Moonville Series 1: Secret Lovers

Chapter 62

Everything is back to normal again in CPRU. Regular classes have resumed, and the next thing that the students are dealing with is the review week for the finals next week.

And since everything is back to normal again, Richard is hoping that he and Alex will be back to the way they were as well. He's not that dumb to not feel that Alex has been avoiding him the whole week last week, except during the opening program on the first day. But after that, since lunch time they have not been together. Alex has joined her friends, and eventually they separated from their group altogether.

He understands that she missed her friends, but he also missed her especially since the past weeks, they have not hung out that much. Both of them are busy with the projects and requirements they need to submit. Alex is so busy she gets in the class almost late every day. And after class, she immediately gets out to attend to her projects.

That's why Richard is so excited to come to class that morning. At last, they will be back to how they used to be. All their projects were submitted. Their schedule is back to normal, so Alex won't have the chance to be with her friends again. He feels kind of guilty about that last one because he kind of sounds like a possessive and selfish person. But he's just making up for the times they are not together. After this, maybe Alex can get back to her friends again. He's actually hoping to join them sometimes so that he can get close to her friends as well.

He looked at the door, quite confused why Alex has not yet come. Their class is about to start, and she seems to not be over yet the busy weeks. Is she still doing her projects? But she should have submitted them before the intramural week. This week is dedicated to reviewing for the exams week. At least that's what he learned from his classmates who have been students in CPRU for quite some time.

Anyway, he has a lot of spare time so he can help her with her unfinished projects. This is so she can also concentrate on the review week for the finals.

Alex arrived just in time before their professor entered their classroom. She sat down in the front row, making Richard think that she did that because the class is about to start and she needs to settle down immediately. Although, he has reserved a seat beside him just like what they used to do.

And so, they are not together for the first class. Everything is back to normal, but Richard feels like he and Alex is not back to how they were before. Or, is that their new normal, to not sit together in class? Maybe... but he doesn't like that idea. The class seemed boring for Richard, and it seems like he didn't learn anything. His mind is focused on Alex alone, and his eyes glanced at her multiple times. Oh well, he can learn their lesson later at home by reading his textbook, and of course, there's Google that you can always rely on.

After the class, he immediately went to the front row to talk to Alex. But what confused him is that Alex seems to be hastening out of the room. She knows he's also on that class, so why does it seem like she doesn't even want to talk to him? He didn't even see her searching for him, like she's not even interested in looking for him.

He was able to follow her anyway. Fortunately, he was able to get out of the classroom fast as well. But what confused her more is that she's not even responding to him calling her. "Alex!"

She just continued walking like no one is calling her name.

"Alex!" He run to reach her. He blocked her way to stop her from getting away. "Alex."

She looked at him. "Richard."

He smiled. "Hi!"

"Sorry, I'm in a hurry." She started walking past him.

Richard grabbed her arm to stop her. "Wait!"

"Richard, please! I have to go!" She struggled to get loose.

Richard began to wonder why she's reacting as such. The way she struggles seems like he's kidnapping or abducting her. Why is she reacting that intensely towards him? He let her arm go. "I just wanna talk to you."

She looked away. "I just need to do a lot of things. Sorry."

"I can help you," he offered. "My projects are done, so I have spare time-"

"I'm okay. Thanks."

He gazed at her. It seems like there's something happening that he doesn't like.

"I'm sorry Richard. I have to go-"

"Do we have a problem?"

Alex was stunned.

"Tell me, did I do something wrong?" Richard asked. "Alex, I feel like you're avoiding me."

She didn't answer, but she also did not leave.

"I just want us to come back to where we used to be. These past weeks, we didn't get to hang out that much. I mean, we're together but we're still apart. We don't even talk to each other. We mingle with other people." "So, you noticed."

Was it bitterness that he sensed in her voice? Richard was taken aback.

Alex's expression was bitter, too. "You also noticed that we are always with other people. We watch the intramural events with another company. We eat lunch with other friends. We do our projects with other people as well." "Yes, but I understand," he said. "I know you miss your friends that's why you are with them the whole week."

"What? Hah!" Alex was full of disbelief.

Which Richard could not understand. But he did not dwell on it much more. "They are your friends, so I understand why you want to spend the whole week with them."

He looked at Alex and tried to decipher what she wants to imply.

"You never did understand," Alex said with finality.

He's starting to become impatient. "What do you want me to understand? Alex, it's hard to guess."

"But I thought you're smart? Why don't you analyze what happened? Do you really not know anything? You did not hear anything?" She's starting to look impatient.

Heard anything? Richard contemplated. The only thing that he can remember hearing is... "I'm not Bryan de Vera, and I can never be Bryan de Vera." He suddenly felt bad. Alex was stunned. She gazed at him.

"I can never be a perfect boyfriend, Alex. I can never do what Bryan is doing. But I promise to do my best-"

"You really never did understand!" Alex walked out.

"What should I understand?" He really cannot understand her. "Alex! Alex!"

But it was too late. She's gone. He's confused. He's lost.

What on earth has he done? He's very clueless. He doesn't know what he did, so he doesn't know what to do about it... Or maybe, he knows what he needs to do.

His next class was supposed to be at the School of Physical Sciences, but he turned to the other direction and instead headed to Business School.
