One of a Kind Dragon

Chapter 10 |Donovan|

“First daughter?” Willow asked

“Yes dear...your older sister” Hope answered

“Where is she now? What was her name?” Willow questioned

“Lana... s-she’s among the stars with your father.”

“What was she like, Mom? I want to know who Lana was.” Willow demanded.

“She was amazing, you would have loved her Willow, she was the most beautiful dragon on Dracone,” Hope answered. “Like you, she was Rollan and I’s offspring, but she was different from you. At first glance many would think she was normal, but once you got to know her she was entirely different from the rest of the tribes. Her personality was extraordinary, she was amazingly smart, she had a heart of gold, she was unquestionably... unique. She had the personality of every dragon. She was the kindest dragon on Dracone. She... died trying to save a baby dragonet who was stuck in a pile of wood,” Hope choked out, trying not to cry. “No one else would get the dragonet, even the mother didn’t care if her daughter died. Lana wouldn’t stand for such terrible injustice so she dived under the wood, she was small enough to fit in the little area but when the dragonet was unstuck, the wood and brick collapsed on top of her. The brick and wood had broken Lana’s neck when it collapsed, she thankfully fell sideways so her wing covered the dragonet, when we got wood and bricks out of the way we were worried that the dragonet was dead, but when we lifted Lana’s wing the dragonet was fast asleep.

No one cared that Lana, the only heir to the throne, was dead. The only people that went to the funeral were me and Rollan... no one else showed up, they all hated her for being different, she was something that the tribe was not ready for. But she had one of the biggest and most valuable hearts of gold the world had ever seen.” Hope shuddered

“That’s terrible... someone so kind to be treated like something so worthless” Willow answered, her eyes turning a deep blue. She started to wrap her wings around her mother, but her mothers eyes filled with horror.

“Mom? Are you alright?” Willow asked. The air turned cool against her scales, as fog rose up covering the courtyard. Her mother’s eyes turned a foggy white and she spoke in a deep hollowed out voice

"Willow, Willow, Willow, how could you, you filthy little animal. I am coming for your flesh and blood little Willow, I’m coming and you will be dead in three years time" Her mother collapsed against Willow. Willow stepped away from Hope. The voice continued to reverberate inside her head. She remembered that voice. That voice was her only comfort.

"Hello Willow"

“Who are you? How do you know my name?” She asked

"Why, I am the one who saved you! Do you not remember?”

“No. What’s your name?”

"Donovan."

“Donovan?”

"Yes child, Donovan."

“Where are you?”

"I...Don’t know..."

“How do you not know?”

"I’m...In the dark...I think"

“Is that all you can see?”

"Yes child. That is all I can see"

“Why are you in my head?”

"To control you..."

“What?”

"To help you child."

“But I don’t need help?”

"Not yet child not yet"

“Is that the only reason why your here?”

"Yes child"

“Oh okay”

Days passed, Willow sat at the cave opening waiting for Lunar’s to return

“Donovan?”

"Yes child?”

“Is Lunar coming back?”

"No child, not for a long time"

“Oh...”

Years passed as Willow continued to talk to Donovan until one day

“Darius? Where’s my earring?”

“The one Lunar gave you?” He replied

“Yeah, Do you know where I put it last?

“No sorry”

It was him

“Did you say something Darius?”

“No...?”

Kill him

“Donovan? Is that you?”

"Yes”

KILL HIM

“I don’t want to! I can’t do that!”

"You don’t have a choice"

Willow began to move forward no matter how hard she tried to stop herself

“Willow? You okay?” Darius asked turning around

Willow lunged forward claws outstretched and slashed at him

“No! Stop!”

"Never"

Darius dazed and confused turned his back to her as she lunged again

“NO! STOP!” Willow ripped through her mind slamming Donovan out it

She stood panting Darius under her blood pouring from his wound. Willow carried him away as a voice rang through her head

"You will never escape my wrath little Willow"

“Not if I get to you first. I’ll hunt you down like a pack of wolves. I won’t stop until you’re dead.” Willow whispered into the night.
