Chapter 392 Inescapable
Chapter 392 Inescapable
There were two guards each behind Lucius, Russell, and Maddox as they made their way to the restaurant.
Freya accompanied Jamie to a corner of the restaurant where a variety of dishes were already laid out on the table. The dishes were all specialties from Floravalea.
A skilled chef was busy preparing the ingredients at a nearby table.
Lucius frowned as he watched the chef expertly dissect a fish and turn it into thinly sliced raw fish. He then threw the fish into a nearby water tank, leaving only the delicate fish bones, yet the fish was still swimming in the tank.
Jamie seemed unfazed by this and had already started enjoying the thinly sliced raw fish in front of him.
Lucius, however, felt a wave of nausea.
“This is a chef I specially invited from Floravalea. He’s a chef that won three Michelin stars.” Jamie chuckled. “I was worried that you wouldn’t be accustomed to our usual food, so I arranged this special meal for you. Why aren’t you eating?”
Lucius’ face turned pale, but he remained silent. On the other hand, Russell picked up a piece of thinly sliced raw fish and slowly savored it.
Freya had eaten thinly sliced raw fish before, but never this “fresh.”
She also picked up a piece while suppressing her disgust.
Lucius furrowed his brow and began to say, “Miss Kaufmann-”
Freya discreetly pinched his arm under the table.
At this moment, they needed to conserve their energy and eat enough to have a chance of survival.
Freya suspected that Jamie wanted to assert his dominance by making them eat in this manner. After finishing the meal, Jamie stood up and left.
The four of them were then escorted to a spacious room on the first floor.
Inside the room, various medical instruments used by doctors were neatly arranged. If Freya didn’t know they were in Floravalea, she would have mistaken it for a doctor’s office at Caltun General Hospital.
Finally, there were no guards in the room. Maddox collapsed and rushed to Freya.
“Miss Kaufmann! What exactly is going on? Why have we been locked up here?!”
Freya lowered her gaze. “I’m sorry.”
She explained the situation little by little and omitted the part about the book.
“Jamie brought us here primarily to treat his brother’s stomach cancer. You all got involved because of me. I’m truly sorry!”
As she spoke, she bowed deeply to the three of them.
Lucius furrowed his brow after listening. “How can you blame yourself, Miss Kaufmann? This man has twisted intentions. Couldn’t he have simply taken his brother to the hospital? Why resort to such malicious methods?”
Russell sighed softly. “When I left home to receive the award this time, I told my wife I would be back in a week. It seems I won’t be able to return for the time being, but Miss Kaufmann, who exactly is this Mr.
Fraser? His methods don’t seem ordinary; he doesn’t appear to be an ordinary criminal.”
Freya sighed deeply in her heart.
Of course, he was not ordinary. LEV was an international terrorist organization that had struck fear into the hearts of many international law enforcement officers.
However, revealing this now would likely only increase their fear.
Freya pursed her lips and said, “Indeed, he’s not ordinary, but I don’t know the specifics. In any case, we must work together in the coming days to treat his brother’s illness.”
She glanced at the guards standing not far from the door and lowered her voice. “Rest assured. If there’s an opportunity, I will do everything I can to help the three of you escape!”
Maddox, who had remained silent, suddenly raised his head. His eyes behind the gold-rimmed glasses were filled with panic. “Escape? Is it even possible to escape? Miss Kaufmann, you know Mr. Fraser, don’t you? I can see that his attitude toward you is completely different! We were burdened because of you, but I beg you! Can you please plead with him to let me go home!”
Maddox’s legs trembled as the fear consumed him. “I can’t study anything about stomach cancer in my current state. I’m not even in this field of study. Even if he wants me, I’m useless, right? Miss Kaufmann!”
Freya hesitated and found it difficult to speak. “He probably won’t let you go back.”
“Does he want to kill me then?”
He looked at her in horror. “Killing is against the law. Since I’m of no use to him, I promise I won’t report to the police, okay?”
She lowered her head and felt guilty.
Maddox was being too optimistic. How could Jamie not dare to kill? Perhaps he had killed too many people and didn’t care about Maddox’s life at all.
“I’m sorry, but he probably doesn’t care about the law.
Maddox was dumbfounded upon hearing this, and he understood what it meant.
He held his heart for a moment, then covered his face, A man in his thirties was crying.
Freya hurriedly said, “I’m sorry, Maddox! Don’t worry. I will do everything I can to protect all of you, even if it means sacrificing my own life.”
Lucius was about to say it wasn’t necessary, but Maddox, who was beside him, had already collapsed. “I just want to be safe. Even if you’re willing to sacrifice your life, can that guarantee my safety?”
She fell silent. The four of them remained in the office for a while. The atmosphere was heavy and suffocating.
It was Russell who regained his composure first. “I must leave here safely! My children are still waiting for me, as is my wife!”
Among the three, he was the calmest. He stood up and looked at Freya. “Where is the patient? Let’s go see his condition.”
Freya pursed her lips. “All of his medical records should be here.”
Since Jamie had already set up the doctor’s office, Edward’s information should be readily available.
Freya glanced at the desk not far away, where a thick stack of documents was placed. She walked over and picked them up before confirming that they were Edward’s treatment records, including some previous test results from the Caltun General Hospital.
Russell approached when he saw this and took the documents from Freya’s hand. The two of them each. took half of the documents and carefully examined them.
Although Lucius was hot-blooded, he understood that now was not the time to be stubborn. Currently, the only way to leave this place might indeed be to cure that patient.
The three of them silently perused the documents. Maddox, who had been on the brink of a breakdown, gradually regained his composure after half an hour. He wiped away the tears on his face and approached Lucius to retrieve the documents.
However, the more they read, the more disheartened they felt. Russell’s face was filled with concern.
“Advanced stomach cancer is already untreatable! According to this patient’s medical records, it is in the most advanced stage. He doesn’t have much time left!
Lucius nodded in agreement. “Indeed.”
Maddox trembled and looked up at Freya. “By the way, Miss Kaufmann, if we can’t cure this patient, will that person allow us to return?”
Freya’s hand trembled slightly as she was unsure of how to respond to this already collapsed man.
“I hope you will give it your all.”
That was already the answer.
