Miss Marvelous: Chaotic Summer

Chapter 14

Same team? How does she look like a superhero? She looks like a villain.

I stared at her in confusion.

“I know this sounds crazy, but I really am here to help you to protect these relics” explained the mysterious girl, before setting me back down again.

“So, are you one of those special people who lived in the basement?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

The girl hesitated for a moment before she said yes.

“Okay, umm what’s the plan?“.

“We need to kill all of the Muskcores before any of them gets a chance to leave the campgrounds. We also need to protect the relics from them too”.

“That way they don’t become even more powerful?” I asked, impaling a Muskcore (AKA: those massive muscular ugly human-like creatures), that was charging towards me.

“Exactly. Stay alert, they’re starting to make their way up here” commented the mysterious girl as she fought against two large Muskcores, fighting back to back with me.

I fought hard against the wave of Muskcores that flooded into the room, that was once spotless.

I impaled, beheaded, and slashed throats of whatever Muskcores ran in my direction.

The long wave was starting to die down when I could feel the rush of adrenaline flowing through my veins, giving my exhausted body new energy.

Wow, I never felt so alive, I thought as I killed off a few more Muskcores using my powers.

“Hey, you’re bleeding!!“.

I looked down and saw a long nasty open cut running down my left leg, with some blood already pooling on the ground.

“Go find someone to patch you up, I can finish the job” instructed the mysterious girl as she impaled three Muskcores at once with three of the four robotic arms that are attached to her back.

“But I don’t feel any pain,“.

“Because you’re in shock” she replied, glancing into my dilating pupils as she continued to fight.

She’s obviously right.

I used my new energy to get back down to the screwed up foyer and found my dad, crouched under the long office desk that was once used to offer extra help to any employees at the SRC.

Once he saw me, he offered to patch me up and I gladly accepted, for I was growing weak from blood loss.

I went under the desk and leaned against the backboard of it, with my legs lying straight out in front of me.

“That’s a nasty cut you got from the battle, but it’ll heal in no time” said Joe, after getting out the First Aid kit, cleaning and bandaging up my wound.

Once I was cleaned up, he helped me up to my feet.

“You’re good to keep fighting, just don’t put--“.

Before Joe could finish his sentence, a black pole of a lamp post was shot into his chest, impaling the pastor and making him lose his balance.

With the strength I had left, I caught him and gently laid him on the ground behind the desk.

“Miss Marvelous, go save the people who need you. Don’t worry about me; I’m just another casualty”.

“Dad...” was all I could say, as tears began to fall down my face, quickly taking off the black mask around my eyes.

“Vanessa? It’s been you...“.

“Yes, Dad. It has. I should’ve--“.

Joe put a finger up to my lips.

“Well done, good and faithful servant. Continue to serve”.

And just like that, the foster dad that’s taken me into his care since I was five died in my arms.

I let out a few more tears before I killed the last Muskcore in the lobby, slashing its throat with the thought about how one tried to kill me but ended up killing my dad.

After I got myself to calm down, I took my dad’s phone, wallet and truck keys out of his jean pocket and walked out of the ruined SRC building.

As I dialed a phone number on the cellphone, my superhero outfit magically turned back into my casual shorts and a t-shirt within a few seconds from the Ice Diamond bracelet.

“Yeah, I need you to come here. Something big happened”.
