Make Me

Chapter Chapter TWENTY-NINE

Lucifer's POV: "IM FINE!" Lucifers deep, booming roar sent everyone into a frozen state, including Vixen, who was trying to wash some blood off the Lord's face. The party was officially over, of course, but still, there were too many people here for Lucifer's taste... All the servants, trying to clean up the mess Jude made, plus Vixen and Mindy attempting to be soft and caring. Neither woman had any experience in either of those things, and all they did was annoy him. Everyone annoyed him. When he noticed no one dared to move, he made an irritated hand gesture, signalling for everyone to leave the throne hall. Massaging his temples, he waited for all the footsteps to fade away, only then did he open his eyes, peeking out from his light, but long lashes. Every bone in his body was hurting, his skin was torn, so was his suit, and as he parted his lips, he could feel each wound that ran across it... However, all this agony didn't even compare to what he felt. Anger, most of all, mixed with all types of painful emotions, that left his chest tight.

Never in his life could he hate someone so much... He despised Gabriel, Leon, the angels, God, of course, but no one was such an eyesore, no one ruined his life quite as much as Seth did, and the little bastard didn't even know it. He wasn't even born when it all started... But one thing was for sure, Seth deserved every little moment of having his illusional wings being cut off. He wished he would've been able to watch the boy longer, he earned to feel what Jude and Lucifer both had to go through because of him, and him alone.

Rising from his throne, he grunted in pain but didn't let it bother him from moving, nonetheless. He wanted to read Seth, so he would be able to send them away. He didn't want that curse of a child in his castle, it wasn't even fun anymore to watch him get in all sorts of stupid situations. He just wanted him to cease to exist and to do it painfully...

He walked through the hallways of his home, until' he reached the chambers. He pushed the door open and walked through the unpleasant and cold area, silent as a cat. He didn't know which cell they were in, but he could easily follow the aura of Jude's power, till he arrived at the right block.

The sight tightened his throat to the point that he had a hard time breathing. Anger and desperation overcame him, sending him to a furious state that made his hand tremble with the need to destroy something.

He fell from heaven, for Jude... He rebelled against God, got his wings cut off, and thrown into hell because he believed he wasn't Judas. He... He knew he couldn't be. He would never let him die. They were friends... emphasis on the "were". If not for Seth, and the stupid prophecy, neither of them would've had to suffer so much... The only thing that made him glad for their sinning, was that after losing his wings, Jude changed completely. He became... uninvadable. Unreadable. Far away from everything that he once was, he lived up to the nickname people forced on him, and Lucifer was somewhat happy for that. He knew, no one could get close enough to Jude's cruel heart for them to fall in love... the prophecy seemed to be false, as the hurtful events of the past ate Jude alive, turning him away from the man he once was. On the outside, polite and gentle, but Lucifer knew better. Jude found great joy in destroying people, and to do it in a way that no one would know it was him.

A little bit of a violent and cynical smile appeared on his lips, as he recalled the day he summoned Jude to hell for the first time in a while... Even that day, when he heard that Jude matched with a mortal, he didn't even flinch... He was convinced, that he knew his friend more than anyone else, even if they grew apart. Jude couldn't love anyone; he didn't care to. Even if it's his match, it doesn't mean anything...

And then, later when he saw them together at the dinner... He knew something was odd, but he wrote it off as Jude using another way to manipulate the boy. The softness in those looks he gave Seth made Lucifer's skin crawl, but he knew it's just an act... It's nothing more, just Jude being great at what he does... Anyone who had ever seen or felt Seth's soul should know that there is very little to love in him. Rage, frustration, cruelty and pride suffocating anything good that could've ever come from the boy, and though for a toy he sure could be interesting, nothing more.

He, of all mortals, would deserve to rot in hell.

His smile grew bitter, as he tried to swallow, but nothing really happened. His throat was dry, and it was painful to even attempt anything with it.

There were so many signs... but it only struck him now. Seeing the desperate outrage in Jude's eyes when he thought the boy died. He would even attack him... Him. Seth wasn't the one, who stood up for Jude. Even if he did, he is a human... He is worthless. And yet, for some reason, Jude looked at him with a softness, Lucifer thought the other had lost so many years ago.

