Moonlit Fur Chronicles: Rising Moon

Chapter 16 Date Night

Quinn took a deep breath, “How do you feel? What made you decide to tell her?” I sighed, “If it happened to me, I’d want to know. How do I feel? I don’t know how I feel but my anxiety is screaming at me. She handled the news really well, I half expected her to hit me. Her guy obviously wanted to…but he didn’t.” Quinn listened to me and asked, “What are you going to do now?” I shrugged, “They asked for some privacy to talk about it. I left them down at the lake. They should be okay. It’s a straight line from the lake to the house.” Quinn lifted her eyebrow, “You know they don’t look like they’d be okay out there. They are city people.”

“Maybe I should send Kai to check on them in a half hour or so,” I replied after careful consideration. Quinn nodded. She smiled provocatively at me, “So where are you taking me tonight for our date?” I smiled mischievously to hide the fact I hadn’t thought about it yet, “Where do you think I’m going to take you?” She made a show of it, she rubbed her chin and eyed me. I saw the metaphorical gears spin in her eyes. There weren’t that many fancy restaurants in the area. Peyton and Sawyer sauntered up to the house. Quinn and I watched them and waited for them to speak.

“We are still deliberating. We want to get to know the rest of the people here, the rest of the pack,” Peyton answered our unasked question. “Sure thing,” Quinn responded, “I’m sorry about my behavior last night. I was still working through nearly losing Reese.” Peyton thanked her and Quinn led them into the house to chat with the rest of the pack. I followed them after a minute or two and stepped into the kitchen and began lunch. I listened absent-mindedly as I sliced tomatoes and a head of lettuce for cold cuts. Peyton talked to Kai about life in the pack and what living with so many people was like. She explained that we had been through so much together that we were more like family instead of random people.

Kai shared her experiences with Peyton everything from Chad the abusive alpha to Artemis the manipulative insane alpha who hated men with every fiber of her being. She expressed how grateful she was for Quinn and I for our efforts to keep her and her brother safe. Peyton listened intently. River and Casey came in the front door after a while. They joined the conversation and shared the epic story of the night that the three of us first met. I had mistaken them for enemies and beat River in a fight only to have Casey walk away to care for River. Casey commended my bravery and instinct to protect my friend against perceived threats.

I called everyone to come get their lunch. Phoenix and Ellis emerged from the basement and grabbed plates. Once we all had our sandwiches and began to eat, Peyton asked Phoenix about how she liked living here and being part of the pack. She swallowed hard and locked eyes with me, “Be honest,” I spoke softly. Quinn looked extraordinarily interested in her sandwich. “Um,” Phoenix cleared her throat, “I’m grateful to have a place here, it’s been a little bumpy recently. Since our failed relationship, I kinda feel like I should move on.”

My heart leapt into my throat. I knew that Phoenix felt sad and alone after the messy break up, but I had no idea that she felt so strongly. A part of my heart still loved her and wanted her to be safe and happy. If she felt like she had to move on, I would do my best to support her. I glanced sideways at Quinn, to her credit, she kept her eyes on her sandwich and her cheeks grew bright red. The room was very quiet, only a few people continued to chew their sandwiches. Everyone knew what happened between Quinn, Phoenix and I, it was very hard to keep secrets among family members.

Drew cleared his throat and offered to share his experiences as part of my pack and family. He explained how his pack was killed by hunters and his best friend Robin had been tortured to the point of insanity. Robin whined and shook out her fur, she knew we were talking about her. She preferred to live life as a wolf. Overall my wolves were happy with their lifestyle and my leadership. My heart ached for Phoenix, it felt terrible to see her in pain. “There’s a few other members of our little group that you should meet later tonight. They’re uh…nocturnal,” I mentioned to Peyton and Sawyer. “I’ll introduce you to them after Quinn and I get back.”

Quinn and I took an hour nap before we got ready for our date. I was still and decided where I would take her. She dug around in the closet to find the perfect outfit while I slipped into my favorite dress, the black form fit with a chain belt. Quinn turned around and saw me, I flashed her a smile. She crossed the room and planted her lips firmly on mine. Her hand slipped behind my head while her other arm wound its way around my waist. My heartbeat quickened and my head swam, her lips were magical. She pulled her head away ever so slightly and murmured to me breathlessly, “Damn, baby, you’re gorgeous!” A shiver ran down my mine, I wanted her to kiss me again. I didn’t want to go out anymore, I wanted her to take me then and there.

“Reese,” she whispered, her voice hot and heavy. “I think I changed my mind.” She gazed longingly into my eyes and pressed her body into mine. Her touch made me a little woozy in that sweet wonderful way. “What have you changed your mind about,” my words were soft and sultry. “I don’t want to go out for dinner anymore,” she replied and kissed my neck. I gasped as her soft lips parted and her teeth gently grazed the sensitive skin just inches below my ear. My arms reacted on their own and squeezed her waist and held her tight against me. “It seems like you don’t want to go out either,” she quietly giggled. “No,” I purred softly, “No, I don’t.” A wide seductive grin appeared on her lips, “Tell me. Tell me what you want, Baby.” She kissed my neck again and I let out a quiet whimper. “Tell me,” she softly instructed.

“I…” My voice was thick and heavy. My head swam with anticipation, her touch intoxicated me. “Quinn,” I breathed. “I want you. I need you.” Her nimble fingers unzipped the back of my dress and ran down my spine. I moaned loudly and felt my thighs moisten. “Please,” I begged her. “Don’t tease me anymore.” She kissed my collarbone and replied, “What if I say no? What if I keep teasing you?” She slipped the shoulder strap of my dress from my shoulder and pressed her lips on my shoulder. My body shuddered with anticipation and desire. “I might turn the tables and start teasing you.” She eyed me mischievously, “Is that so?” I nodded and pinned her wrists behind her waist and kissed. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” I grinned at her and dragged my tongue down her neck and onto her chest. “Keep going baby. That feels so good!” she exclaimed. I gazed at her greedily and obeyed.
