Chapter 59
Just as agreed upon, Angel drove Bryan's car when they went home that afternoon. Alex was with them, and they first went to the Martinez residence. Then Bryan will drive his car to his own home after. "We're here!" Angel turned off the engine. "It's nice driving your car."
Bryan smiled. "One of the perks of having a girlfriend who knows how to drive."
"And who lives in the same village as you," Angel added.
The three went out of the car, and Angel and Bryan said their goodbyes to each other.
"Bye, Bryan," Alex said after.
"Uhm, Alex..."
"Hmn?"
"Can we talk?"
Alex looked at her sister. Angel just shrugged.
"I'll wait for you at the porch." Angel proceeded to their porch on their main door of their house.
"So... what gives?" Alex asked Bryan when it's just the two of them.
"I just want to know if you're okay."
She gazed at him.
"I'm aware of what's happening between you and Richard not because your ate told me about it, but because I can sense it. I know you've been avoiding him. I can feel that you go with your friends not just because it's been a while since you've been together. I know you're doing that because you want to stay away from Richard. And I know you're having a hard time pretending that you're happy with it. I know this is not what you want. Knowing you, you're in love with Richard as much as he does for you. And this intramural week, it could have been an opportunity for the both of you to be together. But you're hanging out with your friends instead. You're avoiding him."
"Bryan, whatever you observed, please just keep it to yourself. I don't want it to look like I or we rely on you and my sister too much. You see, I know that that should be our responsibility. You should not be burdened." "Yes, but if we could help-"
"No, you can't," Alex snapped in. "I mean, it's between me and Richard. Whatever you do, you could not fix this."
Bryan looked at her, and in the end, conceded. "Okay, if that's what you want. But, remember that I'm always here for you. Me and your Ate Angel."
Alex smiled. "I know that. And thanks, Bryan. Thank you for... for being there. For making me feel that you care. Before, it's just me and Ate who go through our problems together. But now, you're here." Bryan smiled. "It's a pleasure."
"And thank you for loving my ate. There could never be a better choice for her than you."
"And there could never be a better choice for me, too."
"I know," Alex said. "Kuya Bryan."
Bryan chuckled. "That sounds great. No one ever called me Kuya."
"I always wanted to have a big brother. I also get tired of bonding with my sister sometimes, especially if she has mood swings."
Bryan laughed at what she said.
"I wanted to have a kuya who will defend me. Someone who will fight for me, who will protect me when my boyfriend hurt me. And now, you're here and you're doing just exactly that." "Well, you can call me Kuya Bryan all you want."
"Okay, Kuya Bryan." Alex smiled. "You better go now. So that you can take a rest. You have a game tomorrow, right?"
"Yeah... Okay, I'll go now."
"Bye."
Bryan waved at Angel before getting inside his car. Alex then waited for his car to leave before proceeding to the porch where Angel is waiting.
"That conversation seemed intense," Angel said.
"Well, he told me to talk to you because his head is already aching because of your weirdness."
"Right."
Alex smiled. "I'm glad that it was Bryan de Vera who became your boyfriend. He's worthy to be my kuya."

"And that's really the qualification, huh?"
She grinned. "Of course! That's the utmost priority. He needs to be a good big brother to me before he can be your boyfriend."
"Well, it's good that Bryan de Vera is like that."
Alex was about to say something when her phone buzzed. It was her Facebook messenger notification. It says Richard has a message for her. 'Hi!' That is all that was written. "Who's that?"
Alex looked at Angel. "A high school classmate. It's the birthday of one of my classmates, so the rest greeted him in our group chat," she lied. "Let's go, Ate."
They went in their house together.

Alex spent the next days with her friends, and she's aware that because of them, she somehow forgot her problems and whatever is bugging her. She was able to enjoy the events of the CPRU Intramural.
They are all out supportive with Bryan's basketball team. Even though she belongs to a different school, she still supports the Green Tigers. Anyway, the Blue Dolphins lost on their first game, so she can now support whoever team she likes. After every game, she no longer goes with his sister. She goes with her friends and make sure they go somewhere else to avoid the people she doesn't want to see. Richard and Kim always goes with Angel and Bryan, so Alex makes sure they won't be with them.
But her friends hated that idea, especially Issay. She also wants to be with Bryan because, well, she's her crush.
"Issay, don't bother going with Bryan de Vera. There's nothing you can get from him," Steffi said to his sulking friend. Instead of going to The Coffee Club where Bryan and Angel went, they are now at the school cafeteria.
"I just want to see him! I'm happy just to see him, be with him, even though I know he can't be mine," Issay said.
"That will be more painful," Sam said.
"Even so!" She yelled like a child having tantrums. "Why don't we just go with them? Bryan even pays for their food."

"How about some modesty?" asked Sam.
"Come to think of it, Issay has a point," Steffi said.
Issay was glad that Steffi agreed with her. "See? I told yah!"
"You as well?" Sam asked.
"I'll just buy you food," Alex finally said. She's been quiet and her face is so serious.
The three looked at her, but she just continued playing the Coke in can on the table as if nothing happened.
"Girl, correct me if I'm wrong, okay?" Steffi said to Alex. "Why do I feel like you're avoiding Ate Angel? Did you two fight?"
"Yeah!" Issay said. "You always tell us to go somewhere different from where they go. You also refuse whenever they ask us to go with them, as if we already have plans, which we don't."
"So Girl, do you have a problem with Ate Angel?" Steffi asked again.
"Did she fight you?" Issay asked. "I knew it! Your sister is really grumpy and grouchy."
"Issay!" Sam chided.
Issay was about to reason out. "But-"
But Alex answered and said, "I don't have a problem with Ate... She's actually the best big sister in the world. She's not my problem."
"Then, who?" Steffi asked. "Tell us. Who knows? We might be able to help you."
"That's right," Sam agreed. "We're your friends, remember?"
"Right!" Issay said.
Alex sighed. Maybe she really needs to tell them the truth, to ease the burden she's feeling so that she can breathe more easily. Though she can confide with her sister, it's still better if there are other people she can tell her secrets with. Anyway, she's sure that whatever she tells these three, they will keep it to themselves only.
"It's not Ate Angel or Bryan that I'm avoiding. It's Richard Quinto... and Kim Agustin."
As expected, the three were shocked at what she said.
