Chapter 681
Chapter 681
Jackson’s eyes glimmered. “It may be true that he hurt you, but he’s having a hard time too. If it wasn’t for his cooperation, we
wouldn’t have been able to catch him so soon. He returned from abroad and surrendered himself to the authorities after learning
that the authorities had resumed their investigation on this case,”
Of course, he deliberately left out the extreme measures he had taken to ensure that Yuri surrendered himself to the
authorities.
“A hard time?” sneered Serenity. “So what if he’s having a hard time? Am I supposed to feel bad for him now? It’s like asking a
murder victim to forgive her murderer. Don’t you find it absurd? It’s a miracle that I survived my prison sentence. Had I died in
that place, I wouldn’t have been able to stand before him today!”
Every word she said hurt his heart like a whip. For a moment, he found it hard to breathe.
“So... you will never forgive him, is that right?” murmured Jackson.
“That’s right! I will never forgive a person who hurt me so deeply!” replied Serenity, who failed to notice Jackson’s odd reaction.
The overflow of emotions was a result of the pain she had endured over the years. “I can’t believe he has the audacity to ask for
forgiveness! Doesn’t he feel shame?! If things could be resolved so easily, what’s the point of having laws? I’m not gonna forgive
him, and I never will! Not after he wrecked my entire life!”
“Enough!” Jackson wrapped his arms tightly around Serenity. “Not a word more, okay? If you want to see him, then so be it. If
you want him to be punished, then I’ll make sure he gets that!”
Whatever she wanted, he could do it, as long as Serenity stopped talking!
If she ever found out the truth, the words she said today would not be directed at Yuri, but at himself!
Back then, if only he had had an ounce of sympathy for her, this wouldn’t have happened.
Serenity sobbed in his arms. “Jack, why are humans so cruel? How could you send someone to hell for your own sake? Even if
it’s true that he volunteered to come back and stand in the trial, it will never be enough to give me my life back!”
Unless they could turn back time, even if Yuri was sentenced to life behind bars, to her, it only served to soothe the anger in her
heart. Other than that, it was all meaningless..
Jackson felt his clothes get wet again. He knew it was because of her tears.
For three years, she had been crying.
And now, all he could do was to help overturn her case and restore her so–called innocence.
As for the rest, he simply could not give it to her. He had to keep it a secret from her!
“The cruelty of man is beyond your imagination.”
In his heart, Jackson swore to make up for the suffering he had put her through. That was why he prayed for her forgiveness.
He wanted her to forgive him!
He just... loved her too much!
In the evening at the detention center, in the same interview room, Yuri glanced at Jackson hesitantly.
In the past, he used to think that Serenity was just a doll that people could manipulate easily. Even though she used to be Zeke’s
girlfriend, she had little power or influence. Worse, the Shaws had abandoned her to avoid offending the Halls or the Valors.
That explained why he had chosen Serenity as his scapegoat.
However, he never expected that Jackson would stand up for her.
Aside from the incident involving Mira, these two weren’t supposed to cross paths at all.
