Mysterious Little Wife

Chapter 16 Thank You for Your Helping Hand, My Dear Brother-In-Law!

Bailey went on to explain, "This is my other daughter, Lillianna's twin sister, Lacey Carter, who is also the leading lady on the video!"

"What?"

The crowd was blown away.

Amidst the noisy crowd, a man quietly streamed live with his phone.

And on the other end of this live stream was the entire Facebook community.

Meanwhile, Sam tapped his desk gently in his office.

He gazed at the girl on the stage via the computer screen.

She hadn't spoken since she got on stage. Her expression was so flat and unchanged. Her one pair of eyes was even calmer.

"She lacked upbringing from a young age. She had done theft, told lies, and was greedy. She had two abortions in junior high, and her personal life was a mess." He recalled the contents of the document. Yet, why did she seem so calm? Was it because she had been through all too much?

Two hours had passed.

In those few hours, countless questions and scorn had swept over her.

Despite this, she only said one sentence during the entire conference, "Yes, that's me in the video!"

That statement caused a stir on Facebook.

All kinds of horrible insults could be heard from below the stage. There were even calls for her to be kicked out of South City.

"Can I go now?" She held up her hand and looked at the time. It had been two hours. Her mother would be concerned if she didn't return.

Of a sudden, Bailey came forward and slapped her across the face.

Lacey was caught off guard.

Many reporters were astounded as well.

Lowering her head, Lacey smiled. She then came to a halt and stared at her so-called father.

Bailey gazed into her dark eyes, which were as cold as ice. He felt sorry for her. Yet, only for a moment. Staring at him, Lacey beamed, but a mournful one.

"Don't forget the promise you made!" Shortly afterward, she said in a low voice that only the two could hear.

From there, she turned and walked out the door.

It was pouring outside.

The dark sky was as oppressed as her current mood.

She stood quietly, watching the pouring rain. Her hands clutched the hem of her clothes as she trembled.

"You have to take the blame for your sister if you want your mother to be treated!"

"Dare you refuse? Are you confident that you'll be able to make it in South City?"

"Do you suppose she'll listen to you, or do you think she'll listen to me and return to Klosa?"

Indeed, he was confident that Maria would never disobey him.

He was also sure that she couldn't tolerate being apart from her mother.

Forget it. Her reputation didn't matter anyway. It was little more than a name.

They'd return to Klosa once her mother's surgery was over on Monday.

By then, everything would have come to an end.

"There she is! The woman who has no shame!"

Just then, several girls appeared out of nowhere. They charged at Lacey and pushed her to the ground.

"How can you be so shameless as to mess around with men and almost let Lillianna take the blame?" The girl in the lead posed in disgust.

"That's right. How disgraceful of you! I'm going to do Lillianna justice!" The other girl said as she pulled up her sleeve.

"How did Lillianna get an awful sister like you?"

The girls pinned her to the ground, yanking her hair and clothes as hard as they could.

They despised her as though she had committed a heinous crime.

Lacey didn't put up the slightest resistance. The four pounded and kicked her while she lay on the cold ground.

"Have you ever thought of me as your daughter?" She recalled what she had said back then.

She never understood why, as his daughter, he had to abuse her in this manner.

She was no object.

She had feelings too.

Bailey was her biological father, without a doubt.

Therefore, why did he treat her this way?

It hurt.

It really did.

Just then, both the pain and the rain came to a halt.

The girls looked up, stunned by sight.

It was Sam. He was wearing a black overcoat and holding a black umbrella. His temperament was cold, his eyes calm yet dominant.

Sam?

Sam Garrison?

"Get lost!" He exclaimed.

Fear gripped the girls, and they bolted.

Asa crouched on the ground and handed her an umbrella. "Are you okay?" He asked with concern.

Lacey gradually opened her eyes. Her eyes were calm despite her pale appearance. She sat up, clutching her ripped clothes tightly.

"You got what you deserved!" Sam stared at her as he spilled the cold words.

Despite the cold and pain, she smiled indifferently.

Did she actually deserve it, though?

Nevertheless, the whole South City would probably say the same thing.

She raised her head and looked him in the eyes. Despite looking woefully out of place, Lacey smiled brightly and said, "Thank you for your helping hand, my dear brother-in-law!"☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
