Chapter 240
Chapter 240 Delusional
The elite women around him started listening intently when he uttered those words.
It was the first time they had seen such a heated scene, and they found it more thrilling than any staged performance.
Jane's heart skipped a beat, and her expression subtly changed as she was about to speak.
Christian darkened his expression and frowned. He then abruptly snatched the "Tears of the Ocean" from her hand, turned, and walked away, saying, "She's only here as a guest. Don't read into it too much." His words were like a boulder thrown into a calm lake, creating ripples that shook the crowd.
Although they might have missed the rest of his words, everyone heard that Jane was "only here as a guest."
Jane's face turned a shade paler, her hand felt empty, and she looked like she had been struck, almost ready to collapse.
After Christian left, the remaining socialites and wealthy ladies didn't approach her. Instead, they seemed to be waiting to see what would happen next.
Jane had already struggled to be a part of this circle, and it was only because of her connection to the Patterson family that she was given any attention, something that had long been a sore point among the others.
Someone in the crowd whispered, "Did Christian actually bid on the jewelry for his ex-wife?"
Another scoffed, "I can't believe how delusional some people can be. They really thought tonight was an engagement party. Now that Christian had denied it, what's the point in pretending?"
Yet another added, "Come on, the Patterson family surely has better taste than that!"
One by one, the murmurs reached Jane's ears, causing her to grind her teeth nearly to the point of breaking.
Not long after, Anastasia found herself on the third floor, a hub for gambling activities.
The floor buzzed with people playing cards, poker, and other games. It was similar in layout to a famous international casino but on a much smaller scale.
Anastasia then glanced around and chose a less crowded spot to sit, idly watching others play.
Suddenly, a handful of chips was passed to Anastasia. Looking up, she saw Jaxon smiling warmly at her. He then asked, "Fancy a game?"
"No, thanks. Not feeling it," Anastasia replied while shaking her head.
"Are you hungry? Want to go eat something?" Jaxon questioned, arching an eyebrow.
He was incredibly thoughtful. Having spent time around him, she knew he was inherently well-mannered.
Anastasia felt her stomach, realizing she was a bit hungry.
"Actually, yes. I'll go grab something from the restaurant," Anastasia replied as she stood up, planning to return to talk to Zachary after eating. Jaxon paused, then slowly uttered, "I just saw Christian's parents heading to the restaurant..."
Upon hearing this, Anastasia stopped in her tracks, suddenly losing her appetite.
The last thing she wanted was to bump into anyone from the Patterson family while eating, spoiling her appetite.
Jaxon chuckled, "Wait here. I'll go get you some food."
Anastasia grinned back at him and happily agreed, "Thank you. I'd like lobster and pasta."
"Got it," Jaxon responded.
As soon as Jaxon left, Anastasia felt her mood lifted.
"I knew I could count on Jaxon in a pinch!" She thought.
Then, Zachary walked over with a glass of wine and set it in front of Anastasia.
"Ms. Graves, shall we discuss the acquisition now?" He suggested.
Anastasia was a little startled by the unexpected topic.
Anastasia instinctively picked up the wine glass and smiled. "Sure."
Zachary was direct and amicable as he laid out his terms. "Kimberly had tried to negotiate with me earlier, but we couldn't agree on a price. I know you're planning something big, and I want 10% of the shares." Anastasia tensed up slightly, and her relaxed demeanor instantly turned serious. "We can't meet that condition, Mr. Thompson."
The three-way partnership between Anastasia, Kimberly, and Christian had already achieved a certain balance of interests.
Diluting the shares at this point would collapse the project instantly.
Zachary's smile momentarily froze as he swirled the wine in his glass. He then clinked his glass against hers and offered, "Ms. Graves, I'll change my condition for your sake. I want to triple the asking price."
