Chapter 29
Chapter 29 Her Father
Now Emily really regretted asking that stupid question.
Tonight, Mr. Satan was wild in bed. How could he seem like a gay who's not interested in women?
The next day at noon, when Emily was cooking for her dad, she felt sore all over as if she'd been run over by a car.
Emily felt like her previous thoughts were too narrow. How could a powerful man like Mr. Satan lack women by his side? He was even faithful, still yearning for that one girl till now, unlike Nathan, cheating within marriage. The difference between them was too stark. And she was enjoying Mr. Satan's money; no matter how you looked at it, it seemed like she was taking advantage.
Busy with makeup work for the car show these past few days, Emily hadn't visited her dad for two days.
When she arrived at the hospital, it was lunchtime.
None of the other patients in the same room were around, only her dad standing by the window gazing outside.
"Dad," Emily called out, "What are you so lost in thought about?"
William turned to see Emily, his smile instantly softened, "You don't have to bring me food every day; I can go to the nearby restaurant myself."
"The restaurant food isn't as delicious as what I make. Today, I made your favorite sandwiches."
William smiled and picked up the sandwich, starting to eat.
"Dad, take your time eating. If you like, I'll make you sandwiches with different flavors tomorrow."
Upon hearing this, William sighed softly.
Emily poured him a cup of hot water. "What's wrong, Dad?"
William's brow furrowed slightly with worry. "Emily, be honest with me. Are you and Nathan separated?"
"I..." Emily's smile froze on her face. "Why do you ask that, Dad? Did you hear some rumors?"
William set the lunchbox aside gently and patted Emily's head affectionately. "Emily, I'm not blind. I could sense something from what Nathan and Sophia said that day. Emily, Dad just wants to remind you, if Sophia has any other thoughts, don't just endure it blindly. Your husband belongs to you alone; that's the bottom line." Emily's heart sank.
So Dad had figured it out.
Well, Sophia and Nathan's intimacy that day was too obvious; it wasn't surprising Dad noticed.
Fortunately, Dad only suspected; he didn't know she'd already signed the divorce agreement long ago.
Emily forced a smile, her tone gentle, "Dad, don't worry about me. I'll handle my own affairs."
"You can handle them, but I'm worried your way is to endure," William tightened his grip on her hand. Because he'd been doing heavy physical work for years, Dad's hand was very rough, and there was a roughness when covering her hand, a callus left from years of labor. "I know how you think. Your mother passed away early, and I just hope you'll be well."
Emily's eyes reddened, and she held William's hand back firmly, nodding vigorously. "Dad, I'll be fine. I have a friend named Olivia, do you remember her? She introduced me to a job as a makeup artist, and I can earn ten thousand dollars a day!" "Really?" William couldn't contain his joy upon hearing this. "You better work hard."
"Yeah, I will."
William was still a bit worried, "You've found a new job; does Nathan have any objections? I remember the Reed family doesn't like you working outside."
"He..." Emily hesitated for a moment but quickly regained her confidence. "He doesn't mind."
Nathan probably wouldn't even know she'd found a job now that he had a new woman. If he doesn't know, he naturally won't object.
William felt relieved now. "Emily, don't tire yourself out. Take care of yourself."
"I know, Dad. I'll take care of my health."
After a moment, Emily hesitated and asked a question that hadn't been brought up for a long time. "Dad, do you know who my biological father is?"
In fact, William isn't Emily's biological father. When William married Emily's mom, she was already pregnant. But William always treated Emily as his own daughter, so Emily rarely asked about her biological father.
William didn't know much either, just had a vague impression. "I only know his last name is Morgan. He was quite poor when he met your mom. A lot happened between them. But after your mom got pregnant, he suddenly disappeared. Some say he went to Europe for business."
As William reminisced about events from over twenty years ago, he felt a bit melancholic. "Although he was a poor lad, he was different from ordinary folks. I thought he had a bright future ahead of him, but he vanished."
