MYSTICS (Book one of the Mystic series)

Chapter The mountain

We had been walking for a few hours now and I barely had the strength to keep going. The mountain was so far away and until we get there we have no way of knowing if this girl is alive. I felt so weak. My leg was writhing in agony. I couldn't take it any more. I collapsed to the ground out of breath. Breeze ran over to me and tried to help me up. I was just too tired. She shouted for the others.

" Guys we can't keep going like this we won't make it."

Sye looked back in frustration and then looked back to the mountain. He didn't want to rest but he also didn't want to watch his family die again.

I hoped he would let us rest but he just said: "Move out."He was sentencing me to death!

They all kept walking leaving me behind but to my surprise, someone came back to me. It was a strike. He wouldn't leave me. Not again. He curled up next to me and tried to sleep. The others I guess never truly liked me even if I could have been the most powerful one.

A storm was approaching and we couldn't stay here. I barely had enough strength to stand. I knew there was only one way off this mountain range. My portals. It could cost me my life but if it kept Strike alive I could live with it.

The storm was growing thicker and I could barely see my hand. I made a portal to the open plains and pulled strike through. My nose was bleeding a lot and I was struggling to stay conscious. My eyelids grew heavier and I fell into darkness. It consumed me.

I saw breeze trying to blow away the storm. she used all he power but it wasn't enough. An avalanche came crashing down the mountain. They all drowned in the snow.A death befitting of no-one.

I woke up. Heart racing and My head were spinning. I sat up too fast and saw strike by a fire cooking a hare he must have caught. Good on him. I was lent up against a rock. He saw me get up and came over to me with a leaf full of a steaming drink.

"Its a broth made from the rabbit. You should be able to keep it down." I stared up at him and gulped it down. I said, " I guess I'm no good at this surviving thing then am i." I chuckled.

I looked up at the mountain. It looked different.

"what's up with the mountain?"

He sobbed "there was an avalanche. Half of the mountain collapsed. They're all gone Void.No-one could have survived even with their powers." He began to ball.

I looked back to the mountain lost for words. wha.. I just saw them. But they are gone. No chance for return. I can't believe it; I won't!

I asked slowly as my voice was hoarse "How long was I out ?"

He continued to look at the rabbit " 'bout a week but my sister taught me well so I kept you alive...Well kinda"

"How kinda!?"

"Weeeelllllll....you were fine for three days but when I went to check on you your heart had stopped. I panicked. I shocked you over and over but you weren't responding so I took a huge bolt of lightning and struck you. It brought you back but it umm kinda burnt your arms and legs, like a lot."

He looked so guilty but when I looked at my legs it was kinda cool. It looked like they were like name borders. My arms did look kind of messed up but who cares.

I stared back at the mountain and asked him "do you think in a day or two we could head up there ?" Wait why was I asking him he's only 8!?

"It's only right that we find the bodies and take them to the grave." First light on the fifth day we agreed to head up there. That would give time for the storm to pass and for the wind to remove some of the snow for us.

I'm not sure if I could bury them all I mean they were my friends and his sister. The pain may be unbearable. Perhaps this is what flint was talking about. Horrors no child should see. A corpse.
