Midnight Mistletoe

Chapter Breakfast

Derek Sawyer

As I slowly open my eyes the next morning, I come to the realization that I am, in fact, spooning with Kate.

Did last night really happen?

And then I remember my name imprinted on her right ass cheek.

Just thinking about it, I want to take her again and again as I bury myself inside Katherine.

As a result of my self-restraint, I refrain from doing anything. Freckles must be exhausted with the way our night ended. It was pretty late when we decided to sleep.

I should get up then because if I don’t, I don’t think I’ll be able to stop myself, following my needs to take her right here right now.

Careful not to disturb her peaceful dreams, I gently slip out of bed and stealthily make my way downstairs to have breakfast. I put on a pair of black jeans and a basic grey tee.

While I open the door to step outside the room, I can’t help but take one last glance at Kate. I smile, seeing her sleep so content.

And it’s all thanks to me.

Four weeks ago, my heart shattered into a million pieces when I learned Amanda had cheated on me. Who would have thought that Katherine Bennett, of all people, could be the one to fill the void I’ve been feeling since last night?

If someone had told me this, I would have laughed right in his face, thinking something so preposterous.

I close the door behind me and walk down the stairs.

Inside the kitchen, I find my mother and Amy as they are making breakfast while Hank is reading the newspapers.

“Good morning, son.” My father says, standing behind me.

“When did you get back? I didn’t hear you come in last night.” My mother is curious to know.

“Late last night. Did I wake someone?”

They all shake their heads.

That’s a relief.

It means that Kate and I did a great job not to disturb anyone from their slumber.

What a night!

As my mind replays the event from last night, all I can think about is Kate’s tattoo on her ass.

Shit!

I must stop thinking about it, or I will have a hard-on right in the middle of the kitchen, surrounded by my parents and Kates as they stare at me.

I clear my throat. “So ladies, what’s for breakfast this morning?”

I deserve a slap on the back of my head by my father. “Behave!”

“Geez, Dad! I’m not a teenager anymore for you to do this.” I rub the back of my head with my hand.

“Boy, I’m your father. It’s my job to educate you, whichever age you are. “ He replies. “You little shit.” He mumbles the last part to himself.

“Is Katherine still asleep?” Amy wonders.

I nod my head. “She is.”

“Maybe I should bring her some breakfast.” Her mother wonders.

Freckles is still naked under the sheets. I don’t think she’ll appreciate it if her mother goes and wakes her up in the stage she is in. It would be embarrassing for her if her mother found her like this.

“Why won’t I do that? I take mine upstairs as well.” I smile.

My mother prepares the bed tray table, putting two cups of coffee and two plates full of eggs, bacon, and potatoes.

I take it from my mother’s hands and walk back upstairs.

I don’t know how I did it, but I managed to open the door without making any mess while still holding the bed tray table. I carefully display it on the dresser without spilling it on the floor.

Walking toward the bed, I sit on the side where Kate is sound asleep.

With no hesitation, I lean down to kiss her bare shoulder. “Kate,” I whisper her name over her skin.

“Mmhmm.” She mumbles, still asleep.

I gently brushed aside some of her hair so that I could get a better view of her face. It’s easy to notice the freckles on her skin, as they are quite prominently displayed. “Freckles, time to wake up.”

“Der?” She wonders.

I smirk.

I love that nickname.

Kissing her cheek, I say. “Time to wake up, baby.”

Baby?

Do I have the right to call her that?

For me, what went through between us was more than one night.

Is it the same for Katherine?

Will she act as if nothing happened last night once she wakes up?

She will have a hard time to forget about me since my name is literally written on her ass.

She did say that she wants to get rid of it once she has enough money.

I won’t let her.

Kate opens her eyes. She stretches her arms, yawning. “Derek?”

I’m not looking at her eyes. At this precise moment, I’m distracted since her titts are pointing straight at me.

Katherine quickly looks down and immediately covers herself while her face turns tomato red.

“Freckles, it’s too late to hide yourself from me. Last night, I saw every inch of you. All I have to do is close my eyes.” I do so. “All I have to do is to imagine you naked. Ah, there you are.” I tease her.

She slaps my arm. “Stop it!”

I chuckle, looking at her. I bend down, cupping her face to press my lips with hers. With relief, she doesn’t push me away.

“Your mother made you breakfast.” I point at the tray behind me.

The rumbling sound emanating from her stomach indicates that she’s hungry and needs to eat something.

Before heading out to fetch the food, I lean in and leave a gentle peck on her lips. Once I return, I place the food over her thighs, allowing her to eat.

“Can I ask you a question?” She asks before taking a bite of her eggs.

“Sure. Go ahead.”

Kate puts her hair behind her ear. “I just wanted to know how you felt about what happened between us last night.” She mumbles.

I mess with my beard. “What does it mean for you?” I ask in my turn.

She frowns. “Hey, that’s not fair. I asked first!”

“I’m just messing with you.” I take a deep breath, preparing for what I must say next. “I’m not ready to label what we have, but I’m not ready to let you go either,” I tell the truth.

Kate sighs with relief. “I feel the same way.”

She drinks her coffee. “The bright side is that we no longer have to pretend.” Freckles continues saying.

I smile at her comment.

For the rest of the breakfast, we eat in silence, feeling comfortable with one another.
