Chapter 30
Chapter 30 Working For Me
When Mr. Satan returned home in the evening, Emily brought up the matter.
"Named Morgan, doing business in Europe?" Emily asked as she helped him towel off his hair.
"Yeah, that's what my dad said," Mr. Satan replied, closing his eyes and enjoying her care. "Emily, do you really want to find him?"
"I'm not sure," Emily said, feeling conflicted. "He abandoned me and my mom. If I were to find him, I feel like I'd be betraying my mom."
Mr. Satan understood her well. "Emily, let me be honest with you. If you want to find him, I can help, no problem. But do you know how many Morgans there are in Europe? Your chances of finding him are slim. Plus, have you thought about why he left without telling your mom? Was he afraid she wouldn't wait for him to come back?"
Emily shook her head firmly. "No, she would have. I heard my mom used to love him a lot."
"That's what's so strange," Mr. Satan said, taking her hand. "He clearly knew your mother was pregnant, and he knew she would wait for him. So why did he leave without a word and cut off all contact with your mother? There's only one explanation: he had a reason he had to abandon you both."
"What could that reason be?" Emily asked.
Mr. Satan chuckled. "Is Nathan divorcing you really because you can't conceive?"
No, that's not it.
It's because Nathan is already having an affair with Sophia.
Her infertility is just a fake, and Sophia bribed a doctor to forge her infertility certificate. It's all a conspiracy! Ultimately, it's because Nathan has fallen for someone else!
"You understand, Emily," Mr. Satan said, "If a man abandons his woman without any other reason, it's because he's fallen for someone else."
Emily bit her lip, not saying anything.
She had thought about this possibility, but when Mr. Satan laid it out, it felt like the most unbearable truth, leaving her with a sense of oppression and resentment.
"Oh, by the way, let's think deeper," Mr. Satan said, holding her in his lap and brushing her cheek with his stubble. "He was poor back then. How could he afford to go to Europe? Is it possible that there's another reason related to him abandoning your mom?" Emily suddenly looked up.
Mr. Satan didn't say it outright, but she understood completely.
A poor man, accepting the support of a rich girl, abandoning his pregnant wife, and leaving home with the rich girl.
It was such a clichéd plot.
"So, Emily, do you still want to find him now?"
Emily felt a bit confused. "Can I have some time to think?"
"Of course," Mr. Satan said, finding her lips and kissing her gently. "Take your time. Whatever you decide, I'll help you."
Emily was somewhat captivated by his kisses, breathing softly with her eyes half-closed. "What if I ask you to marry me?"
The kisses paused for a moment, and the skin touched by his lips began to cool slightly.
Emily's heart gradually cooled down too.
She wanted to slap herself. How could she blurt out such a foolish question?
"Emily."
"I'm sorry," Emily hung her head like a child who had done something wrong. "I was greedy and confused about my identity. I won't do it again."
A torrent of fervent kisses rained down on her lips and neck.
Mr. Satan suddenly pinned her down on the bed, his heavy breaths echoing in her ear, proclaiming his desire.
"Emily, I never thought you would ask me to marry you."
"I was just..." Emily faltered. "I take back what I said, okay?"
"Words spoken can't be taken back," Mr. Satan said. "Emily, just wait a little longer, give me some time to handle everything, and then we'll get married." Emily's eyes widened in astonishment.
Did she hear correctly?
Mr. Satan was planning to marry her?
But...
"I just asked casually..."
"But I took it seriously, Emily. I'm really happy. You probably won't understand how long I've waited for these words."
Emily's hand rested on his chest, where his heart was pounding rapidly and happily, indicating his excitement.
"But... don't you still love the girl from before..." Emily asked, puzzled.
Mr. Satan chuckled softly. "When I've sorted everything out and taken off the mask, you'll understand. She's actually..." Ring ring-
His words were interrupted by a hurried phone call.
It was Emily's phone.
She hastily freed herself from Mr. Satan's embrace and rushed to the balcony to answer the call.
It was an unknown number.
"Hello? Who is this?"
"Heh!"
It was a man's light snort, but she couldn't tell who it was.
She asked again, "May I ask who is calling?"
"Tsk, Emily," the man on the other end finally spoke impatiently, "It's only been a few days, and you can't even recognize your boss's voice?"
Boss?
It was Jackson!
"Boss, oh, it's you. What's up?"
Emily remembered the next car show was this weekend, still four days away.
Why would Jackson be calling her makeup artist?
Jackson's voice carried a hint of teasing. "What, am I interrupting you and your boyfriend?"
"I don't have a boyfriend."
She only had an ex-husband.
"Really?" There was a barely perceptible trace of hope in Jackson's voice.
"...Um, can employees in your company not date?"
Jackson chuckled lightly, obviously quite pleased. "Of course they can. I'm just worried you're too focused on romance and neglecting your work."
"No, Boss, don't worry. I'll prepare well for the car show in four days. I'll do my best to satisfy you."
"That's good."
Emily still found it strange. "Boss, did you call this late just to ask if I have a boyfriend?"
"Ahem," Jackson cleared his throat. "Tomorrow, I have a banquet to attend. Will you be my makeup artist?"
"Tomorrow? Um, I might not be able to make it..." Emily hesitated. She had promised to bring food to her dad tomorrow.
Jackson hit her where it hurt. "One day, one hundred thousand. Will you come?"
