My Eternal Mate

Chapter Chapter Twenty Eight

LYRA

Though, I felt completely frozen, being in my wolf form meant that my wolf was dominant. As the black, angry wolf approached us, my wolf quickly stepped aside.

The unfamiliar wolf howled loudly, before his paws screeched on the floor as he tried to slow his pace. He instantly turned around and charged towards me again.

This time my wolf wasn't backing down or moving to sidestep him, instead, she growled loudly and was about to leap at the stranger when another wolf, my mate to be precise, stepped in front of me.

He must have been too busy examining me to ensure that I was alright when the unfamiliar wolf attacked him, making Alexander growl loudly.

I panicked when I watched the wolf bite down on my mate's fur, taking a chunk of it off with his canines. My wolf whimpered, in sadness before anger coursed through us. Without thinking, she advanced towards the unfamiliar wolf and bit down on the side of his neck, making the wolf in question snarl angrily, before he turned his attention to me.

He was injured, but not enough to make him back down. But before he could do anything, Alexander, despite being hurt, attacked him. I wanted to join in and help my mate, when a very familiar wolf held me back. Jaxon.

'Don't get involved,' he warned in the mind-link.

'Alexander is hurt. Let me go!' I cried, before I nudged him away, but Jaxon wouldn't budge.

'He has ordered that I keep you here. He's already hurt, Lyra. Don't make this worse.'

His words made my wolf growl in anger, and before Jaxon could say anything else, I pushed him away with as much force as possible, causing for the man to go flying across the area.

My wolf was not going to sit back and watch our injured mate take on a wolf, who seemed to be slowly accompanied by other wolves that were with him.

I glanced around in confusion, but was grateful when I saw Dyami and a couple of other wolves from the pack surround the area and take on the rest of the wolves.

With a growl, I leaped towards the unfamiliar wolf that was currently fighting my mate. Alexander was stronger, it was quite obvious, but he was injured. There was blood pouring out of his fur, and I had to muster all the courage to not distract him because of how worried I was.

Instead, I snook up on the unfamiliar wolf whilst he was fighting Alexander, and attacked him. Perhaps, it wasn't the brightest idea on my part, but in that moment, my Alpha's safety was all that my wolf could focus on. His safety was her priority.

The wolf howled, but I seemed to have caused enough pain, because before he could react to my attack, Alexander bit down on his neck with his large canines and teared a chunk of him, including his neck. It was enough to kill him. The man shifted and remained lifeless on the ground.

There was sounds of screaming and growling in the background, but all I could focus on was Alexander. After tearing the wolf apart and ensuring he was dead, my mate turned to glance at me, his eyes quickly raked up and down my body, as if to examine me if I was alright.

'Baby, you alright? Did he hurt you?' he asked in the mind-link, but his voice was extremely weak, making me frown at him.

I had just about nodded when Alexander shifted and tried to stalk towards me, but ended up stumbling and falling to his knees. He ended up churning, and was sick all over the floor.

Shifting back myself, I yelled, "Alexander!"

Ignoring the mess on the floor, I rushed over to him. He tried to lift his head but was unable to, and I quickly gathered him in my arms before he could land in his own sick on the hard ground.

I held him close, my eyes watered on their own accord when I realised how bad of a situation he was in. His eyelids seemed heavy, forcing to stay open as colour slowly returned to his eyes with each second that he held my gaze.

He lifted his finger to brush it against my wet cheek, before a small smile covered his lips. "As long as you are alright," he murmured, his voice hardly above a whisper, before his eyes completely shut and he went limp in my arms, falling unconscious.

"No, no," I urged, my voice croaky as I cried. "Alexander, wake up. Please."

I was aggressively shaking him to bring his consciousness back, but he wasn't reacting at all. I didn't understand. Alpha's were supposed to heal quickly, why wasn't he?

"Luna," Dyami said, his voice hard as he lowered himself to our level. "Please, let me."

By this point, I seemed completely detached from everything and my wolf was whimpering, crying for her mate. When Dyami pulled Alexander from my arms, I snarled at him, but let him take my mate.

I wasn't sure what happened next, everything seemed to be happening in a rush. Adam lit a fire to cover all the dead lifeless bodies that had ended as a consequence of the unnecessary war. Dyami and I had rushed Alexander to the pack doctor, and our friends and families had rushed to us. Zynthéa had brought me a dress which I was grateful for.

"He's going to be okay," Zynthéa assured, hugging me close to her. "He's an Alpha, don't you forget that."

My tears wouldn't stop flowing, and the hours were ticking by but Alexander was still unconscious. The doctor informed us that the unfamiliar wolf, whom I now had discovered was the beta of Sirius Pack, had venom on his canines that could kill wolves.

The fact that he had bit down on my mate, not only with venom on his teeth, but also taken a chunk of his fur off, was the reason why Alexander's healing was so slow. We were lucky enough to know the venom hadn't killed him, and that his wolf had spat most of it out. Which also explained the sickness episode that Alexander had.

Tears continued to overspill, making me howl in pain. I just wanted Alexander to open his eyes and reassure me that everything was going to be alright.

"Here," Ava said, holding her arm out with a glass of water in her hand. "I can only imagine how much of a shock the whole night has been for you. Alexander would want you to stay hydrated, so please drink this."

I wanted to refuse the water but her last words made me whimper as I gracefully took the cup from her hands, thanking her in the process. I promised myself to never defy him again, and only listen to what he thought was best for us.

Even if going to the underground has turned out as per my expectations, I never wanted to argue with him again, only now realising how blessed I had been to have him.

"Luna, are you cold?" I heard Evan ask, holding a blanket up in his hands.

When I shook my head, he nodded his head and returned back to Jaxon who was leaned against the wall, with his hand on his jaw, giving me a sympathetic look.

"He's going to be alright," he assured me. "You have to believe that and support him right now."

Swallowing the lump in my throat, I nodded before I glanced at the clock on the wall and realised it was almost five in the morning by this point.

"You should all head back," I told them, glancing at my Alexander who was still unconscious. "When he wakes up, I will inform you."

"Are you sure? Because I don't mind staying if you want to go freshen up," Dyami chimed in, arching a brow.

I shook my head, turning to glance at him. "I appreciate it, but I can't leave his side."

Dyami pressed his lips together in a line before his eyes travelled to my mate, briefly. Nodding he replied, "Sure. If there is anything we can do in the meantime, let us know."

I thanked them all for coming, embracing them as they exited the room one by one. After exchanging a couple of optimistic words, the room fell silent with Alexander and I remaining.

I took a seat by the chair beside the bed, before my hands gripped on to his tightly. Without meaning to, my head fell on to the bed as I cried silently, wishing that I had been more on guard and reacted faster so that Alexander wouldn't be here.

It pained me to know that he was injured, and unconscious. This had never happened before, and it made me realise, despite his Alpha title, he was just as vulnerable.
