Chapter 11: Zia
She couldn’t remember much what happened last night but she knew she was dancing, kissing and drinking with Jaxon. Then everything else was blurry for a few minutes. Her eyes shot opened when everything hit into a place. Brody had cheated on her. She asked Jaxon to have sex with her but he said no. He brought her to his home and slept in his bed.
Her ears were greeted by the sound of the bird chirping that echoed into the room through the opened glass windows. The sun was setting up to the sky and the side next to her was empty but she could still smell his cologne on the pillows and bed sheets. Another series of realization hit her. Zia almost fell off the bed when she ran into the bathroom and saw her appearance. Puffy and red eyes with her hair sticking out like a bird nest. Quickly straightening her appearance, she spotted a toothbrush, a few fresh clothes that smelt like him and a white towel with a letter on the counter.
I have to attend something and didn’t want to wake you up because you looked like an Angel when you’re sleeping. Feel free to use anything there - Jaxon.
She smiled like an idiot at the note and how he found her looking like an Angel when she was sleeping while the truth, she looked like a woman who had gone through the worst divorce and was drinking her ass out at the bar for it.
Without wasting much time, she stripped out of her clothes and took a short hot shower. She didn’t want to stay here for a long time because she knew she had to face Brody later on. As much as she wanted to stay around Jaxon for the rest of the day, she didn’t want her family to freak out where she had been the entire night. There was a high chance that Brody didn’t say anything to them but that was okay for her. A cheating ass like him didn’t have anything else to say. At least, Jaxon was a gentleman enough not to take advantage of her situation.
Zia came out the shower and dried up. She really wanted to see how she would look like in his clothes but she’d rather hold onto the thought. It wasn’t like he would go away anyway. They were practically living in the same town. Then she stared at her own reflection in the mirror. She already had planned to keep seeing Jaxon without her mind registered about it. Something about him that made her attracted to him. Maybe not because of his physique. That was just a bonus. It was something about his touch that made her wanting for more. The way he held her in his arms was a very euphoric moment. Like nothing she ever felt before. And that made her scared a bit. This infatuation wasn’t healthy for both of them. What if he grew bored of her? Would he toss her away? Zia barely could date these past years. As far as she could remember, her relationship with Brody was the longest commitment she ever had.
A man like Jaxon would always have girls throwing themselves to him. He was raging hot and sexy. Any girls would throw themselves to him without a second thought. They could have been prettier than her. What if this was just one-time thing?
“Zia baby?” his voice echoed from the other side of the bathroom’s door.
Her heart fluttered. There it went with the nicknames again.
She opened the door and stepped out, “I’m here.”
He was just in a sweatpants without a shirt and his hair was messy like he had run his hand in them repeatedly. The scars on his chest was beginning to make her questioning things. How did someone have so many scars like that? Was he a war veteran or something? Or did he involve in so many accidents?
Jaxon smiled broadly to her, “Good morning. Did you sleep well?”
Zia blushed and nodded shyly. Of course, she did sleep well. She never slept well in her own bed but in Jaxon’s arms, she just wanted to stay there forever.
He approached her and she could feel the warmth of his body engulfed her in a hug.
“Why are you so beautiful?” he didn’t seem to question that to her. It seemed like he questioned himself. His words made her blushing even more. “I love the way you blushing.”
“I’m not used to compliments.” she admitted.
Really, she never used to compliments. Brody never really compliments her unless she was wearing something sexy or they were about to have sex. When she first woke up, there was no compliment from him.
Jaxon tilted her face to look at his and placed his lips on hers, “A man who never compliment his woman is a fool. Pity, he was a fool to let go a beauty like you.”
There something in his voice that held fury when he spoke of his last statement. Zia knew he was referring to Brody. Why did her heart flutter that Jaxon was saying that to her? She should felt her heart broken seeing her boyfriend cheated on her. But with Jaxon around her, she didn’t feel any sort of pain of the event last night. It seemed like she felt relieved that Brody cheated on her. Was she looking for an opportunity to give to Jaxon to pursue her?
The ringing on her phone snapped her out of everything. Zia startled and quickly pulled her phone out of her pocket. She had received 25 missed calls and numerous texts from Clay and of course, Brody too.
“I--I think I have to go,” she said sadly.
She didn’t want to go. She wanted to know Jaxon more than anything else. But she had a job to do.
He frowned but agreed to her request. He drove her back to the bar where she had left her car last night. Although she was in urgent, Zia felt like she didn’t want to leave his car yet.
“Will I ever see you again?” she asked him as soon as he parked next to her car. “I’m not clingy or anything. I just like being with you.” she blushed at her own sentence.
Jaxon chuckled before twisting his body to look at her. He grabbed a small paper and a pen from the compartment and wrote down his number on it.
“Trust me, vixen. I’m not planning on stopping seeing you. Whenever you need me, give me a call or a text. I’ll come right up.” he put the paper into her palm.
Zia leaned in and pecked a kiss on his lips before leaving his truck with heavy steps. Maybe after the job tonight, she would see him again.
