Chapter 21: What It Means to Continue 

“What’s going on?” Serena asked, following his gaze to see water continuously flowing from the direction of the kitchen, flooding the entire dining room. Serena also froze, encountering this situation for the first time and not knowing what to do.

“You go to the living room, I’ll handle it,” Penn said as he rolled shirt sleeves and headed towards the kitchen.

“Where’s the main water valve in the kitchen?” he asked.

Serena didn’t know either. She rarely cooked and had only been in the kitchen a few times. How did the pipe burst?

“I’ll look for it,” she said, getting up to go towards the kitchen.

“Stand there and don’t move. I’ll look for it,” Penn stopped her. The water in the dining room was about to spread to the living room. Although it wasn’t a lot of water, the living room had wooden floors, and it would be troublesome if they got soaked.

Penn stepped into the kitchen on the water and began to search for the valve. The kitchen was a disaster area, and he opened the cabinets one by one, searching for the valve. He quickly found the valve beneath the sink, and the burst pipe was under the adjacent cabinet.

After turning off the valve, the water that had been gurgling out finally stopped.

However, Penn’s appearance was quite different from his usual elite style. His white shirt sleeves were rolled up, with a few stains on them, and his straight trousers were soaked with water.

Serena felt embarrassed to let him do the cleanup work, and she got up again to help clean up the water on the floor. But Penn stopped her again.

“My clothes are already dirty. Don’t come over. It’ll be done soon,” he said.

Soon, he cleaned the floor of the dining room, then squatted by the broken pipe for a while before saying, “Let’s find a worker to come fix it tomorrow.”

“Okay, thanks,” she said. Fortunately, with him there, she didn’t know what she would have done. When they renovated, she and her mother didn’t have much experience, and their financial ability was limited, SO they only did a simple renovation, which may have been subpar by the renovation company’s standards.

At this moment, Penn’s white shirt and suit pants were stained with water, but it didn’t detract from his handsome appearance at all, and he didn’t look flustered in the least.

“I’m going to take a shower,” he said, without any hesitation, heading straight to the bathroom. He couldn’t stand the water stains on his

“Okay,” Serena’s heart skipped a beat, those few words “I’m going to take a shower” made her unable to help but think of their previous experience, especially since they had been intimate once.

While Penn went to take a shower, she hurriedly pulled out her phone and sent a WhatsApp message to Blair.

“Blair, help me.”

Blair replied: “What’s going on?”

Serena: “What does it mean when a sleep partner you only went out with once suddenly shows up?”

Blair: “It means he wants to sleep with you again, honey.”

Serena: “I don’t think so. He doesn’t seem to lack for female company.”

Blair: “Sweetie, you have no idea how attractive you are. I’ve told you before that you’re a catch, and once a man sleeps with you, he won’t forget it easily. But wait, when did you make plans with him? Who is he? Is it safe?”

Serena: “It’s safe. I’ll tell you about it later.”

Blair: “Never mind what he thinks. The key is whether you want to

keep sleeping with him or not. How was it the last time? As I always say, when you find a good sleep partner, it’s like hitting the jackpot.”

Serena was speechless.

The problem now wasn’t whether she wanted to keep sleeping with him, but rather the fact that his identity was special. If Emma got this project, she would be seeing him all the time, and Serena didn’t think she had the heart to deal with that.

But the temptation from Penn is strong, and if she refuses him now, she’ll feel like she’s missing out. Serena is a conflicted person – on one hand, she wants to be loyal to her own physical needs, but on the other hand, she’s been suppressed by societal norms for a long time.

Blair’s quotations had really influenced her deeply. In fact, tonight, Penn didn’t show any signs of wanting to sleep with her again. He just helped her clean up the messy kitchen and borrowed her bathroom to take a shower because he got dirty. How did she imagine so much?
