Chapter 14
- Cake.
“Well, you can go ahead. Perhaps he’d be happy because of it. After all, Wallflower is a famous voice actor, and if we decide to table it, my influence might
surpass yours.”
Amelia liked the fact that Chloe had started this. She loved the way her smirk turned into a scowl and how her face turned sour. And without giving Chloe a chance for a comeback, Amelia got into the car and started the ignition.
Earlier before she got to the company, Amelia had gotten a text from Lea reminding her of dinner.
For Lea, she did not only want to know how the divorce process had gone. She also wanted to console Amelia without having them brood.
Looking at the time, Amelia realized she still had almost two hours before dinner, so she decided to go shopping.
Lately, she has been getting texts and emails from her favorite stores. They had restocked, and she couldn’t wait to see what new accessories and pretty dresses they had. She could as well as lavish William’s money one last time.
While shopping, Amelia realized how much it helped her relieve stress. She should have done this
more often.
As dinner time drew closer, Amelia decided she had done enough. She paid and carted everything into the car, and then she drove to the restaurant.
Lea had picked the restaurant from last time, and knowing her friend, Amelia guessed she had picked
the restaurant to spite William.
On getting to the restaurant, Lea welcomed Amelia with a bouquet and a cake that read congratulations on your divorce.
“Oh my God, Lea. This is silly.” Amelia exclaimed, taking the cake from her and giggling.
“I know, and that was the aim. Dear, today is the day you regain your freedom. I’ll treat you to a nice meal to celebrate being single again. You can treat me later.” Lea was enthusiastic, and Amelia
couldn’t help but smile.
“But why would you choose here of all places?” Amelia asked. She wasn’t sure she wanted them to run into William and maybe Chloe like last time.
“I know you wouldn’t want to run into William, but Amelia, I want him to know that you’d live very well without him. Or are you still hung up on him?” Lea asked, reaching out to hold Amelia’s can’t
over the table.
“No. It’s not that.” Amelia smiled sheepishly. “Actually, we didn’t get divorced today.”

“Why?” Lea exclaimed, almost jumping out of her chair. “Are you still in love with that jerk and don’t want to get divorced?”
“Well, it’s not that per se.” Then Amelia went on to explain what happened during the day.
“Then, just follow your heart. I don’t think you’ve given up on him yet. But as for this cake, we’ll
devour it.”
Amelia and Lea were still in the middle of discussing when they noticed a male figure stroll towards them, and it was no one but William. Surprisingly, he acknowledged their presence quite well.
“Wow. I see Mom’s sickness got in your way of celebration.”
He would never have expected Amelia to have a cake and celebration after their divorce. The realization that Amelia was bent on divorce hurt him, and he tried his best to mask it.
“Well, it would have all been over if someone had come earlier.” Amelia chirped and William cleared his throat. “Why are you here by the way?”
“Have you forgotten I own this building?”
“Well, I didn’t mean it that way. I was wondering since it would be just mom at the hospital.”
“Oh well. My bad. Well, I sent Laura to her. So, do you mind me joining you for dinner?”
Amelia wanted to use them being in public as an excuse, but when she looked around, she realized the restaurant had been cleared out. Seeing there were no excuses, she nodded and William plopped down beside her.
He then asked for some wine and they all drank together. It was the first time Amelia had a drink with William unprovoked..
Soon, it was late and William called chauffeurs. One for Lea, and the other for him and Amelia. Then, he handed the key to Amelia’s car to one of them, asking him to drop Lea at home and he had the
other drive him and Amelia home.
Amelia was lightweight, and it was no surprise she was drunk after taking a glass of wine. He had helped her into the car, and as the chauffeur drove them home, he complimented Amelia.
“You did well today, Wallflower.”
William didn’t understand why he couldn’t bring himself to compliment Amelia to her face. Today, he had her at the center of everything he did.
Not only did he know she had gone to the company, but he made sure to receive detailed reports on all her activities, including her voice acting. If the staff were the first audience for her work, then Stephen was the second.
Following the events of the day and the wine, it didn’t take long for Amelia to fall asleep and when they got home, he carried her out of the car and to the room, trying not to awaken her.
Carefully and gently, William placed Amelia on the bed and brushed his fingertips gently on her

cheeks stroking them.

For the first time, William paid proper attention to her details, and she looked somewhat different from her lively daytime self. She looked gentle and meek, curled up in the blanket, resembling a little
cat.
Without much thought, he slowly took off his suit and decided to remove his shirt too. He lay beside Marjorie on the bed.
There was only one blanket, so William lightly pulled some of it off Amelia’s hands, covering himself.
In the beginning, William had no plans of doing anything. He had not initially intended to do anything and all he wanted was to sleep. But Amelia seemed to be cold and, subconsciously, moved closer to the source of warmth while still asleep.
After that, probably because she felt like the clothes she was wearing were too uncomfortable, she
took them off.
William had expected that. He knew Amelia hated to sleep with so many layers of clothes, but he didn’t expect her to take off the clothes in the middle of her sleep and remain in just her underwear. Not that he was complaining. He loved the fact that they had less clothing on them.
After that, Amelia went ahead to hug William, wrapping her body around his. It seemed like she thought of William as a giant stuffed animal.
This pleased William and he was about to embrace her even closer when she mumbled in her sleep.
“Xavier, I miss you…‘

Upon hearing that name, William momentarily froze and he could feel a chill running down his spine. Xavier was a name he had never heard before. Could it be that Amelia already got a lover for real? No wonder she insisted on getting a divorce, she had been cheating on him.
The atmosphere in the room instantly grew colder because of that name, and Amelia had no idea what it was she had done.
“Who is Xavier?” William asked, annoyed and confused. He never thought Amelia would do that to him. He keeps getting surprised these days.
However, Amelia was deep in her sleep and didn’t hear him. She smiled and it seemed like she was having a good dream, but this only got William even angrier. How could she sleep so peacefully after putting him in turmoil?
He wasn’t going to allow that. No, he couldn’t. And with that resolution, William shook Amelia awake.
Amelia roused from her sleep, annoyed that her sleep had just been interrupted. She opened her eyes and found herself looking into William’s furious gaze. But something else caught her attention even
more. Both of them were practically naked.
“Why aren’t you wearing clothes?”
Amelia had a terrified look as she stared at the man in front of her, and Amelia wasn’t surprised by

his answer. As usual, he brought up talks about marital duties, pissing her off even more.
It was truly ridiculous. After two years of not caring what happened, but now he wanted a change
after she demanded a divorce.
“Don’t you ever get sick of that line? Plus, we’ll be getting a divorce soon, and I don’t think you need to push yourself.”
As she spoke, Amelia wrapped herself in the blanket and maintained a safe distance away from William not caring about whatever it was he thought.
