Chapter 15
- Partner.
“Mr. William, please leave my room. You promised to stay out of my hair whilst everything gets settled, but you haven’t been doing that.”
Great, she had gone back to speaking formally with him. William’s face became clouded with anger, and without thinking, he moved closer to Amelia, enveloping her in his arms.
“Amelia, we’re still legally married, if you don’t want me, who are you saving your body for? Technically, you are still mine.”
“All these while, you’ve always complained I never loved you, but what about you? Have you had someone else in your heart all along? Did you marry me for my money? Well, let me make it clear, I won’t give you a single cent. Divorcing means you leave with nothing.”
William knew he had to stop, and he was probably spouting nonsense, but he couldn’t help himself. He watched as tears rolled down Amelia’s face and felt shitty. He just caused her to cry again.
Just when William thought she might give in and maybe apologize, Amelia dropped the bomb. “Fine, I’ll leave with nothing as long as you sign the divorce agreement. Let’s get it over with tomorrow. We could as well leave together to avoid missing each other again.”
She was surprised to know that he thought she married him for his money. It was ridiculous, and it made her realize how pathetic she was to stick with him all this while.
William wasn’t expecting her answer and with one final look at Amelia, he picked up his robe and strolled out of the room being sure of something. There was no way he was divorcing her. He wouldn’t let her be with whoever it was Xavier was.
As soon as William left the room, Amelia broke down in tears. She cried, realizing how foolish and pathetic she was to have fallen in love with William. And even though it was a matter of the heart, Amelia blamed her heart too for being foolish.
Soon, it was daybreak, and as William sat in the dining room browsing through the morning news, he stylishly waited for Amelia to come downstairs, but she was nowhere to be seen at past eight which was very unlike her.
“Can you please check on her upstairs? She should be down for breakfast now.”
William asked Laura and she immediately took the flight of stairs.
At the door, Laura knocked a couple of times but got no response. She had kept her eyes particularly peeled this morning and was sure Amelia didn’t leave the premises. But Laura couldn’t understand why Amelia didn’t answer the door, so she stepped in.
“Ma’am.” Laura tried to shake Amelia awake, but there was no reply so she rushed downstairs to get William who sat waiting in the dining room.
“Mr. William, you have to come immediately. She is unconscious and isn’t replying to me.”
Without asking any questions or wasting time, William dashed upstairs and immediately carried Marjorie to the hospital.
It scared William to see Amelia unconscious as she didn’t believe he’d live to see that day. Amelia had always been strong and confident so he felt it would always go on like that.
“Are you okay?” William asked immediately when Amelia woke. He hadn’t left her side once since she got admitted except when he went to get her a lunchbox.
“I’m fine.” Amelia groaned and then snatched her hand out of William’s. He was the reason she was like this in the first place.
“The doctor said you’ve been under a lot of stress and you need to rest and stop thinking so much.”
Amelia nodded. “It’s a given, and that’s why I’d like to end it all soon.” She knew she was being stubborn, but didn’t care.
“You want a divorce from me so you’d get together with your lover? That’s never happening, Amelia. I won’t give you the divorce you desperately want, and you’ll remain my wife.”
“Well, I don’t think you need a wife. So please, let me go.” Amelia pleaded. She was on the brink of
tears again. William was truly stressing her out.
At the door, Victoria stood and listened to the duo, and seeing William’s attitude to the divorce, she felt like something could change since they weren’t on the same page anymore, however, something
confused her.
Victoria was a bit puzzled. Could Amelia truly have a lover outside there? It made no sense as she had watched the child grow up, and Amelia had never had a boyfriend before her marriage to William.
Seeing the tension in the room grow thicker, Victoria decided to make her entrance still in the hospital clothes. She had to keep her act on. At least in front of William
“Dear, how do you feel now? You gave us all a scare.”
“I’m sorry, Mom.” Amelia apologized, embarrassed.
“Silly, why would you apologize? It’s not your fault you fell sick.” Victoria replied, patting her hand. Then turning to face William, she asked him what the doctor advised.
“Mom, she can be discharged today, and there wasn’t anything wrong,” He chimed in, feeling a bit guilty for his behavior and trying to assure his mom.
“Then, I’d like to be discharged too. Afterward, I’ll stay at your place. Since I am sick, you two can take care of me, right?”
Vicky realized that if she did not intervene, a divorce was inevitable. She had to step in now. It was enough watching from the sidelines.
It did not take long for William to process their discharge, and soon they all returned to the couple’s
house.
Over the next few days, the house was bustling with Amelia and Victoria together. They’ll gist, talk about random things, and thanks to Victoria’s presence Amelia’s health got better as she focused on
her diet.
One evening, William returned to meet Victoria and Amelia having fun as usual. He was happy to see them so carefree, but at the same time, he realized he never had that sort of bonding with his mom. He needed to create time and stop focusing on work all through.
“What are those?” Victoria asked, noticing the dresses in William’s hands.
“Oh, dresses.” William smiled. “Amelia, I’d like us to go to an event as partners. It’s slated for tomorrow.”
Amelia stared blankly at William. Why was he asking her to be his partner? It never happened before.
“I thought you took your assistants to these events.” She asked him with a pointed look.
“Well, you’re my wife and you should get used to this.”
Now, Amelia noticed William used the word wife a lot these days. Why was he intent on putting effort
after all this while?
“I think you should go, Dear. You can also get to network and have fun. You’ve been indoors a lot these days.” Victoria chirped in and Amelia nodded. If only she weren’t here, Amelia would have spoken about the divorce.
The next day just as planned, Amelia and William showed up to the event as a couple. It was a charity event, and all eyes fell on Amelia immediately as she made her entrance into the hall. She looked breathtaking as usual
Soon, a man approached them. It was Jacob, and he was known by everyone to be a huge flirt. Seeing he didn’t recognize Amelia from anywhere, he hoped Williams would introduce them.
Strangely, he was alone that night, without a female companion and that was very unusual. However, he didn’t expect William’s reply.
“This is my wife.”
Just a simple statement with no name mentioned signaled to Jacob that this was a woman he should
not mess with.
“Oh, I had no idea you were married.” Then he apologized for interrupting and turned to leave.
All eyes had been on the couple the whole time, and when they heard that she was Stephen’s wife, the other women’s hearts shattered. He was taken after all.
“We got married two years ago, and we will hold a wedding ceremony later. You’re all invited then.”
At this point, Amelia was confused. Why was he announcing their relationship to the world when they would be getting divorced soon?
Goodness. William being married for two years was earth–shattering news. Not long ago, he had been

in the midst of a scandal with the actress Chloe, and now he has been married for two years. It made
no sense.
Just then, Chloe stepped into the hall, but she didn’t get enough attention like she normally would, and this got her surprised. But she didn’t have to wonder for long as she soon noticed William and beside him was no one but Amelia.