So, it really must happen?

He hated this prophecy, especially because the more anyone tried to fight it, the easier it came true, and those two didn't even seem to be aware of what they were becoming.

A strange sort of jealousy ran through his body as he stared at the curled-up couple. Such a small bed for a man Jude's size, yet they seemed comfortable sleeping closer than any lover would need to. The demon curled up around Seth, in a way that Lucifer could almost see how his wings would be covering the boy... the wings that they both lost so long ago.

Lucifer was never in love with Jude, but he missed getting affection from him. He missed the times, when Jude saw him as a partner, as someone who was on his side. The worst of it all, that he knew, even if he managed to kill Seth, it wouldn't make anything right. Jude would hate him forever... even know, maybe there is nothing left from the friendship they once had.

"You have some guts to show up here" the demon's deep growl ripped him from his thoughts, so his gaze focused on the burning velvet eyes. Jude's face remained calm and collected, but his eyes alone could've killed Lucifer, and this fact always amused him.

"I've come to collect my gift" he replied with an easy smile. Nothing appeared on his face from the pain that grasped his heart. He always stood his friend's hatred with a smile, as if he wasn't bothered, because what else would he do? It's been thousands of years since they've been close.

Jude brought the boy closer to his chest as if to say no without words, but Seth woke from the small movement and sleepily glanced around, finding Lucifer in a few seconds. He could never tell exactly what he saw on the boy's face... He wasn't unreadable by any means, but he kept up walls that were hard to look through sometimes... Or at least, until' now. But one thing was sure, even if he hated to admit it... Seth wasn't as neutral towards Jude as he made it out to be, obviously, that was apparent for everyone but the two of them. If Lucifer had the chance to name Seth in the prophecy, he would've surely gone with Denial.

"I'm coming... Just let Jude out." Seth mumbled, still half asleep, as he almost fell out of the bed. Lucifer couldn't help but smile at the ridiculous attempt of the boy trying to cover up the fact that he was cuddling with his demon, it was rather amusing. He patiently waited until' Seth got his walking-stick in his hand and stood up straight.

He still had a hard time believing that a girl, that had one fucking job which was as easy as causing someone a mortal wound with a knife, failed to do so. If Veronica would've been his servant, he would've surely tortured her to death, after such a laughable failure.

"Will you try to kill me?" Lucifer asked a little mockingly, raising one of his eyebrows when he glanced at Jude.

"Will you give me a reason to?" touché...

"Most likely" though it sounded like they were joking, both were quite serious, yet they offered each other a barely visible smile. Honesty usually won Jude over, especially after he cooled off... or well, whenever that happened because Jude was rarely angry at all.

He opened the gate wide open for the two and watched as Seth limped out followed by Jude shortly. Seth's POV:

I thought there would be more tension between Jude and Lucifer, now that they got in a physical fight, but both seemed calm. My face was a little hot, though probably not red... I didn't know who I was trying to convince really. Lucifer had already walked in on us and saying that it was a one-time accident would also be untrue.

But... I still felt like I was caught red-handed in something I wasn't supposed to do.

Jude was something, I wasn't supposed to do.

Taking my mind off these sensitive topics, I concentrated on the thumping sound of my walking stick, as we left the chambers. I wanted to empty my head of everything that I didn't want Lucifer to see. I still didn't know which door he'll open... Truth be told, I didn't know what was behind each of them, but I honestly wished I'd never find out.

I was glad to be out of the chambers after I already had my prison experience for life. As we got up our room, all three of us stopped, waiting for Jude to go inside, or just... Save me? I don't know, I was partially hoping he would pull one of his little tricks and help me not take responsibilities for my actions, that would be very sweet now.

As his eyes met mine, his lips pressed closer together in a studying expression.

"Lucifer..." Jude spoke up suddenly, his voice contained and calculated as his eyes flickered away from me "All three of us has to carry the weight of the prophecy... None of it will get easier, even if you manage to give Seth nightmares again." I watched quietly, as the two stared at each other with an unreadable expression settled on their faces. Lucifer slowly smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes.

