Chapter 107
Chapter 107 The Mother-daughter Plan
Grace's words caught Sophia off guard.
She knew Emily had a new man and was pregnant.
Last time she needed a blood transfusion, Emily was supposed to donate blood, but then she was found to be pregnant, so she didn't donate.
But...
"No, Mom," Sophia shook her head. "Her new man is a faceless fugitive. Carol told me, he's definitely not someone from high society."
Grace was a bit surprised to hear this. "He doesn't show his face?"
"Yeah," Sophia said. "He rarely appears. Carol and Nathan have seen him once. He wears a white mask and never reveals his face. If he were wealthy, Emily would want to show him off!" Grace pondered for a moment. Sophia was right.
If this man held power and influence, Emily would surely flaunt him, rather than constantly helping him conceal his identity.
"There are two possibilities," Grace said.
"Which two?" Sophia asked anxiously.
"First, this person's identity is unsightly. He could be a fugitive, or there could be another reason. If he were to show his face, it would invite endless trouble, so he must cover it up; second, he doesn't want Emily to know his identity." Though not the brightest, Sophia could understand this reasoning.
A fugitive wanting to remain hidden long-term was unlikely. So, the most likely scenario was the second one.
Sophia felt relieved. "So, this man probably just used Emily to have a child. Once the child is born, he'll kick her out. Emily probably doesn't even know who she's having a child for!"
"It's not out of the realm of possibility," Grace said with lingering concern. "Sophia, I don't know why, but I have a feeling this man will disrupt our plans in the future."
Sophia dismissed it. "Mom, don't worry too much. Emily will probably be dumped soon."
"No, it's just a feeling I have. I think this man is dangerous and could be a stumbling block for us."
Grace's words made Sophia a bit uneasy.
Sophia trusted and admired her mother. Her successful eviction of Emily and pregnancy with Nathan's child were all part of Grace's plan. Therefore, Sophia believed Grace's words without question. "Mom, should we investigate this man?"
"You stay out of this. I'll look into him. You're about to become Mrs. Reed. You can't get involved in this Remember, you kicked Emily out of the Reed family, but there are many women waiting to kick you out of the Reed family, so you must be cautious and not make any mistakes."
Sophia could only nod. "I understand, Mom. I'll be careful."
"Also, about this child in your belly. You must say this child is Nathan's. Even if he suspects you, you must insist you're innocent, understand?"
"I understand... but Mom, what if he wants a paternity test after the child is born?"
Grace remained composed. "Nothing will happen. Regardless of whose child it is, Nathan will believe it's his. I'll bribe the hospital doctor. They'll help me with a fake report."
Sophia finally felt relieved and let out a long sigh. "Mom, I'm so glad you're back. Otherwise, I really wouldn't know what to do."
"I only have you as my child. I will definitely help you."
"You still have Herry!"
Grace's smile was somewhat strained. "Herry? He's a boy. He'll understand that his father brings wealth. My value isn't significant to him."
Sophia didn't notice any slight change in Grace's expression; she only felt that Grace favored her more than Herry. She had an impulse to cry again. "Mom, I'll always be good to you."
Grace smiled. "Good. By the way, you just saw Emily, but what about Herry? Wasn't she supposed to be with him?"
Sophia had forgotten about Herry. After Grace's reminder, she remembered. "Oh right, Emily said Herry also went into the haunted house."
Grace's brows furrowed instantly. "The haunted house?"
"Yeah, it seems Herry insisted on going, and Emily had no choice but to go in with him. Then Herry got scared by the ghosts and ran away, and they got separated. Mom, Herry is my little brother. Should I go back in and find him?"
Grace waved her hand, not
concerned. "No need, you rest. If
Emily lost Herry, your stepfather will deal with her. We'll just watch from the sidelines. And remember, in front of Logan Morgan, you must show
vn
great affection for Herry, understand?"
Sophia didn't understand the meaning behind Grace's words. Even though she hadn't met Herry, before, they shared the same
mother, so she would naturally care for him. She didn't know why Grace said it that way, but she subconsciously nodded.
"Mom, should we find another place to rest or go back to Dad's?"
"We'll go back later. If we go back too soon, he'll blame us for not taking care of Herry. We'll go back a little later and tell him we looked for Herry but couldn't find him. Logan won't blame us; all his anger will be directed at Emily." Sophia was impressed by her mother's foresight. "Mom, you think of everything!"
Grace smiled. "If I didn't plan comprehensively, I wouldn't have gotten to where I am now."
"Don't worry, Mom. I will definitely become Mrs. Reed. Our plan will succeed."
