Chapter CHAPTER TWO
I was taken to the healing room and later diagnosed with functional pain. The Alpha had just rejected me so calling him to heal me was out of the options. He didn't care if I died or lived. I was given different painkillers but none seemed to be working.
"Lila, your sickness seems serious and you will need the Alpha to heal you," the healer said.
"What!" I exclaimed. "I'd rather die in pain than let him heal me."
As if he hadn't heard me, he continued, "Stefan has gone to call him and he'll be here any moment," the healer said ignoring what I had just said and leaving the room to his chambers.
I was determined to die in pain rather than shamefully let him heal me. I sighted the poisonous potion opposite me.
I then heard voices. It was Lucas, he was in the healer's chambers. I listened carefully.
"I thought I made it clear I didn't want to be disturbed especially when it has to do with that weakling!" Lucas said. Anyone could feel the intensity of the anger in his voice but the men around him remained calm. If they were going to get him to listen to them, they need to be calm.
"Your mate, Lila is sick and has been given different pain killers but none seem to be working, are you not going to do anything? Are you just going to sit there, pretending like she does not exist?" the healer asked. "What exactly has that got to do with me?" Lucas queried.
"Lila is sick and has been given different pain killers but none seem to be working. You need to heal her." He repeated "I'm not deaf, I heard you loud and clear. There's no way that's going to happen. Have you tried the ancient antidote? Mandrake root? Morphine?" Lucas asked.
"None is working, you are the only hope she has" the healer answered. "We can't just leave her to die. She is a member of this pack, she was born into this pack and her parents fought for this pack till their last breath. She is also your destined..."
"Enough!" Lucas interrupted "Let's go to her".
I heard their footsteps approaching where I was. I couldn't move my body. I had tried several times to reach the poisonous potion opposite me but I couldn't. I kept groaning in pain. I seriously needed healing but, I'd prefer joining my parents than letting the Alpha heal me. There's nothing to live for here. I knew he was coming already. I lay helplessly in agony. The door opened and Lucas entered while Stefan remained at the entrance.
"Your hands," he said, stretching his hands forward.
"If I could move them I'd have died long before you got here," I said.
"I won't tolerate any form of rudeness from you Lila," he said with a tone of anger.
He placed his hands on mine and I felt this electrifying sensation all around my body. His eyes turned red and as soon as he removed his hands from mine, he transformed and hit the ground so hard it broke into pieces. Stefan rushed in and he changed back to his human form. I felt my body going numb again.
"What happened" Stefan asked, "it didn't work" Lucas replied, "Impossible!" Stefan exclaimed. My eyes widened. Why didn't it work? What had happened to me?
The healer was summoned immediately. Stefan kept pacing around the healing room. Lucas stood still, lost in thought that he didn't even notice the healer enter. "What happened?" The healer inquired. "It didn't work. I tried to take her pain away but it didn't work," Lucas responded.
"Why do you think that would happen"? the healer asked.
"I don't know, it has never happened before, why is hers different, why is she always different!" Lucas yelled, hitting the wall and causing it to break outrightly. He storms off to his office and Stefan follows.
Why do I always have to be different? I wondered with tears rolling down my cheeks. I turned to the healer and asked "Will I ever get well?"
"Of course," he responded and left me alone in the room.
I closed my eyes deep in thought and suddenly the door opened. I smelt my mum around, "Mum? Is that you?"
"Yes my darling Lila," she responded. I tried getting up to give her a hug forgetting I couldn't get up.
"Mum, where have you been? Where's Dad? I need you, everyone thinks I'm a failure, my life has been a mess since you left, I..."
"One at a time, dear" she interrupted. I burst into tears and she held me close.
"Please don't leave me again," I begged amidst tears.
"I never left you, my dear. I've always been with you and I always will. I didn't give birth to a failure. You are strong Lila and very soon you'll discover that version of yourself".
"I'm not strong, Mum, I can't even move right now. Even the Alpha can't heal me" I said.
"The Alpha can't heal you because you never wanted him to heal you. The healing power works with the mind and your mind is resisting the healing. You have to open up your mind and receive healing, my darling".
I opened my eyes to Rieka beside me. Where did my mother go? Was that a dream? It felt so real. Rieka smiled at me and asked how I was feeling now. I said I was fine knowing deep down I wasn't.
"It's ok if you can't talk, just relax," she said.
"What do you mean I can't talk? I'm answering you," I responded but then I realized I couldn't hear my voice, I only felt my mouth moving.
"Is your voice gone"? Rieka asked and I nodded in affirmation. She rushed out.
Stefan and the healer entered. I was immediately given the mythical antidote. It still didn't work. Stefan assured me it would work but might take time. Three days later, there was still no sign of it working. I was in utmost pain and agony. My body rejected all painkillers and antidotes. Maybe my parents wanted me to come join them. I had disappointed them enough.