"You really think I'm that petty?"

"I'm absolutely sure, yes" Jude remarked without a blink, and Lucifer flashed a guilty child's smile.

"If you want to suggest I give my gift up, don't waste your words... I won't. But I have an offer... You can come if you want"

"You are talking about my mind; can you not invite people over?" I asked raising my eyebrows in complete astonishment... Lucifer would totally be the type of friend who organizes a party at your house instead of his own...What a prick. "I'm not inviting 'people' over. I'm inviting your match since he is so concerned that I'll mess your head up" he shot back with a snarky smile, and I felt a snarl forming on my lips "Though I feel like there is not much work left for me, is there Seth?

"You don't know me" I hissed, narrowing my eyes, as his grin widened.

"Yeah, but I did see you make out with a strange monster, so that's that..."

"It was Jude"

Lucifer glanced towards Jude, eyeing him up, then turned back to me with a mocking smirk.

"Yeah... ;They are like twins"

"That's it, I'm killing him" I growled almost feeling as steam left my ears, but Jude promptly stepped to my side, and place his hands on my shoulders, as a mean to calm me down. Not as if Lucifer was in any real danger unless I managed to kill him with my mere thoughts.

"No need to stress dear... I knew you were freaky before that as well..." he whispered, and my face heated up impossibly at this point.

"Whose side are you on?"

"Whichever side makes you blush" I could almost hear his smile, but I pretended not to know what kind of expression he made, I just kept glaring at Lucifer.

"Let's get the reading over. Jude can't come, and that's final. We made a deal, and the less of you are in my head, the better it is" I sighed, stepping away from Jude, signalling that we can and should go.

"Usually, the more people are in you, the better, take it from me... Especially if one of those people is Jude" My eyes flickered back to Lucifer's stupid smirk, feeling now the urge to choke the life out of him, but then I quickly calmed my temper... They are demons, sex jokes are like breathing to them. I still had a hard time accepting that these two had slept together and that I must know about this.

I attempted to control my face, not to betray too much hatred and jealousy, as the fallen and I stared into each other's eyes.

"I take, that you offered me a threesome Lucifer?" I questioned, cocking one of my eyebrows up, as I heard Jude make a small "-What" sound in the background.

"Very flattering, but you aren't really my type" I managed to offer him a soft smile, then turned on my heels "Hope we can stay friends though" I glanced back at him with an insolent smirk, that barely, but reached my eyes. I could tell I managed to surprise him a little, either with my death-wish to talk to him like that, or with my words, but either way, it got the reaction I wished for. He shut up.

"Sure thing..." he breathed out, hiding a smile in the corner of his lips, while for probably the first time in his life, not looking at me as if he wanted to shove a spiky metal rod down my throat and watch me both suffocate and bleed out at the same time.

"I'll bring him back as soon as we will be done" He now turned to Jude, and we parted ways from my demon, walking somewhere... I didn't know where exactly he planned to read me, last time we were in some type of salon or so. We followed the hallways for a suspiciously long time, but soon enough he stopped before one of the doors, and opened it up, offering me to go in first. I limped in, my eyes cautiously admiring my surroundings. I could only imagine this was Lucifer's bedroom, for it had the most richly decorated, yet inviting king-sized bed I have ever seen, with a golden back, and pitch-black covers. There were a few armchairs here and there, placed in front of a fireplace that was probably merely a design piece since I couldn't imagine it's ever cold in hell. Everything had small golden details, including the carpet that ran across the floor.

"You do have a taste for beauty, don't you?" his words broke me from my throughs, so I spun around to face him, but he stood way too close for comfort, so I stumbled back in surprise. Clearing my throat, I nodded a little, not wanting to look like a fool before him.

"Calming to the eyes... You indeed have a wonderful palace..." I replied, honestly, but in a polite manner.

"I'm sure you'll enjoy Jude's mansion too then. Though he told me he'll only take you there once you actually die" he explained.

