From Ashes to Hope>> Chapter 7

I gathered all my strength and spat on her rash-covered face.

My chest heaved with each angry breath.

I shouted, "Stop pointing fingers at my daughter, you have no right! You're

trying to frame her based on unclear security footage, are you that desperate to marry John? I can step aside, but apologize to my daughter first, admit what you did behind my back!"

Seeing me treat Raina like this, John's pent-up anger exploded like a

powder keg.

His face turned crimson, he took a menacing step forward, his heavy footsteps shaking the floor.

He pointed at me, his finger like a sharp thorn, aimed at the tip of my nose.

"How could you do this?!" he roared, "You've

gone too far!"

His voice echoed through the apartment, each word laced with fury.

Looking at his anger, my own rage

intensified.

I slammed the phone onto the floor, shattering it into pieces, its components

scattering everywhere.

I pointed at John and shouted, "Look closely, that's not my daughter! You're

being played by this woman, and you're blaming me!"

I lifted my head, trying to hold back tears, but they flowed freely down my cheeks.

"Why don't you believe me? Why don't you believe our daughter? She's gone, and you're still slandering her!" I cried.

Raina stood beside John, watching my pain, a smirk playing on her lips.

The smirk cracked her innocent facade, briefly revealing her inner ugliness.

But she quickly resumed her pitiful expression, tugging John's arm gently, her movements unnatural.

"John, don't be angry," she said softly, "She's just trying to protect her child, I understand a mother's feelings."

She paused, blinking her eyes, choosing her words carefully, then continued

in a slightly aggrieved tone, "But it's too much for her to yell at me and spit on me like this without any evidence. And she still won't admit her daughter's mistake, she's blaming us, as if we're deliberately framing her. She's clearly trying to avoid responsibility."

Her eyes gleamed with cunning, like a fox lurking in the shadows, trying to hide its triumphant smirk.

My heart leaped into my throat, an unprecedented fear and grief washing

over me.

Ignoring the searing pain in my stomach, I reached out with trembling

hands, trying to grasp the wisp of smoke, to soothe my daughter's soul. The pale powder was stark against the sunlight, like the wounds in my heart exposed to the cruel world.

Each particle of ash seemed to carry Lily's essence, yet they were mercilessly scattered on the cold ground.

Tears blurred my vision as I looked at the spilled ashes, my heart aching beyond words.

I felt like my soul had been ripped out, the intense shock numbing me to

physical pain, my eyes fixated on the glaring grey-white.

It was the last trace of my daughter in this world.

Each particle of ash seemed to carry her breath, a crystallization of her

laughter and tears.

My scream echoed through the hallway, a desperate cry from the depths of

my soul.

Ignoring the stabbing pain in my stomach, I scrambled to my knees, like a madwoman, and threw myself over the spilled ashes, my hands frantically searching the floor, like someone desperately seeking hope in the darkness. My fingers scraped against the ground, trying to gather the ashes, as if I could protect Lily from further harm.

Each particle was as precious as my life, I couldn't let them be scattered on the cold ground.

John, however, remained indifferent, his chin held high, his jawline as hard

as his heart.

He barked orders at the bodyguards, his voice cold and decisive, devoid of hesitation or pity.

John lowered his voice, his words laced with a chilling threat, Where's Lily?

Tell me! This is your last chance."

His eyes flashed with menace, like a wolf cornering its prey.

But I was oblivious, frozen, my eyes fixated on Lily's ashes.

Seeing my lack of response, John nodded fiercely, muttering. Fine, you won

His voice was filled with resentment, trying to vent his anger through these

words.

He grabbed the bottle of rubbing alcohol from a bodyguard, its surface

reflecting the dim hallway light.

Then, he poured it onto the ground without hesitation, the alcohol flowing like an icy stream, mixing with the ashes into a muddy paste.

He bent down, his movements rough, and scooped up a handful of the ash- mud mixture, the sight jarring in his hand.

Then, he smeared it on my face with brutal force, wanting to inflict pain on
