Chapter 18. Rogues Attack
The next morning, I opened my eyes and took a few moments to remember the previous night. The most magical night I’ve ever lived. Nathan stared at me, his eyes were strange, they seemed a shade darker than his ever color.
“Good morning, Mate!”
“Good morning…!” His voice was different too, deeper and more hoarse. What the hell had happened to make this change.
“I’m Falco, I’m happy to finally be able to talk to you.” He admitted with a mischievous grin.
“Where is Nathan?”
“We fought and guess who won?”
“You’re not funny. Why did you fight?”
“Last night I asked him if I could have a moment with you. But with his stubbornness he always put me down deep in his mind. You don’t have a she-wolf, so for me it’s just you, my beautiful Mate.”
“I asked Nathan if I could talk to you and he seemed willing to agree. Why you fought, I can’t understand. Can you give Nathan control, please?” I asked politely, hoping Falco would accept.
His eyes were lost in the void, it meant they were having an argument.
“I’m so sorry, but sometimes I can’t control Falco.” Finally Nathan was back.
“Why did you refuse him to talk to me last night?”
“Because he didn’t want to talk to you!” He told me with a growl between his teeth. I stood for a moment thinking what he wanted him to do but talk? Then I was enlightened and Nathan realized that I understood very well what he was referring to.
“Yes, you got it right. Tonight was your first time and I certainly wouldn’t have allowed an Alpha to take what he wanted without an ounce of feeling.” His eyes were fixed again and I just had to wait for the end of their conversation.
“He wants to talk to you, again.”
“Okay. Let me talk to him. Don’t be jealous, he has his reasons too and they seemed pretty good to me.” After a few seconds Falco was in control again.
“What he fails to understand is that I won’t have a Mate, if not you. I have declared my love for you so many times to Nathan. I want you to know me too. I might be a little rude about some things, after all I am a wolf. But I want to have my chance with you. ” Falco was right across the board, Nathan on the other hand had his reasons, which I partially shared. The one who had to make a decision was me and my decision was already made: I would give Falco a chance.
“I’ll give you a chance, Falco.” He stole a kiss from me and I said: “Not now, Alpha! We have to go for breakfast!” He roared in response in boredom. I got up and went to get my clothes off the floor.
During breakfast one of the professors announced our early departure. There had been a serious lack of respect, which the professor did not take care to explain in the smallest details, towards whom and why. The sure thing was that we should have left the hotel as soon as possible.
The driver loaded the luggage onto the bus and an hour after breakfast, we left Florence heading home.
The return journey was as smooth as the outward journey. The hours it took were exactly the same, there was only one difference.
We were in line for the restroom of the motorway restaurant, at the last stop of the journey, when I had pangs of pain in my head, my vision suddenly blurred and I fell to the ground like a cooked pear. I woke up lying down with Nathan looking at me worried and my friends asking me if I was okay.
“I had pangs of pain in my head, my vision became blurred and then the light went out.”
“Come on, sit down, here, take this. When we arrive I asked my father to visit you.”
“Nathan! Because you have to disturb your father. I’m fine.”
“What did I tell you not to say you’re okay when you aren’t ?!” He said growling through gritted teeth.
“OK thanks!” I said giving up discussing this subject. The truth was that I was scared, my time was running out and there was nothing we could do to avoid the tragedy.
When we arrived in the forest it was just after 9 pm, the bus stopped and everyone went to their rooms and immediately afterwards to dinner. My parents were at the bus stop, my mother couldn’t wait to hug me and see with her eyes that I was still whole.
“Don’t say anything that I passed out!” I whispered to Nathan before joining my parents.
“Hi guys, how was the trip? I want to know everything about the vacation.” My mother said hugging first me and then Nathan.
“Most importantly, Nathan, can you answer me, please. My daughter for some strange reason wants to torture me. Are you two Mates?” Nathan looked at me for tacit permission to answer that question. I wanted to tell my parents in person and now was the time to do it. I gave my assent with a nod.
“Yes, we are.” My mother started jumping for joy and she hugged and kissed my father.
“Mom ...” I told her in a reproachful tone, it was a bit too exaggerated.
“Can you please take the suitcase to my room?” I asked my father who answered me with another question: “Why are you going?”
“You’ve just arrived !” My mother whimpered.
“I asked her to come to my house for dinner.” Nathan said showing some confidence
“Okay, I wish I had you all to myself, but you’ve become a Mate and I have to let you go. You can’t imagine how happy I am for you!” My mother said, kissing my forehead. As we left to go to Nathan’s house, I felt guilty for not telling my parents the truth. I knew the anxious side of my mother all too well and I didn’t want to have anything to do with it right now. On the way to Nathan’s house we met Val.
“Welcome back little sister!” Val greeted me and hugged me in a bear hug.
“Hi Nathan!” They shook hands and touched shoulders in greeting.
“Why did you come back earlier?”
“They haven’t explained in detail how it went, but we’re here. Don’t you want me at home anymore?”
“Those aren’t my words, Little Bird!” He said raising his hands and immediately after he added: “I love you, little sister!” Suddenly his eyes were staring into space, he was having a conversation with someone. When he was present again, in an excited voice, he ordered Nathan: “Take Myra to a safe place, now!”
“What is happening?”
“There is a rogue attack! Go now”; he said, as we already felt the bones breaking and repositioning, in a moment my brother’s Alpha, Rick, was on the attack.
Nathan took my hand and we started running towards his house. There was something in the pit of my stomach that was preventing me from running, I felt I had to clear my stomach. I suddenly let go of Nathan’s hand and started throwing up. I’d always hated doing it, but it was one of those things that couldn’t be avoided. The only real problem was: the moment. It wasn’t the right time, but the monster inside me had decided this was the perfect time to disturb.
“Are you okay, Myra ?! Are you done?” He asked me urgently, seeing to the situation; pulling my hair back. I continued to vomit for a while, suddenly we heard footsteps of werewolves in the distance, they were chasing each other and immediately after fighting. I could see them and noticed it was my brother’s Alpha: “Rick.” I said in a whisper, as I grabbed the handkerchief that Nathan held out for me, with which I wiped my lips. Meanwhile another stray wolf was approaching us and the leaping Nathan transformed, giving Falco control, but not before roaring: “Run, Myra!” I was weak, but I started running, my life depended on me. Nathan’s house was nearby, unfortunately there were no other houses where I could have found shelter. While I was running I did not feel well at all, the headache slowly began to make its way. While I was running for my salvation from the rouges, I was also wrestling with the monster inside me. I turned for a moment to look at whose footsteps I heard behind me, there was a rogue that was running in my direction, while Rick chased after him. Falco appeared behind them, I was relieved to see that there were two Alphas and I didn’t have to fear, they were two against one. Suddenly Falco began to growl menacingly, the moment I turned my head in the direction I was running I saw why. In front of me was a boy, with a blade in his hand, it looked like silver and I would have bet everything on the fact that there was also a wolfsbane. If that blade hit one of the werewolves, they would die, if it hit me I had a better chance of surviving.
The decision for me was very logical, easy, I had already decided: if anyone had to taste that blade, it was me. I kept running, getting closer and closer to the boy with the blade, while Falco tackled the stray behind me and Rick continued to catch up with me. My legs were about to give out and my eyes were clouding. The boy approached with an evil smile, one of those who declared to his prey: “I got you!” As he got closer and closer, my heart was in danger of having a heart attack, and as he bent over to stab me, I heard a roar not far from me and soon after my eyes went out.
