Chapter Heartache
"You must be mad if you think I'm going to choose between my brothers, what kind of sick twisted game is this" I yelled pushing him backward.
He crossed his arms and shrugged without a care in the world.
"Well you either choose one or they both die, the choice is yours but either way the clock is ticking"
My mind went on overdrive, I felt sick to my stomach. Like I couldn't breathe, there's no way I can choose between them. They are my family, the only ones I have left apart from my sons but it's just not the same right now.
"I hate you, how could I have ever loved a monster" I screamed and shot my hand forward, lighting erupted from me and hit Zac.
The black sky flashed highlighting the dead Demons on the floor, and gravestones that either had flowers lay on them or vines that had grown covering the words of whoever was buried.
He fell to the floor yelping in pain till there was just silence, the odd rustle from the scattered autumn leaves across the dirty graveyard floor.
I stepped towards him and crouched down, he was dead but not properly. I don't know how much longer I have until he wakes.
All I know is I need to save my brothers from him and whatever he had planned.
My body was shaking but I jumped up and ran away from them, my hair whipping around my face from the wind.
Without stopping I pulled my phone out of my pocket and went straight to Austin number and called it.
It rang a few times making me anxious but he finally picked up.
"Hey, little Rae, what's up?" He sounded happy, I could hear a song playing quietly in the background.
"Where are you?" I rushed out.
Turning a corner trying to doge the odd person walking back, my chest tightening from the amount of running I've done.
God, I'm nowhere near the hospital yet.
"I'm on my way home now, and don't worry you're on speaker so both of my hands are on the wheel... wait are you running" I could hear him laugh.
My eyes started to blur so I stopped, one hand on a wall beside me I fell forward trying to get my breath back.
My stomach was all over the place, my ears were ringing. All I could think about was saving them, but I needed help.
"Austin I need you to stop your car, I don't care where you are, just stop. I'm gonna send someone to you but I really need to go, I love you" I hung up.
Throwing my phone back into my pocket, I closed my eyes trying to gather my thoughts. Then I felt a hand on my shoulder.
A high pitched scream left my mouth, my hand lifting up ready to attack whoever it was but instantly stopped as soon as blue crystal eyes met mine.
"Athena, what's wrong?" He was worried.
"I need you to take me to Aiden, but I need Marax. He needs to be with Austin but I don't know how to get hold of him"
Everything was a mess, my head was pounding. I couldn't think straight, I just needed to get to Aiden.
Nathaniel took my hands "Athena look at me" His voice was stern, trying to gain my attention.
I opened my eyes to see him staring down at me.
"First I need you to breathe, now in your head just say his name. He will hear you"
Without hesitation I did just that, I said his name twice and just like that he appeared right in front of us.
"You called"
"Marax I need you to go to Austin now, please don't ask me why I don't have time to explain. Just go to him now and keep him safe" my voice was shaky.
He just nodded, looking between me and Nathaniel before quickly giving me a hug and then vanished again.
I turned towards Nathanial "you need to take me to the hospital now, Aiden is in trouble"
No more words needed to be said, he just took both of my hands. Blue orbs surrounded us, everything around us disappearing. The only thing I felt was Nathanial's calloused hands wrapped around my small cold ones.
After what felt like forever the hospital was right in front of me, and I wired no time in running towards it leaving Nathaniel calling after me.
I pushed the double doors open, looking from side to side to see where the reception desk was.
An old woman was sat behind it looking down whilst twirling a pencil between her wrinkly fingers, my legs didn't stop till I was in front of her.
I'd go straight to his room but Austin told me he was moved into another ward, and I can't remember where. He was awake now, but needs to stay in so they can keep at eye on him.
One of these days I really need to start listening to him.
"I need you to tell me where Aiden Walsh's room is" I rushed out, my voice slightly loud.
Her tired eyes looked up and towards me, a scowl on her face as she looked me up and down.
"Visiting times are over" Then she looked back down.
Well, that's just plain rude.
"Excuse me"
"You may be excused"
I slammed my hands down startling her "tell me where the hell Aiden Walsh's room is right now or so help me..."
"It's room 27, top floor on the intensive care unit" She visibly gulped.
I'm usually never mean or demanding but this was literally a matter of life and death.
Nobody mattered around me, I just pushed myself as fast as I could go. My fingers constantly tapping the elevator buttons.
This is useless.
Heading towards the stairs I ran up them, two at a time. Ignoring the ache in my chest, the burn in my legs I just kept going. My feet tripping on the odd step but I didn't stop, there was no time.
His room came into view, a bit of relief flooded through me. The corridors were dark and silent. Only the beeping of machines was heard.
Running up to his door I peered through the window to see him stood up looking outside the window. He was still wrapped in bandages, but he looked the same.
I pushed open his door, his head snapping towards me and a massive grin spread across his face and I did the same.
"Hey Rae"
Then he was still, his eyes wide like they were staring into my soul. The life drained from them. That's when I noticed another figure appear.
His smile slipped away as he fell to his knees, and that's when I saw Zac with an evil grin. Then the worst thing I ever saw was him holding Aiden's heart.
Blood dripping onto the floor and on my brother's now dead body.
My world just shattered around me, my mouth opened letting screams out but I couldn't hear anything apart from the beating of my own heart.
Zac was now gone, leaving me alone in the room whilst Aiden bled to death. Tears poured down my gave as I made my way to him.
Dropping on my knees I cradled his head on my legs, sobbing uncontrollably as I brushed his hair away from his face.
There was blood all over me.
"Please don't leave me, I need you. I'm so sorry for calling you an annoying brother. Telling you that Austin is my favourite, or the time I told all the girls in your class that you had herpes because you ripped my teddies head off threw your dirty Boxers on me"
My whole body was shaking as I kept looking at his heart that was laying on the floor.
The door swung open revealing some security and nurses, they raced over to me. One of them tried taking Aiden away whilst another tried lifting me off the floor.
I thrashed around, trying to hold onto my big brother.
"Let go of me, you can't take him away. I need him, just let go" I cried.
Aiden's body was being carried away as I yelled for them to stop, to bring him back to me.
Familiar arms wrapped around me, bringing me into their chest as I screamed for him. I couldn't stop my tears, my heart was breaking.
Nathanial held me tight, not letting me go as I hit his chest over and over again until I couldn't anymore, my legs gave out but he didn't let go.
I never realised Nathaniel was with me the whole time, he also had to watch him die.
We were just too late.
