Midnight Mistletoe

Chapter Promise

Katherine Bennett

Taking the last bit of my breakfast, Derek removes the tray bed table from my lap to put it back on the dresser where it was before I woke up.

As his grey eyes are on me, I know what’s happening inside his head. I saw the same expression written on his face yesterday.

Derek takes a step toward me with determination.

Instantly, I press my back on the headboard of the bed as if it would put more distance between him and me. “You aren’t serious!”

Without uttering a single word, he confidently takes a step forward.

“Derek?” I ask.

A surge of panic rises up inside me because I know this time, no one is sleeping as everyone is awake within this house. At the same time, I also experience a sense of excitement about what comes next with him.

“Your parents and mine are letterly downstairs. If we make a single sound, they will know what’s going on between us.” I try one last time to reason with him. Even if deep inside, I pray he will continue with his ‘task.’

“Then we better stay silent until this is over,” Derek suggests while he’s already on the bed.

He pulls my legs, spreading them so his head nests between my thighs.

I arch my back, biting my hand when Derek takes his first lick between the lips of my center chore.

My toes automatically curl in response to his maneuver over me.

“Fuck, freckles! Your flavour is intoxicating to me. I could do this all day.” He grunts while he enters a finger inside me.

“Ungh! Ngh!” A muffled sound comes out of me.

“That’s right, baby.” He inserts a second finger. “Enjoy what I’m giving you.”

With my free hand, I grab his shoulder, digging my fingers. “Der!”

Derek quickens his thrust as his fingers dig into me, and his tongue licks and sucks at the same time. I want to call out his name, but I can’t.

And we both know the reason why.

My entire body shakes as I come, and yet he doesn’t stop until he feels satisfied with what he’s doing.

Derek gets up from the bed while he’s ready to leave the room.

I frown. “Where are you going?”

He turns around with a smirk. “Downstairs, of course.” Derek then licks his lips. “Don’t worry, freckles. I’m not done with you yet.” He threatens as my body shivers, hearing his words. “Today is Christmas Eve, and when everyone is fast asleep, I intend to finish what I started.” He promises and then steps out of my childhood bedroom.

My heart is beating fast.

Will he act on his promises?

I fucking hope so.

Wait!

Did he say it’s Christmas Eve?

I get out of bed to put some clothes on. I selected a dark blue pair of ripped jeans and a light brown knit jumper sweater. I put my hair up in a messy bun.

“Look who decided to greet us with her presence.” My mother says in a joking matter, seeing me placing the tray bed table onto the kitchen counter.

“Good morning, mom.” I greet her with a kiss on the cheek.

“Morning, darling.”

While I greet my father, Jenna, and Ryan, my eyes land on Derek, giving me a secret smile.

I felt my cheeks turn red the minute I understood the meaning of his smile.

“Katherine.” My mother asks for my attention.

I don’t know if I should be grateful or annoyed that she interrupted my little moment with Derek.

“Yes, mom. What can I do for you?”

“Would you mind picking up your grandmother from the nursing home? I have too much to do as I don’t have time to get her myself.”

I miss Nana.

“I wouldn’t mind, but I don’t have my car since I came with Derek.”

Just as I am about to ask her if I can borrow hers, Derek speaks first.

“I don’t mind giving you a lift, freckles.”

I title my head to the side. “You sure you don’t mind? Yesterday, you’ve been gone all day. I thought that you would rather take it easy today.”

He approaches me, bending down his mouth close to my ear. “I’ll do anything for you, freckles.”

He then moves away and winks at me.

Our mother seems to be ecstatic with our little exchange.

As for me, I’m confused. Was his words real, or was he playing the part of the good boyfriend in front of everyone?

Maybe I’m reading too much into it, and Derek truly wants to give me a hand.

As Derek and I slip into our coats, my mother asks, “You do remember where she lives, right?”

“Mm-hmm. It’s not the first time I’m going to see her, you know. I was there when she went to live in the nursing home.

I want to roll my eyes at her lack of trust in me, but I restrain myself.

It’s Christmas Eve, after all.

“You ready?” Derek takes my hand to distract me, and it’s working.

“Be careful, you guys.” Jenna, Derek’s mother, says to us before we step outside.

“We’ll do,” Derek says before he guides me outside.

“My mother was right.” I take my seat in Derek’s vehicle.

“About what?” He wonders.

“Nana will be thrilled when she learns about us.”

He answers by giving me a smile.

Now that we no longer pretend, I’m glad I won’t have to lie to Nana about me and Derek.

“You okay, freckles?”

I look outside as the trees go one by one. “I am,” I answer truthfully.

My phone dings, notifying me I got a message.

Seamus?

What does he want?

I don’t bother to look at what he sends me.

I’ll delete it later.
