Lucius-Ever Green Series Book Three

Getting up the next day, Chloe did not want to tell Lucius how nervous she was about meeting his father. Chloe knew he would be coming later that day for dinner. Since she knew he had landed the other day and wanted to rest before coming over. Her parents drove all the from south of Jefferson. Tonight was going to be eventful for both families.

Chloe spent the morning gathering everything to clean her apartment up, so that will be for when both their parents come over. Lucius was out at the store getting groceries for a recipe that he wanted to make. There was a knock on the night. Thinking Lucius was back from the store. She looked through the peek hole to see Margo standing there. Then, she opened the door.

"Margo, what are you doing here?" Chloe questioned.

"I came by to show my engagement ring. Thomas proposed last night." Margo said, showing Chloe the ring.

Grabbing Margo’s hand and taking a closer look at the ring. Chloe congratulated her friend and then hugged her. Lucius comes through the door soon after.

"What’s the occasion?" Lucius asked, putting the grocery bags on the table.

"Margo got engaged," Chloe announced.

Lucius looked down and looked at Margo’s hand. He did not say anything. Chloe thought Margo was a lucky girl. She knew she had a lot to do before their parents came by later.

"Can I help with cleaning the place?" Margo asked.

"Nah, I got it," Chloe deflected Margo.

Margo soon left afterward saying goodbye and good luck to them. She slammed the door by accident. Chloe looked at Lucius and then said, "Her engagement is sudden, don't you think?"

"Yes, I do. They don't know either that well either. I think they are rushing things. Then again, we did it by sleeping together. You ended up pregnant." Lucius stated.

"Yeah, but should we talk about this first?" Chloe asked.

"We don't have to. We know what we are getting ourselves into when we start doing this in the first place. I know our parents will ask us how we met and how long we were seeing either. We need to come up with a story and make it believable." Lucius comments. He put away the groceries.

Then Lucius and Chloe rehearsed their accounts of how they met. Both did not realize that their parents were going to be there soon. Immediately, Lucius gathered the ingredients for the dinner. Chloe was busy setting the table in the dining room. Everything was getting close to being done when a knock at the front door. Chloe rushed over to get it and saw her mother standing in the doorway. Her father was not standing there at all. Guessing her father is still mad at her. Then Chloe closed the door and gathered her mother's coat to put in the closet.

"Smells nice in her." Mrs. Swartz comments.

"Yes, mother," Chloe answered.

Not long after her mother showed up, another knock came at the door. Chloe rushed over to the door to reveal a scary man. She held out her hand to take his coat. The guy hands her the coat and moves passed her into the apartment. Lucius comes out of the kitchen soon after. He shakes hands with Chloe's mother.

"Son, how are you?" Scary man questions.

"I am doing fine," Lucius said before leaving to go back to the kitchen.

Chloe's mother and the scary guy both were sitting in the living room. Chloe followed Lucius back into the kitchen to help with last-minute preparations. Lucius turned towards Chloe looking tense. He put the towel on and stood with his hands on the top of the chair. Chloe came over and hugged him from behind to try to calm him down.

"What’s wrong?" Chloe asked kissing his shoulder.

"I just don't feel like tonight is going to be a good night for either of us. I just keep getting a feeling." Lucius said with shoulders sagging.

"We need this to work out for both of us. So, we need our parents to support what we are going through. We are going to be parents. I want our child to at least know their grandparents." Chloe told Lucius before leaving the room carrying out the food towards the dining room.

Lucius followed her out of the kitchen. He did not want to be rude and introduced himself to Chloe's mother. Chloe did the same thing and Lucius’s father freaked her out.

Everyone filed into the dining room. Everything was going well until Mr. Wentz asked Chloe the question, "Are you going to marry my son before the baby is born?"

Lucius started choking when his father asked the question. Chloe patted him on the back and answered, "We never talked about that Dad."

Then Lucius grabbed his plate and went back to the kitchen. Lucius came back from the kitchen with another plate of food. Not bothering to answer anything else. Chloe talked to her mother and she asked both of them questions. Mr. Wentz started talking to Chloe's mother to get to know her better.

Dinner had run somewhat smoothly despite the weird questions about marriage. Chloe was not sure if she wanted to get married yet. She did want to have a family too. Maybe she did want all of that. It just scared her. An hour after dinner was over, another knock came at the door. This time it was Lucius who answered the door. Not expecting to see her father standing in the doorway of the living room. Lucius looked confused and looked at me as if I was expecting anyone else.

"Sorry, I am late everyone," Mr. Swartz said.

Mr. Swartz came over to hug Chloe and hugged his wife. He apologized again. He shook hands with both Lucius and Mr. Wentz. Chloe learned his first name to be Miles. She addressed him by that. The air in the room still felt tense.

"How are things going back at the council in Pennsylvania," Mr. Swartz asked Miles.

Miles told Chloe's father about what was happening back in Pennsylvania. Lucius knew nothing of it but kept it to himself. Chloe acted like she knew nothing of the supernatural world. No one else butted into the conversation that was happening currently. The night breezed by fast, and the couple hoped that it did.

Lucius and Chloe looked at one another but never spoke anything beyond that point. Chloe stood up and went to the bedroom. She buds the others good night. Mr. and Mrs. Swartz looked to Lucius to say, "I know about the supernatural world due to being half a witch. Chloe does not know her true heritage yet. Don't tell her just yet."

Everyone gathered their stuff and left for the night. Lucius went to the bedroom and fell asleep too. Chloe was still awake thinking how does her family know about the supernatural world?
