MYSTICS (Book one of the Mystic series)

Chapter The unexpected

It had been five days and it was time to return to the mountain. I awoke so early that the stars were still out but it gave me time to clear away our camp. I finished as the sun rose so I admired my scars. The ones on my legs were quite unique. Perfectly boxing in my shins but as if it couldn’t touch them. My arms, on the other hand, were very strange. At first, I thought they were just random markings but now I look closer at them there was a hidden message so to speak. It read:

' ihe niile di na otu '

most likely just some gibberish but maybe another incantation. I wouldn't risk trying it out as Strike was stirring. The sun was nearly resting on the trees before I woke strike. He sat up and looked very sad. I don't blame him.

We fashioned a makeshift sledge to bring the bodies down. We began our march up the mountain. It did not take long to reach the base as I couldn't teleport us very far (YET).

I stared up at the mountain gazing at the thing that left my friends for dead. We clambered up the mountain to where I think we teleported from. I dug around in the snow in desperation and was greatly greaved to find the first body. Breeze lay there lifeless with her petrified face frozen. Like all that was left was horror and torment.

We respectfully pulled her from the snow and placed her on the sledge. We continued upwards and then I heard the most peculiar thing. A breath. It wasn't mine nor Strikes, was it. A smile grew on my face and I began to dig around. Someone Must still be alive!

We pulled snow from under us faster than a pirate digging up his treasure. The breaths grew faster louder and more frequent. I took one last handful of snow and a ghast of heat hit me in the face. Strike wafted away the steam to see a welcoming face. It was Ash!

I immediately lunged at her to give her the biggest hug but she didn't move. She would not stop staring at a wall of the small den she made. Strike hopped out and said " If you stay here and keep working on helping her I'll find the others. He left my view and at that moment life was shot into Ash. She screamed my name and practically jumped on me.

"OMG VOID YOU'RE ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"I am now plz stop shouting. We don't want a cave in." She quickly shut her mouth then said " There was an avalanche me and breeze tried to stop it but I couldn't keep my flame forever then it began to retreat towards me and one by one I watched as they were crushed by the snow. Sye stayed with me the whole time but was hit with a rock. He instantly got in my head. He tried talking to me to keep me calm His figure began to chip away. I stood there over these many days and watched as he turned to dust and spoke to me "Don't stop fighting for the freedom you deserve." He then turned to dust and I woke up. and well here we are."

I was so conflicted. On the one hand, he tried to kill me but on the other hand, he saved ash. I didn't know what to think of him Whether I should still be mad at him or grateful. Maybe even both.

Strike reappeared by the opening and said he found sye and flint dead.

"Hey, void also you might want to come to see this."

We looked at each other then left the hole to follow him. He took us over to a girl who was sat huddled up by the sledge.

We were very wary of her and asked very simple things

"What's your name?"

"I'm Hydra " She shuddered.

" Do you know what a mystic is ?"

"Of course I mean I am one!" Everyone looked a bit astounded at that.

"What element are you"

"I think I'm 3 elements"

I got really nervous. She could be a real threat to us.

"What are they?"

"I think earth and air are new but I'm water."

I decided it would be best not to question her anymore so I said for us to move out. I and ash pulled the sledge while Strike guided the way. We were once again returning to the elemental heart. The final resting place of the mystics.
