Chapter 50
Nathan never seems to stop grumbling. His face is irritated, and at times, his anger flares up. If he didn't remember that this was a party with many guests, he would have probably dragged his wife to their room. Or better yet, taken her home and dismissed all the guests. He doesn't care if he suddenly goes viral with headlines like, "Host Throws Out Guests Because Wife's Wedding Dress Attracted Too Much Attention." He doesn't care!
As long as no one stares at Tasya with so much interest like they're doing now.
"What's bothering you, Nathan?" Tasya asks, lifting her dress slightly. The party has ended, but there's still a meal event with close family members, including Seira's family, whom Nathan intentionally invited to join them after the party. Apart from Robert, who is an important client for Faldom, it seems that Naina's relationship with Seira and Olivia can't be taken lightly. Although Nathan often observes, both Olivia and Naina never seem to get along.
Like now, they're arguing about the ice cream served right after the main course. Their voices can be heard all the way to the table where Nathan is sitting with Tasya. The newlyweds are seated separately, as Nathan put it, to make things more cordial. But when Nathan thinks about it, when have he and Tasya ever been distant? Almost never.
Back to Tasya, who now fills Nathan's field of vision. "Can you sit down properly?"
"I can," Tasya replies with a wide grin. "You didn't seem interested in helping, so I thought I'd handle all the trouble myself. At most, you'll be noted down as a disobedient husband by the angels."
"Fine by me," Nathan retorts in annoyance. Nevertheless, he makes sure Tasya is comfortable. He slightly adjusts the long fabric wrapped around his wife's arms. "Can't this one be opened first?" Nathan asks curiously, his eyes locked onto the ribbon. "So it doesn't disrupt your meal, Tasya."
"It can, actually. Please help me open it," Tasya says, shifting her arm to make it easier for Nathan.
"Why is it so complicated to wear this dress? Couldn't it be something simpler? It didn't seem like this yesterday. Why is it different?" Despite the continuous stream of words, Nathan's hands continue to work on untying the ribbon. It stretches out as an ornament, elegantly decorating Tasya's attire during their wedding. He calls one of the wedding organizers to tidy up parts of Tasya's dress, including helping to remove the long veil. It leaves her with a beautiful bun adorning her hair and a strand of pearls still embedded around her head.
Beautiful, no doubt about it. Nathan admits that.
He just disagrees with the dress being too revealing. In his opinion, it is. Even though it's layered with a bolero or whatever it's called that, in Nathan's eyes, only slightly covers Tasya's bare shoulders. How could it not? The dress blatantly displays Tasya's cleavage.
"You said the last dress I tried on was good," Tasya grumbles in protest. "Ever since I walked out of the dressing room, you've been sulking. It's like I've been so annoying today, right?"
"That's not it, Tasya," Nathan sighs deeply. "It's all because of the dress you're wearing." Nathan's eyes scan his wife's entire figure as she sits next to him.
"Not pretty, huh?" Tasya suddenly feels self-conscious. Everyone who came congratulated her, and there was no shortage of compliments. Even a few clients who had met Tasya during business meetings when she accompanied Nathan didn't hesitate to show their admiration. Not to mention that quite a few people felt like every pair of eyes in the venue was focused on her.
"Beautiful, Tasya. Absolutely gorgeous, to the point where I'm wondering why you're so enchanting today."
Tasya's lips curl in annoyance. "So, I've been ugly all this time?"
Nathan bursts into laughter. He gently strokes the side of Tasya's head. "Eat first, okay? You haven't eaten since earlier, have you?"
"I did while getting ready. According to Koni, I had to eat while changing clothes to keep my strength."
"No wonder it took so long," Nathan chuckles, followed by a hearty laugh.
"Long? From where?" Tasya responds indignantly. "You think this dress isn't heavy? My makeup also took a while to make sure I looked good and flawless. So that our wedding photos would be aesthetic."
Nathan bursts into laughter even more. He tidies up Tasya's unruly strand of hair, enjoying how her beautiful face changes expressions. "Since when did you start thinking about all this? Why aren't you answering?"
"You're weird," Tasya playfully pushes Nathan's hand away. Her face blushes even more vividly. Usually, she would sit next to Nathan and sometimes speak half-whispered, discussing important people who attended the meeting. The involvement of many people who came and their contributions. She didn't want Nathan to accidentally mispronounce someone's name and their position from another company. It could tarnish Faldom's reputation. However, their closeness feels different now. It's much more intimate and exhilarating. Maybe not for Nathan, but for Tasya, this isn't good for her heart. Her eyes quickly scan the surroundings, afraid that someone might be watching. Although, in reality, it shouldn't matter, right? After all, Nathan and Tasya have just solemnized a relationship much more sacred than being engaged. Right?
"Weird how?" Nathan furrows his brows. "I'll call the waiter, okay? Do you want steak? Or curry rice?"
"Just steak, Nathan. I had curry rice with Naina earlier."
Nathan nods right away. He requests from one of the restaurant waitstaff to serve what Tasya wants. "Naina didn't cause a scene while you were changing your dress, did she?" "When can Naina ever stay quiet?" Tasya laughs. "I'm glad Naina is happy with this party."
"Yeah, finally Daddy Raptor has a partner."
"One without red hair, right?" Tasya jokes.
"Ehm... Turns out, the black hair isn't leaving my mind. Lost to the red one."
Tasya smiles faintly. "There's no more photo session, right?"
"Why, though?" Nathan doesn't care if a few people eavesdrop on them. Maybe they're curious because the newlyweds aren't shy about showing affection in public. With his chin resting on his hand, Nathan's eyes remain fixed on his wife's face.
"I was looking up information about laser eye surgery for reducing my nearsightedness. Interested?"
"For what?" Tasya moistens her throat with a glass of cold syrup available. She's slightly nervous being stared at by Nathan like this.
"So you won't have to wear glasses. I like the color of your eyes today."
"Soft lenses, Nathan."
"I know," Nathan says with a chuckle. "Eye surgery, so you won't have to wear glasses too often. Only at the office so no one knows how beautiful my wife is without those owl glasses."
Tasya chuckles. "We'd better eat, Nathan. The waiter has brought our dishes." That's true. Tasya spots a waiter with a tray carrying their orders.
"Ah, you're no fun. I just praised you, you know."
"Praise is only temporary and can't make me happy, Nathan."
"Forever, Tasya."
"We've only been married for a few hours, where does 'forever' come from?"
