Chapter Chapter forty three
I heard the cry again as soon as I wanted to make my escape. Someone is hurting and I don't like it. I listened more carefully and I heard whimpers from a small old looking house. It seemed isolated too. I ignored all the stares and made my way to the house. I opened the door without knocking.
I met a tall man that looked fit like he trains daily. I ignored him as my eyes went to the girl on the floor crying In pain. I kneeled beside her and helped her rest on my thigh.
“You are fine now” I whispered In her ears gently,
“Who do you think you are? Coming into my house without my permission?” He screamed at me. I looked up at him angry.
“You should not be a guardian if you will abuse your daughter!” I helped the young girl up taking her out of the house.
“Stop right there” He warned. I ignored his warning and I walked out. He of course followed me. He pulled me by my shoulders making me lose my hold on the poor girl. He grabbed my hair from behind. I moved my right hand behind me slowly until it touched his waist. I put pressure on my hold on his waist. He loosened his hold on my head and I stood up straight, running my hands through my hurting scalp. I didn't want to kill him so I moved to punch him. He dodged it leaving me surprised. By this time we already had an audience but I did not care. As long as I don't shift I will be fine. I wasn't too bad at first fights.
I aimed for his stomach which he was not expecting. Grunting in pain I kicked his leg making him fall. I quickly went back to the girl and helped her up.
“Let’s go,” I said to her holding her by my shoulders. Although my shoulders and body were sore I knew I needed to help her. When we walked far enough she complained of being tired so I helped her seat on the floor.
“What’s your name?” I asked her.
“Sophia” She replied immediately.
“Sophia I am Raina. I will keep you safe ok” She nodded.
“Let me see if I can get any source of running water. I will be right back” I promised her.
I walked for close to ten minutes before I found water. I should have brought her along. How do I get water to her now? I walked rather I ran back to where I left Sophia. She was already sleeping so I carried her with me back to where I found the source of water.
My body disagreed with my activity but I knew it was the right thing to do. I tapped her shoulder gently and she opened her eyes. I placed my palm under the running water and I washed her face with it before helping her drink water. When she drank to her fill I went on my knees to put my two hands under the water and I started drinking. As I was drinking it felt like I was wasting my time because I need the water to be a lot at once in my throat.
Unaware of the movement behind me I felt a sharp pain in my neck.
“Aaah” I screamed moving my hand to my neck. With the stinging feeling I had, I knew this was wolfsbane. My parents thought me some things before they passed away. Like they had taught me I did not remove the arrow in my neck, instead, I broke it right before the tip of the arrow. I turned back quickly and aimed in the direction where the shooting came from.
“Argh!!” I turned back to see Sophia groaning on the floor.
“You are a hunter?!” I asked in disbelieve. How did I not realize this? She ignored me and tried to get up. They had probably seen my wolf before I shifted and planned that while the scenario to kill me.
Without giving her the time to do any further damage I grabbed her head placing my right hand on her head the other underneath her chin before I twisted both parts in opposite directions.
I shifted back to my wolf form despite the knowledge I had about shifting when you were so weak but I had no choice. The pack is far from here and I will never make it if I walked in my human form. So I walked in my wolf, hoping I would get to the pack.
Halfway through I was getting wobbly as I continued to push my wolf to walk further. The wolfsbane in my system making everything worse for me. I saw the familiar trees of the packhouse making me feel a little bit better that I was closer to familiar grounds. As soon as I walked into the packhouse ignoring the whispers of people wondering about the wolf that was walking into the packhouse. What if I was here to kill them? They wouldn't have stopped me from entering. They probably knew I was weak I was so even if wanted to kill them I did not have the strength.
I entered the house and my wolf collapsed as soon as I got to the stairs. I knew that the way I collapsed I was going to shift back instantly.