The thought made me a little nervous... Usually, death is not something I would be waiting, but still, I couldn't help my curiosity, of where Jude lives.

I nodded, as Lucifer offered me one of the armchairs, now much more reserved, and less bratty than before. I start to have the feeling he keeps that side for Jude... Like a child who wants attention and misbehaves to get it.

I sat down, trying to clear my head as much as I could, crossing my legs in an elegant manner I waited for the reading to happen. Lucifer took a chair next to me and made a small gesture towards the fireplace, which magically lit up with strange, blue flames. I stared in awe for a second... I didn't feel any heat coming from the fire, though it looked real.

"Oh... you need my hand, don't you?" I remembered suddenly, since he didn't do anything, and I reached my hand towards him, but he didn't move, just glanced at my arm lazily, then turned his gaze back to the fire, while pouring himself a dark golden liquid, that I presumed was whiskey.

"I'm not going to read you. Though you can't tell that to Jude" he said, not even looking in my direction. I stared at him in total confusion, trying to tell what the hell is going on in his mind.

"Why... Why not?" I asked a little cautiously since I didn't want him to do it, I just couldn't understand why he wouldn't.

"I realized it wouldn't benefit me anymore." he stated a little bitterly "It would hurt Jude more than it would hurt you... And that's just not fun that way." he shrugged, his voice nonchalant, but I knew better than to believe this act.

I didn't know Lucifer, but I knew myself. I knew that I shrugged the same way if I didn't want someone to know, I wasn't that neutral about whatever we spoke about. I also knew that "not that fun" directly translates to "I just can't bring myself to do it", at least in my vocabulary, and I had a feeling we shared that aspect with Lucifer.

"I think he should know that you care about him" I said quietly since I didn't know how he'll react to my advice, or just the fact that I decided to give it to him.

"That coming from you is a little ironic" he scoffed, sipping a little bit of his drink, while he studied the flames still. I opened my mouth to deny his words, but then closed them again... He would see right through me, there was no use lying. "Did Jude only fall because of the mark of Judas on him? That birthmark?" I asked suddenly, yet my voice remained calm not to disturb the atmosphere.

Lucifer's eyes found me only now, and he frowned a little, forcing his expression into a bitter smile before he nodded.

"And everyone who stood beside him was cursed out... Just as you were in the illusion." he concluded, his gaze holding a little too heavy of a burden for me to handle. I couldn't imagine what it was like to have your life, your family and your home taken away from you because of some old text and a birthmark...

"That's how you fell?"

A little bit of silence answered me, as he turned his eyes back to the fireplace. I knew I was right, just from his reaction, and in the first time in my life, I felt the slightest bit of sympathy towards Lucifer. The more I was close to demons, the more I found out they weren't born evil... None of them was, not even Lucifer, and that made it much harder to hate them for it.

"I despise you, Seth... I despised you long before you were born" the confession caught me off-guard, especially because it was so calm and tame, yet his voice carried the emotion he talked about so purely...

"But I respect that you chose to fall with Jude... Probably the only good thing about you, but still" an exhausted chuckle left my throat at the twisted compliment, staring into the flames as well as I tried to contain the strange almost bonding- experience I had with the devil. A long silence came, which I let settle between us.

"I mean... You have nice hair" I forced a compliment back with a stupid grin, which finally earned a 'really?' look from him, but I could tell he had a hard time not smiling. We both had terrible humour, there was not much to do about that. We sat there for a while, probably waiting to be long enough for Jude to believe he had read me, and we didn't really talk during that time. Lucifer was deep in thought and had no problem ignoring my very existence, and I was content with watching the blue flames dance in the magnificent fireplace.

I didn't know his reasons per se, but I very much knew what it was like to care for Jude, but not wanting him to know it... And though I wouldn't say now I liked Lucifer, I admired that he held Jude so dearly, that he would even give up on hurting me... Or maybe he just realized that Jude is not in love with me and doesn't feel threatened about the prophecy anymore. But that wouldn't make much sense after what had just happened between them. "Let's go back now... I'm sure Jude is anxious to see you"
