, did Nathan pay for your father's surgeries? How much was it in total? I need to earn money quickly to pay him back. I don't want to owe him."
"I didn't use his money."
Bert became agitated again. "Why not? He was your husband, he had an obligation to take care of your father."
She could only say, "Not everyone has a conscience."
Bert fumed. "I knew it, these rich people are all bloodsucking capitalists! Emotions mean nothing to them! Sophia must have been deceived by him. I have to go and talk to Sophia, make her leave Nathan!" Emily quickly grabbed him. "Don't go, maybe Sophia intentionally got close to Nathan?"
"I'm her family! I can't watch her be deceived by a man!" Bert shook off Emily's hand and walked out.
Emily followed him, running after him. "But Sophia's mother agreed to this. She's Sophia's mother; she should understand Sophia's intentions best."
"Don't mention her mother to me! She's a typical gold digger! She cheated on her husband for money!"
As he finished speaking, Bert had reached the hospital's entrance, found a taxi, and got in. "Emily, don't worry, I'll control my temper. I'm just going to reason with Sophia. I'll be back soon." The taxi quickly drove away, and Emily couldn't stop him.
How could she trust Bert's temper?
If he found out that Sophia was pregnant with Nathan's child, he might impulsively shoot Nathan! That would only make things worse.
Emily was so anxious she stamped her foot.
There was no choice; she gritted her teeth and made a call.
"Emily?" Mr. Satan's voice came through the receiver. "I thought you wouldn't call me again..."
Emily couldn't care less about their unpleasantness from earlier; she was urgent. "Mr. Satan, could you help arrange some caregivers for my father? Right now, as soon as possible."
Mr. Satan quickly agreed, "Okay, I'll arrange it immediately. Don't worry, tell me what's going on."
"My... my uncle found out about Nathan and Sophia's wedding and rushed to the Reed family's house. I'm afraid he'll do something reckless. I have to go after him and make sure nothing happens!" Mr. Satan pondered for a moment and said calmly, "Are you at the hospital entrance now?"
"Yes, I am."
"Listen to me, I'll rush over too, but it'll take some time. Take a taxi and follow your uncle. I'll arrive at the Reed family's house as soon as possible."
Emily was so desperate, she agreed to anything he said.
After hanging up the phone, she hailed a taxi.
Upon arriving at her destination, the gate of the Reed family's villa was wide open, unlocked.
She pushed the door open and only saw Carol sitting on the sofa watching TV.
"Oh my goodness, you scared me," Carol exclaimed, covering her heart in shock. When she saw Emily's face, she became sharp and aggressive. "Why is it you again? You're such a woman from the slums. Don't you know to knock first and wait for the owner's permission before entering?"
Ignoring her, Emily scanned the entire living room with her eyes, seeing only Carol there, and there were no sounds coming from upstairs. Bert probably hadn't arrived yet.
She turned around and left, hoping to intercept him before he barged in.
Carol called out to her from behind, "What do you mean by turning around and leaving? I can call the police and have you arrested for trespassing, do you know that? Do you think our house is a park, where you can come and go as you please?"
"Mom, who are you talking to?" Nathan came downstairs from the upstairs bedroom, still half asleep.
He had been drinking outside until
dawn for the past few days. This woman, Emily, really made him feel suffocated, but he didn't want to come home to face Sophia's face. Fortunately, he would come back after drinking with his buddies outside until he was satisfied.
He had only slept for a few hours, and now he heard his mother's shrill voice.
Carol angrily threw the pillow on the sofa aside. "Nathan, what kind of taste do you have? You can't find a reliable woman. Are you only satisfied if you drive me to death?" "You're talking about Sophia? She's still upstairs. I've already talked to her and told her not to upset you."
Carol gave him a disdainful look. "Your ex-wife is fierce. She just barged in directly a moment ago, scared me into having a hypertension attack... Hey, where are you going?" Before she could finish her sentence, Nathan had already chased after Emily.
