My Wolf and I

Chapter 6 ✔

AIDEN

“I- I need to think,” I said numbly while getting up and walking to the bedroom.

Cato protested but I couldn’t hear what he said. When I got to the bedroom I closed and locked the door. Before thinking, I took out my phone and texted Jayvee.

To - Perverted Jaybird

Hey you didn’t give me a fake number, did you?

Almost instantly he texted back.

From - Perverted Jaybird

Now, why would I do that, sugar?

What’s up? Working on the project without me :’(

The crying emoji made me smile before I remembered why I texted in the first place.

To - Perverted Jaybird

Actually, I just wanted to talk. I need a distraction; my bf just gave me a lot to process.

From - Perverted Jaybird

Well, Look no further sugar, I can be the best ‘distraction’ you’ve ever had.

And we continued to text for hours, I fell asleep before I could think about Cato’s confession

The next morning, I woke up to a text from Jayvee.

From - Songbird

I can’t believe you fell asleep on me last night. Hope you got enough sleep. Good morning sugar <3

The heart emoji had my own soaring. My smile could light up a room, but apparently not my own living room.

Cato sat up on the couch as I walked in. It looked like he had been crying all night. “Did you have enough time to think?” he asked looking up at me from his sitting position.

“Not yet, but I’ll have an answer for you after classes.”

He nodded slowly before getting up and walking to the bathroom. While he was out of my sight, I went about making my lunch for the day. After I made that, I decided to make cupcakes as a sample for the business project.

To – Songbird

Hey songbird, I’m making cupcakes for a sample, any requests?

From - Songbird

You don’t need to call me that just because I told you I like to sing, Sugar

To - Songbird

If you get to call me Sugar, I get to call you Songbird.

From - Songbird

Next, you’ll tell me that it’s my contact name

To - Songbird

. . .

Maybe

Cupcake Requests are closing soon

From – Songbird

Ok! Chocolate vanilla swirl

I smiled at the text. As much as I loved making new things, the classics were my favorite. By the time the cupcakes were in the oven, Cato was out of the bathroom and apartment.

While the cupcakes were cooking, I hopped into the shower. That was where I finally had time to think.

That night was real, it actually happened, it wasn’t a dream. He said he didn’t do anything, but he wasn’t telling me everything. How could I stay with someone that has lied to me?

Once my shower was done, I had made up my mind. I quickly dried off and wrapped the towel around my waist.

As I made my way to the bedroom from the bathroom the timer for the cupcakes went off which made me jump.

“At least no one saw that,” I said while pulling the tray out of the oven.

“Sugar, please tell me you brought my sugar.” Jayvee exclaimed when I walked into the classroom.

“You are such a dork. Yes, I brought the cupcakes” I said while holding up my cupcake holder.

I smiled at him while setting the holder on the table. I opened the container and handed Jayvee the best-looking cupcake.

He was about to take a big bite but paused and said “There are no bugs in it right? Looking skeptical at the dessert.

I laughed loudly causing those around us to turn and stare. Jayvee let out a low rumble in his chest causing my heart to feel filled

“No, there are no bugs in it, you sound like my dad.” He grinned at me before taking a huge bite of the small cake. His face melted to a look of pure bliss. He moaned at the taste, which had another part of me feel filled. “What do ya think?”

“This is the best thing ever, even better than my dad’s.” He said finishing off the cupcake and going for another.

“Hey wait. Why don’t we use this opportunity to get to know each other? For every cupcake grabbed a question has to be answered.” I spoke

“Seems fair enough, ask away.”

“Why do you flirt with me? The real reason.”

He looked like he was thinking for a few minutes before saying “I’m not really sure how to explain it, it’s just something pulling me towards you like I need to get to you before the force has me crashing into you.”

“Wow, okay. I wasn’t expecting that deep of an answer” I admitted softly “I don’t think anyone’s ever been that deep before when talking to me.”

“I could go deeper.” He said smirking

“You perv! Ruining our moment.” I shoved his shoulder. “Your turn to ask a question,” I said reaching for a cupcake.

“What are your parent’s names?” He asked simply.

“I’m sorry? I figured you’d ask something perverted for sure.”

“Nope, I want to know everything about you. ‘No detail is too small’ and all that.” He admitted, slightly mocking our teacher.

“Alright, my Dad’s name is Ace, and my Papa’s name is Kade, they adopted me when I was four. But that doesn’t make them any less my parents. Um, bonus info; I have three younger siblings Luna- the middle child then Mikey, and Neo the twins. What about you?”

“I’m an only child but I have a big family. My parents are Jennifer and Joseph Haddox. We live with my aunts and uncles on a large piece of property about twenty minutes away from here. Is it really your dream to run a bakery or did you just say that to get your hands on my parents’ bakery?” he asked as I grabbed my third cupcake.

“I’ve wanted to own my own bakery since I was a kid so no, I’m not trying to get my hands on your parents’ store. I’ve loved baking for as long as I can remember. Making new creative recipes is what I live for. It’s why I laughed so hard when you asked if there were bugs in these – I’ve put bugs in my icing before.”

“I’m glad I’m getting to learn so much about you.” He said fondly “Now hit me with a doozy.”

“Alright but remember you asked for it.” I warned, “What is the most traumatic thing you’ve been through?”

“I wasn’t always an only child. I had a younger sister, Stella. She was beautiful even at four when she died. I was only eight and we were playing in the woods by our house, but I didn’t notice how far we had gone. She wanted to play hide and seek. She hid while I tried to find her. When I finally found her though – I didn’t find her I found wolves surrounding her dead body. I took her took far from the house.”

“Jayvee, you can’t blame yourself for that, you were only a kid. You wouldn’t have known the wolves would get her.”

“I’m not so sure. Anyway, what kind of life did you have growing up?” He asked as I grabbed my last cupcake- I was full.

“Well, that depends on my age. When I was around three my bio parents died in front of me, car crash. When I was nine and ten my Dad, Ace, was in a coma we thought we were gonna lose him. I was pretty messed up for a couple years after that. But other than that, I had a good life.”

“Wow, I never would’ve guessed you went through so much at such a young age.”

“Yup, also I’m not gonna have anymore. So, if you want to take them you can. I’ll also answer another question- a bonus if you will.” I said as he picked up one more cupcake.

“Sweet! Ask me your question then I’ll ask the bonus.”

“What’s your house like? You said you lived on a large piece of land, is it like a farm? Do you have cows?”

He laughed before answering, “No, it’s not a farm and no I don’t have cows. I would closely relate it to a forest, but a lot of the trees have been cut down to make room for the houses-” He stopped himself like he said something he wasn’t supposed to.

“Houses? Like multiple? Jeez, how big is your family? I figured y’all just lived in one house together.”

“Haha, yea. Anyways What was last night about? Did something happen with you and your boyfriend?”

My mood instantly changed. “You could say that. I’m not ready to talk about it fully but let’s just say I’ve decided to break up with him because of this.”

“Wow, that serious huh?” He said his face wide with surprise. “hey, I’m not trying to make you pissed, and please don’t think I’m trying to take advantage of this but do you wanna come over to my place? We could bake something, watch a movie?”

I don’t know what was going on in my head, but I said yes.
