Chapter 5
They say once you have mastered being alone, you are ready for the company of others, that doesn’t make it easy though. When everyone’s life journey is separated from my own, thought Odarin, as he dressed himself to leave, when the only heart beating in this house belonged to him, it wasn’t something most could take.
For there are days when his brain became a cold fire, perhaps that is what others call panic, but when he was alone, who was he going to summon?
I guess the good news is that in time, after many unpleasant days, Odarin might be okay. Then he will find joy again, or maybe it will find him. After that, your journey can change, take on new and exciting adventures... He wished he could wave a magic wand ( and he could ) for you who are alone, but there are somethings you must learn the hard way, and do it for yourself.
Odarin was about to discover so many aspects of himself and his life he never dreamed possible.
It was exciting.
His new home could be in a new city that could be somewhere remote, for all the visitors that come. He enjoyed the cafe’s and pubs yet other than that he was alone. It’s odd, because he felt that he was a good person and friend. He felt that he made good choices and love and care to the best of his ability.
He was quick to love and slow to judge.
He walked the extra mile for strangers, maybe that’s what made him so strange. He would rather be alone in thought and be comfortable with who he was than to warp into someone else. He had a good brain, he could think, and that will always keep him thinking no matter what, alone or in the company of others.
Autumn was tapping on the door to the seasons there in his town and this brought forth an early evening, signifying the beginning of long periods of harsh loneliness and numb frostbite. Odarin sat in the corner of a dingy room in his house, his back pressed against the cold tiles and hands shivering along the lined edges of the cracked bricks and fragments of hope.
This was a state of raw abandonment that will swallow your sanity whole; dawn by dusk you feel your reason slipping through your frozen fingers. He lay his head gently on the hard surface on the bedroom floor, puffs of warm breath threading out of his lips. He’d do anything to feel the radiating heat of another by this point. Eyelids fluttering shut, he allowed himself a quick smile. A nice thought crossed his mind. Maybe he will be joining others soon, maybe if he just waited a little longer in town this would happen?
Maybe?
But no his mind was made up to leave and leave he shall.
No goodbyes, because no one would miss him, No good luck hugs because no one cared if he lived or died so it was time to satisfy his own state of mind, well being and mental stability and he was protected by some extremely strong magic and spells he had learned at his school so he wasn’t afraid at leaving...but just a bit sad at saying goodbye to his old home.
A lovely family of Dwarfs bought it and said they would look after it for him, so he settled almost right away hearing this. He handed over his keys to the newfamily and for the first time in a very long time he was unencumbered with anything else except his own personal items ferreted away in so many different pockets within his robes and a pack on his back that housed his extra clothes, toiletries , his map and two really good books. ( ...and his tooth brush).
Odarin stood there watching the new family move into his old home as if to reconcile himself one last time to the fact that he was now homeless and his adventure had begun in earnest.
Everything he owned he now had on him. No furniture to polish, no bills to pay he was cashed up with his money safely installed into a bank in town that he trusted so he took one last look at his old home and the memories he had there and marched straight into the local Motel to book a night there and get one more good nights sleep before he headed off to places unknown.
This seemed like the sensible thing to do given the stress of selling the house, giving away his stuff and selling every skerrick of furniture he held dear to his heart. Odarin put off his new adventure for one more night and decided to hit the frog and toad tomorrow.
