Chapter 74
"Dimitri I was so scared" I groaned, sobbing on his shoulders, ignoring his nasty fumes.
"I got you Hailey, we need to leave" Pulling from his embrace, I nod slowly and wipe my eyes as he leads me out of the room.
The smoke in the halls has spread wildly, we struggle through it coughing and walking carefully due to the dead bodies on the floor, praying we don't encounter the fire.
"Hey!" A voice blares from the right, Dimitri's grip on my arm tightens as we fasten our footsteps, the sound of running wolves heading our way bestows the strength to sprint through. They are fast and will soon catch up to us, thinking the same, Dimitri stops standing behind me.
"Hailey I'll hold them off you need to find your way out of the pack house" Dimitri yells in a fighting stance, the wolves approaching him.
"No, I won't leave you" Dimitri is outnumbered. I'll never be able to forgive myself if something happens to him.
"Hailey run and don't turn back, stop thinking!" He yells at the same time a wolf attacks him but he steps out of the way, easily shoving him on his chest.
With a heavy heart, I run away from the fight having faith Dimitri will make it.
I've breathed in so much smoke my liver burns and my nose bleeds.
Running in any direction I try to find my way to the exit when I hear a scream.
Running in the direction of the scream to see a man standing talking and a lady bleeding on the floor vaguely in pain.
The man runs away and I step into the room, detecting the lady is still alive.
Crouching low I picked her up seeing a blade deep in her gut.
The Luna of Crysant pack her curly hair stands out and the sides of her face are smeared in blood.
Her brown eyes stare through me like she's repudiated in thought still trembling underneath me, she attempts to speak but I don't let her.
"Stay calm, keep your eyes open I'll help you" Reaching for the knife in her abdomen I frag it out of her and regret it, she jerks up and lays back, eyes lifeless.
"No no no" I yell, placing my head on her chest. She's not breathing.
"Fuck!" I cry, titling her face. She's dead.
"Yen!" Turning around I see a huge man running into the room he flings me aside picking up the lady carefully sobbing uncontrollably.
He must be the Alpha I step back shivering not knowing what to do.
The Alpha looks at me, his eyes red and stares gravely at me.
"You killed her" He accuses.
"No no" I try to explain but he stands up and the look on his face tells me, deciphering will be futile.
"Hailey!" Dimitri yells, scared I run to him, the Alpha doesn't stop me, returning to his dead mate grieving in agony.
Dimitri holds my hand and leads me out of the pack house.

"No....... can't... please... for ....a second" I say breathing heavily.
We were running towards the forest, the safest route Dimitri said, we already breached a safe distance away from the pack house, and I speculate for a moment that catching my breath will not harm. I bend low, holding my knees, sweating profusely and panting heavily.
"I'm just... glad you're safe" Dimitri says, breathing hard.
He was bleeding on the side of his face I guess from the fight.
"Thank you so much I wouldn't have made it so far without you being here" I appreciated
"Thank me when I get you safely back to the pack house thank goodness I ran into that man"
"Lucas?" A gift from the moon goddess.
"I don't remember him mentioning a name"
"Where is he?" I know it's a silly question since Dimitri knows nothing about him.
Dimitri's eyes go cold and he stands up straight deep in conception.
"He didn't make it," he says, ratifying my suspicions.
My chest tightens even more and my eyes wide in shock.
I look back at the house, watching it go up in flames goosebumps flare on my skin as I realize I should have been caught in all that or I would have been killed by the rivals. "Hailey we need to hurry we have a long way to go"
With a nod we run into the forest, passing trees, boulders, and shrubs through the thick forest.
How much farther" I whine, my ankles aching.
"Far enough to get to my car I had to come by foot because the main roads had been shut down" Dimitri encourages, my heart warms at what he had attained had to help me. "Thank you so much Dimitri I'll ensure Jaden rewards you for your bravery"
"It's nothing Hailey what are friends for?" He says with a smile.
"Just a little more" he coaxes.
But I don't have it in me to walk further.
Sitting on the ground I rub my legs literally hearing them beg for mercy.
"A break just five or maybe ten please"
"Alright, i'll help you" he says placing his hands under my knees attempting to pick me up.
"No you've already done enough this far it will be cruel of me to burden you more" I say to him.
"It's nothing"
Without warning Dimitri carries me in his arms. I don't like the idea of him lifting me but I'm exhausted and the rags I wear did nothing to protect me from the chilling wind. I snuggle on him as he carries me bridal style out of the forest and out to the main road.
"We're here" he announces.
I turn and see a car parked by the side feeling an impediment lift away.
I'm going home to the man I love. Somewhere through the mayhem one of my greatest fears is never knowing how Jaden reacts to the news of his baby.
The moment I get to hold him, I am going to reveal this.
It's his child too, it is unfair to keep it away from him
