Chapter 25
Love Never Regrets By Roana Cyrus Chapter 25 Focus on Work, Not Love
“What are you talking about? Work?” she asked.
In her view, whether it was her first time or her nth time, it had nothing to do with Penn. She didn’t think Penn was a conservative person either. It was already this day and age, did they still need to be responsible for the other person’s first time?
“Penn,” she said.
After a long and intense day of work, Serena was really tired and fell asleep before he could finish his sentence. The next day, she woke up and looked at her phone. There was an unread message from Penn that was sent three hours after the previous one.
“Focus on work and not love.”
The tone of the message reminded her of what her parents used to say to her: “Study hard and don’t date early.”
Serena was even more certain that Penn had seen Blair’s interaction with Jenny yesterday and had seen Blair mention that Mr. Jordan was pursuing her.
How could she have the mind to think about love now? Besides, what did it have to do with him whether she dated or not?
Serena didn’t reply and deleted the chat record with a flick of her hand. She was busy with work and had forgotten about this little incident.
Charlie was invited to train newcomers at an industry association, and before leaving, he gave Serena some guidance and left only after she felt at ease. Serena was organized in her work. During Emma’s week- long trip abroad, she mainly went online to collect relevant information about Future Better Technology Company and Hands–free Intelligent Technology Company, as well as industry information related to merger and acquisition transactions. She made a detailed report and sent it to Emma.
Charlie also revealed to her that the concept product represented by Emma had been stolen, but progress was smooth. As long as they gained Penn’s trust, they should be able to get an invitation to bid for the merger and acquisition case of Future Better Technology Company in the later stage. Therefore, Charlie allowed her to try to make a bidding PPT in the next week, which could be used for reference when Emma returned to the country.
Serena immediately started preparing for it. Although the project had not yet made progress, busy work made her feel very fulfilled. The first time she made a bid, just building the content and dividing the main and secondary parts made her busy and dizzy. Therefore, when she saw Penn again at her doorstep, she thought she was hallucinating.
Wasn’t he with Emma overseas?
Based on their current relationship, Serena already understood his purpose for coming uninvited. However, after experiencing intense work, she didn’t have the mood to do anything “intense” and just wanted to sleep quietly.
Penn was already familiar with her home and walked in with several shopping bags from nearby supermarkets in his hands. They were filled to the brim.
Seeing her puzzled expression, he changed his slippers and walked into her kitchen.
“The fridge is empty,” he said.
He was economical with his words, but his actions were very fluent. There were vegetables, fruits, and meat in the shopping bags, and he classified them and put them in her fridge.
“I don’t usually cook. Putting it in the fridge will spoil it,” Serena said.
“I’ll cook!” he said.
Serena was confused.
“Penn is always unpredictable, and Serena can’t figure out what he wants to do. They’re just normal sleeping partners, and he’s already breaking the rules by coming over uninvited all the time, isn’t he?
“I’m a bit tired today, so it’s not convenient tonight,” she stated her position in advance, refusing to have sex again tonight, and implicitly hoping he would leave her home.
Penn paused for a moment, looked up at her, and said, “Rest if you’re
tired, I’ll tidy up and leave.”
Serena nodded and said thank you. She had originally planned to take a shower, but since Penn was still in the house, she didn’t want to send any ambiguous signals tonight, so she just changed into a decent set of home clothes and came out of the bedroom.
The kitchen in her house had a whole wall of sliding doors. When the doors were left open, it became an open kitchen, so Serena could see at a glance that Penn was cooking noodles at the stove.
Although they were strangers, perhaps because they had been intimate and he had helped her twice, once with a leaking kitchen and once on the subway, being in the same space together was miraculously natural and harmonious.
Like his inexplicable appearance at her door, his inexplicable appearance in her kitchen, and his even more inexplicable act of making her a bowl of noodles, none of it seemed out of place but rather like it was meant to be.
The noodles were simple, a few vegetables, a poached egg, and some scallions, but they looked glossy and appetising.
Penn handed her the chopsticks and said, “You need to change your habit of not eating dinner.”
Serena: “How did you know I don’t eat dinner?”
“You don’t have the look of cooking in your kitchen.”
He hit the nail on the head, and Serena fell silent. Since she bought this house, the kitchen had only been used once for cooking, when her mother made a dish of fried rice upon moving in, and no cooking was done thereafter.
When she was alone, she really didn’t eat dinner. Only when Blair dragged her out to play after work would she eat a little, but Blair’s nightlife was rich, and she didn’t often take her along.
Long–term not eating dinner made her stomach very small. She originally thought she couldn’t eat much, but unconsciously finished a bowl of bread soup.
Penn also served himself a bowl and ate slowly across from her.
“Why did you come back early? Did Emma come back with you?”
“I’m not sure. Her itinerary doesn’t need to be reported to me.”
“Has the case of the stolen concept product been resolved?” Serena gathered her courage to bring up work with him again, actually trying to indirectly touch on his attitude towards Emma.
Penn glanced at Serena, put down his chopsticks, and said seriously, “Serena, does Emma want to compete for the acquisition of Future Better Technology Company?”
“Yes.”

“She personally brought you in to collect the relevant information in advance?”
“Yes.” Serena answered truthfully, not knowing what he was trying to say. Since being rejected by him last time, she had never mentioned any work–related matters to him again.
“But you know nothing about the latest developments in Future Better Technology Company, which must make people doubt your
professional competence.” He said this lightly, then continued to lower his head and eat noodles.
Serena was stunned. This week, she had been collecting information about the Future Better Technology Company.
Penn took out his phone and pulled up a news article in the technology section for her.
“It’s been resolved.” This was his response to her question.
The technology section of the news article was released this afternoon, and Future Better Technology Company won the case of the stolen concept product. In an inconspicuous line, it was written that Emma Thompson was the agent lawyer.
Coincidentally, Serena had not paid attention to this news today because she was making a bid PPT and missed this news.
“Learn well from Emma.”
Penn’s tone was always calm when speaking to her, even when he said she was unprofessional. It was completely impossible to discern his attitude, but the hidden meaning of this sentence should be recognition of Emma. Her heart relaxed slightly.
