Chapter 29
Chapter 29: Business or Personal Affairs
“Serena, stay away from Blair,” he said.
Blair had gone crazy last night and posted more than a dozen videos on her Whatsapp Moments, exposing their ugly sides for everyone to see. Underneath, there were comments from several college roommates with rows of question marks and exclamation marks. Blair had ruined Serena’s image completely. If Jenny wasn’t thousands of miles away, she would probably beat up Blair.
As two good friends, Blair was responsible for indulging her, while Jenny was responsible for pulling her back. Serena was just going with the flow in the middle.
Blair was called by Serena to wake up and was already running late. She didn’t have time to go home and change, so she wore Serena’s clothes and headed out. The two squeezed onto the subway.
“Why don’t you drive?” Serena asked.
“I’m currently working at Future Better Technology Company, and the parking fees there are extremely expensive. It’s also hard to find a parking space, so it’s more convenient to take the subway,” Blair replied.
“Why are you working at Future Better Technology Company?” Serena wondered. “It seems like Future Better Technology Company just won’t leave you alone. The whole world revolves around them.”
“Their human resources department is planning next year’s talent strategy, and they want me to immerse myself and understand their needs, so they can recruit better next year. Actually, they want to hire me as a recruitment manager,” Blair explained.

“What’s your decision?” Serena asked.
“Of course, I refused. My Whatsapp was recommended to their human resources director by Penn, which made them misunderstand that I have a close relationship with Penn. You know, with my foxy looks, it’s easy for people to misunderstand,” Blair said.
Serena listened as Blair spoke. She never found anything Blair did to be strange.
“But I almost embarrassed myself last time. I thought he was close to Jenny. Didn’t you say that his best friend Nate is pursuing Jenny? When I introduced myself as Jenny’s good friend Blair, he hesitated for a moment and clearly didn’t remember who Jenny was. Fortunately, he had good manners and politely responded to my greeting,” Blair added.
This man was quite a gentleman, regardless of anything else.
The two separated at the transfer station. Blair went to Future Better Technology Company, while Serena went back to the law firm.
However, Serena didn’t expect that she would soon be sent to Future Better Technology Company by Emma.
Delivering a report to Future Better Technology Company was just an excuse. Emma’s real intention was to have Serena pave the way and at least show up every day before the official bidding to become familiar with the company and also to gather information about other law firms. Knowing oneself and the enemy leads to a hundred victories in a hundred battles.
Serena remembered that she had lost her temper at Penn last night, and it was indeed her fault. She took this opportunity to apologise to him.
She sent him a message on WhatsApp, “Are you at the company? I

want to see you.”
He didn’t reply until noon, “Is it business or personal? For business matters, please make an appointment with my assistant.” His tone was cold, and it seemed that he was really angry.
“I have both business and personal matters,” Serena replied truthfully. The business was to submit a risk report, and the personal matter was to apologise.
“Personal matters should not be discussed at the office. We’ll talk about it tonight. For business matters, please make an appointment with my assistant,” he replied.
Serena was furious. Why did she need to make an appointment with his assistant? This man was deliberately making things difficult for her.
She had arrived at the Future Better Technology Company’s building, but even if she could contact Penn directly, without an appointment and the assistant’s consent, the security guard wouldn’t let her go up.
After not replying for a while, Penn sent another message, “We don’t need to communicate on business matters. If you have any issues, please contact the legal department. I have already informed them, and you can go there directly in the future. As for personal matters, we can talk about it tonight. I’m busy during work hours.”
Talk about it tonight? Did he still want to come to my house? Sorry, I won’t receive you.
Serena quickly replied with one sentence, “There’s no personal matter, no need to meet again.”
She angrily finished her sentence, but did not leave Future Better Technology Company because she had plans to have dinner with Blair, so she waited in the lobby on the first floor.

“Isn’t that Lawyer Woodsen from the Justice Law Office?” A voice suddenly came from beside her. Serena looked over and saw Julia Sherman, the legal head of Future Better Technology Company. To her surprise, Penn was standing next to her.
“Julia Sherman, Mr. Humphery.” She dared to get angry with him in private, but in public, she had to be polite and respectful. It felt like she had split personalities: she was seething inside, but had to keep up her professional demeanour as a lawyer.
“Why isn’t Lawyer Woodsen going up? Emma told me you came to deliver some documents.” Serena quickly handed the documents to Julia without even looking at Penn, treating him like he was invisible. Of course, to others, she appeared nervous and timid, afraid to even look at Penn.
Just then, a voice shouted from the exit, and the sound and shadow floated towards Serena at the same time. She was hugged by a rushing Blair.
“I didn’t have breakfast this morning, I’m starving to death!” Blair pouted like a spoiled child. She then noticed that Penn and Julia were standing next to them and quickly let go of Serena, respectfully greeting them. “Hello, Mr. Humphery and Julia.”
Julia discreetly scanned Penn and Blair up and down, then suggested, “Since you’re hungry, why don’t you go take a look at our employee cafeteria? Our chef was hired from a five–star hotel.”
It was rumoured that Blair had been recommended to the HR department by Mr. Humphery himself. According to the older
employees, Mr. Humphery had always kept his private and professional lives separate, so this was the first time he had recommended a partner to the department.
Plus, after observing them earlier, when Blair hugged Serena, Mr. Humphery’s gaze fell on Blair’s hand for a moment. Although it was only a fleeting moment, it carried a lot of meaning. Julia concluded that Mr. Humphery and Blair were rumoured to be in a romantic relationship, so it made sense that he would offer her a suggestion she would like.
Serena wanted to refuse and didn’t want to eat with Penn, but Blair eagerly agreed, “Yes, yes. I’ve heard that Future Better’s employee cafeteria is a food paradise. I’ve wanted to visit for a long time, but unfortunately, external workers like us don’t have employee cards.”
Blair held Serena’s hand and walked next to Julia. “That’s easy, I’ll have the administration department get you a card,” Julia said slyly, standing on the other side of Blair and Serena, so Serena ended up standing next to Penn.
“Can you get Lawyer Woodsen a card too?” Blair shamelessly asked. After all, two heads is better than one.
