Mia's Path

Chapter Went too far

RAINA

Mia was looking at me like I said something in Greek or another foreign language. But I hadn’t, right? She could certainly see the brothers fighting over her attention and even Tom seemed interested in her and he was the quiet boy next door. He was so secretive of his private life that even I was tempted to try and crack it. But of course, it wouldn’t be fair, since I could easily use some harmless magic and find everything out. Sometimes the magic could take all the fun out of things. Maybe I could try it the old fashion way and not use my power. Hm, that could be a new and interesting challenge.

“What the hell are you talking about now?” Mia brought me back to our conversation. She looked wild. Her eyes were puffy and red, she had tear-stained cheeks and her eyes were wide as saucers. Okay, perhaps she didn’t get that the boys wanted her and were fighting over her attention and affection. Hm, maybe she’s truly perfect for Drake, they are both dense with these things.

“Seriously?” I huffed.

“Seriously.” She huffed back.

“Which one of the guys, or girls, no judgment here, are you gonna bang your brains out with?” I clarified for her thick head to finally connect the dots.

“Excuse me!?” She shrieked high enough to wake the dead. She soon realized that, and her hands covered her mouth in horror.

“Oh, sush, now. I soundproof the room ages ago, so we could talk privately.” That made her relax and she started breathing again. She could be so dramatic sometimes and didn’t even notice. “So, which one is gonna be?” I smirked at her again.

She gaped at me again and her cheeks were heating up, becoming a very bright red, like a shiny tomato. It was cute that she was embarrassed to be attracted to them. Both brothers were quite a vision and Melinda was not behind them, although I’m not sure she was into that. Sam was hot with her warrior body and bubbly personality, again we have Tom and his mysterious ways... Maybe I should pay him a visit one of these days. I shrugged my shoulders on my own thoughts.

“No one.” Mia squealed. Yeah, dense. I knew she was interested. But maybe she didn’t know it yet. Her body language was subtle, but I noticed her reaction to the boys arguing and everything.

“You are telling me that none of them even remotely attracts you? Not even a little bit?” I questioned.

“That’s not what you asked before.” She pointed out at me. Sneaky. I liked her more by the second.

“So, you are attracted to them?”

She just shrugged her shoulders at me, even though she was still red like a firetruck. Her eyes told me that she wouldn’t answer more questions like that, so I would give up for now. I was having lots of fun watching the brothers squirm and try to gain the upper hand. I would just keep watching and enjoy the ride. With that in mind I asked if she was okay once more and after I was sure she would be fine, I left her room to hit mine. I was tired and a comfy bed sounded perfect right now.

So naturally that was not what I got. Right after I closed Mia’s bedroom door, Drake poked his head out of his own room. He looked me up and down for a few seconds, examining my eyes far more then he should. They should still be a bit puffy and red from the crying, because Drake stepped out of his room with concern in his grey eyes.

“Are you okay?” He asked softly.

“Yeah, just tired as hell, you know. Been on the road for a few weeks to get here.” I said the truth, well, part of it anyway.

He hummed in response. “I need to ask you a favor, and it’s a big one.” He spoke.

Usually, he was very good at hiding his emotions and being composed behind his Alpha Face. But right now, I was only dealing with my best friend Drake and his troubled mind. He looked uncertain about what he wanted to ask me and even guilty about it. That was not common for him and quite frankly that made me way more curious. But I had a suspicion about what he wanted me to do and that was not fair to anyone.

“I’m sorry, Drake, but I won’t tell you about Mia’s sexual preferences.” I joked but added the serious part after. “Or if she’s your mate or not.”

As soon as the word ‘sexual’ left my lips Drake’s eyes widen with horror and he grabbed me by the arm and pulled me into his room. His hand covered my mouth so I couldn’t say anything else, and he listened quietly. Since we heard nothing and didn’t see any movements, he decided it was safe and closed the door. He was still stunned, looking at me like I was an alien. But his hand hadn’t move and I didn’t appreciate that, so I did the rational thing and bit him. Hard.

“OUCH!” He screamed like a bagpipe and let go of my mouth. I smiled contently at him. “Sometimes I forget that you are crazier than anyone else that I know of.” He complimented me. Okay, maybe it was not supposed to a compliment, but I would take it that way. Sue me.

“And sometimes I forget that you run on all fours. Ew!” I teased. That earned me an unamused glare. His eyes changed for a bit, getting more of a silver color now. He was talking to his wolf, I believed. So, I made myself comfortable and sat on the couch by the coffee table. His room was the biggest one in this wing, of course. Just the room could harbor an entire apartment inside. His bed was huge, and I couldn’t think why he insisted on using black sheets. That was tacky and horrifying. The rest of the decor was pretty much like the other rooms, but he had a table set with four chairs, some bookshelves and a wide wooden desk. His window wasn’t much of a window since it was a pair of French doors that led to a patio.

“Can you really do that?” Drake finally asked, after quite the discussion with his wolf, I’m sure.

“Of course not, I won’t betray my friend and tell her dirty little secrets lik-” he rudely cut me off.

“No! Get your head out of the gutter, woman.” He scoffed while sitting in a chair in front of me. “Can you really tell me if Mia is really my mate or not?”

He clearly didn’t get that I was serious about that part. Could I tell someone who their mate was? Yes. Would I? No. As a witch I could sense these things, like I could sense other creature’s nature and all. But I always chose not to meddle in any of it, at least for the most part. I’m sure that some people hated some witches just for that reason alone. I didn’t need to add to the hatred and be a tattletale on top of all our complicated history. So instead, I just shrugged and spoke.

“Can’t you?”

“No.” He looked at the floor, ashamed. Well, fuck. I hated to see him like that. I could see the sadness oozing out of him. He was frustrated with this subject and not knowing it for sure. Judging by the time he took to talk with his wolf I would say Silver had no idea either and that only made things worst. As a werewolf, your wolf part should be the one to tell you this with certainty and on the spot. Mia was around them for quite some time now, so Silver should have no doubts anymore. But here we were, and Drake was clearly distraught by the fact that Silver didn’t know.

Now things made a bit more sense. I thought that it was kind of odd the fact that Kyle and Drake seemed to be competing over who was best suited to Mia, if Drake knew she was his mate or not, then it wouldn’t be a dispute between them at all. Well, shit. Now I didn’t know what to do. Should I help a friend out and tell him what he wanted to know, or should I let nature follow its course and time would tell him? I hate to have morals, sometimes. It can really suck.

“Is something wrong with me, Ray?” Drake asked in the most vulnerable voice I had ever heard from him. I quickly left my couch and kneeled in front of him, getting his hands in mine and squeezing it to reassure him.

“There is absolutely nothing wrong with you, Drake. Or Silver, for that matter. Sometimes circumstances just really suck. I can’t tell you anything, because it’s not my place and not my life that could change or not. But I can assure you, you are not at fault here. I have faith that everything will resolve itself in the end. And you and your mate will be insanely happy! Whoever she is.” I said softly, smiling at him.

“Thanks for that, Ray.” He took a deep breath and composed himself again. There he was, Alpha Drake back to action. “But that was not what I wanted to ask you. I need you to raise the dead for me.”

“YOU WHAT?” I screamed and released his hands standing up. Wow, that was messed up, even for me.
