My King Mates

Chapter Chapter Forty One

I wake up with a groan. My body is so sore. I turn in bed so I’m facing Sawyer. I hope my eyes find him gone. It takes me a few minutes to realize today he and half the pack is leaving to fight the Vampires. My heart sinks not just for my mate but also for the pack. A lot of them aren’t going to come back.

Early this morning I woke up to Sawyer kissing my naked back. It was an amazing wake-up call but when I opened my eyes my heart sunk when I realized he was waking me up because he has to leave. Last night we had sex one more time and that was in the shower which resulted in a very long shower. We got dirty after we got all cleaned so we had to get clean again.

I sigh as I stare at the ceiling. I don’t want to leave this bed. My body is sore and my heart hurts. But I’m a Luna and a Queen I must get out. I have to put my feelings away for now.

Since I took a shower last night I’ll be fine for the day. I go into the bathroom to use it of course as a normal person does in the morning. I then go to the closet and pick out a light gray long sleeve and faded blue jeans paired with white sneakers. I walk around the closet grabbing clothes that will last me two weeks and put them in a suitcase. I also grab a few of Sawyer’s shirts and hoodies to wear to bed.

I exit the bedroom making sure I lock it before heading down to the first floor. I don’t know what these safe houses are. So this will be a new experience for us. Sawyer told me that as long as he’s been alive there was never a need to use the safe houses. The pack did do drills in case something does happen where they are needed.

The elevator dings and I walk in. Before bed, Sawyer told me a little bit about these safe houses. It’s designed to look like a normal human neighborhood. Houses with large backyards next to each other and behind each other. There are tunnels under neither connecting to each house. For the pack, members can travel to each other without going outside and looking suspicious.

He told me it’s a gated community so people can’t drive to the neighborhood. A few wolves do live there to make it look like it’s an active neighborhood and it won’t be weird if one day there’s no one and the next there’s a full town.

The elevator digs again. The doors open and I walk out. I’m starting to get used to the elevator which is really nice. Sawyer isn’t going to be able to go on the elevator with me every time I need to go up or down a floor.

I walk between the stairs to see the pack who lives in the castle standing there waiting. I smile at them when they notice me. The pack members bow down to me and wish me a good morning. “And a good morning to you all. We must get going in case any of those vampires decides to attack here thinking we have no protection and nowhere to do” I inform them.

They nod and head out of the door. Many of the pack who don’t live in the castle left this morning after the men and women left for war. There are three buses fitting up to 150 are waiting for the pack. A guard will be driving Leyla and me to the house we will be sharing. From what I’ve been told the house blends in so it looks just like every other house so we won’t stand out. We are trying to blend in. We don’t know how long this war will be going on so we are supposed to start our lives and act like we are normal humans.

I’ve only been a wolf for two days. A lot has happened in these last couple of days and it upsets my wolf and me that we couldn’t spend more time with each other. Not only with me being fully shifted but as a fully mated couple as well. I wish we could have taken our time to make that step to have a baby. But this is our life.

I look out the window watching as the trees pass by in a blur small raindrops hitting the window. This matches my mood. I would do anything to be with Sawyer in our living room cuddling on the couch with a hot chocolate with the fireplace lit and watching Disney movies. But instead, he’s at war.

“How far is the safe house?” I ask. “25 minutes away,” the guard tells me. I nod my head not sure if he saw me or not and at this moment I don’t care. I turn away from the window and look to my left to find Leyla doing what I was doing. Looking out the window but I can see tears streaming down her cheeks.

My heart aches for her. I know how she’s feeling. They were still getting to know each other and he might leave her with a potential child to raise on her own. I look away from Leyla and back out my window and before I knew it I dozed off.

“Luna... Luna, we are here” I hear a faint voice. I blink my eyes open and look around me to find myself in the car. Did I fall asleep 10 minutes into a 25-minute car ride and sleep like we were in here for hours?

I look up to find my door open and the guard standing there. I look around myself to find Leyla nowhere in sight. “The Beta Female went in. She said she wants to be alone and will come out when she’s ready” he explains. I nod and take my seat belt off and get out of the car.

“Luna I know I’m only the guard but if you do need someone to talk to I am here. I know how you and the Beta are feeling. My mate volunteered for the war and is out there right now. I’m worried sick about her. The only thing keeping me sane is that I can feel her so I know she’s alive and unhurt” he tells me.

I stop walking towards the door and look at the guard. “How?” I ask. He smiles “let’s get inside where it’s safe and I’ll explain to you,” he tells me. I nod my head and hurry to the door. Before he can open it for me I’m already walking inside. I look around the place. The first thing you walk into is a comfy rustic living room with an attached dining room and kitchen. Straight ahead is a hallway and from where I’m standing it looks like there are 3 doors.

“There are three bedrooms upstairs and two bathrooms. Downstairs is a large family room along with an office another bathroom and a game room” the guard tells me. I nod liking how it looks. “Would you like me to show you to your room?” He asks.

“Later. I want to know about mates feeling each other” I tell him. The guard nods. I walk over to a brown couch and sit down. He sits on the couch opposite me.

“Well, Luna I’ll start out by introducing myself. I’m Darwin your personal guard along with the Female Beta. My mate and I have been with each other for a little over a year. We were planning on having children until news of the war broke out. When it was announced that you can volunteer to be in the war my mate didn’t think twice about it. She told me that she will do anything in her power to protect her Queen.

So about the feeling your mate. I didn’t realize it would be difficult to explain until now. It’s mostly your wolves connecting each other. It’s like mind linking. You find your mate and connect with them to talk but instead of your mind connecting it’s your feelings. You reach into the bond for your mate and when you do that you can feel what they do. It’s mostly so a male wolf knows when his female is in danger. But in society nowadays it’s both ways.” Darwin explains.

‘Don’t worry about it. I’ll do it’ Viki tells me. I feel her disappearing for a little bit until I start feeling something that isn’t me. Anxiety, stress, worry, and scared. Sawyer.
