Justin Time and the Time Trappers

Chapter 15

I had some of the most intense sex I had ever had with Olga. She was great in bed. We probably did it four times before I had knocked out exhausted. I heard a beeping noise suddenly I stirred, realizing it was my alarm to get up to get to work. I reached out and hit it.

I stayed in my bed for a second.

“We need to get to work,” a woman’s voice said.

“I know…” I responded I was still half-asleep.

I suddenly processed the voice in my head. Where was Olga’s accent? I sat up and saw Beth, completely naked putting her underwear on. I looked at her confused.

“What the hell?” I asked mostly to myself.

“Come on we’re going to be late,” Beth said.

Was this some sort of dream? Was I still time jumping? I had no idea. How did I get here? I wondered. Beth looked confused as she put her glasses back on.

“What’s wrong babe?” Beth asked.

“Nothing,” I lied.

I grabbed a Glass next to my bed and looked at the date. I tried to see how much time had passed. It was the next day though. I looked confused and looked back at Beth who was pulling up a skirt.

“Hurry up, we’re going to be late,” Beth said as she put her earrings back on.

“Yeah,” I said. I tried to play it cool. I had no idea how this had happened.

I knew I didn’t hallucinate everything, and I had a great night with Olga, not Beth. I knew I had to find Olga, this had to be the time napper changing strategies all the sudden. Our attempt at seeing who would change the time line after we had prevented the time napping from occurring had created a new branch of time. And I knew it.

I got myself ready. Beth and I shared an awkward ride to the SPADE headquarters. After what seemed like forever, though it probably was only a few minutes. Beth cleared her throat.

“What’s going on Vince?” Beth asked.

I tried not to ask surprised she knew my real name. Vincent Gould was my real name, not that many people knew that. I was going to tell Olga, once our relationship had blossomed.

“Nothing…I just had a weird dream that’s all.” I said.

I was wishing it was a dream. Was I still being time napped? Or did the culprit change his strategy, did they go after Olga? I was worried about that. I had to find her.

“Oh, you mind telling me?” Beth asked.

“I was still in a temporal displacement,” I said telling her a half truth.

“Woah,” Beth said she reached out and grabbed my free hand.

I looked at her sideways as I drove the hovermobile through the city. I had to admit she was cute. I could see if my life had been different, I probably would have been with her. I thought maybe I can see where this branch off went, I mean Beth was close to my age…but then I started to think of Olga and that girly side she had, and my heart fluttered. No, I had to find her.

“I’m doing better right now,” I said letting Beth hold my free hand.

I decided to play out this we were a couple scenario. Enough so that it made it seem that I didn’t notice that the time had branched off. Maybe I wouldn’t have noticed it, maybe I would have thought that it was all an illusion, but Olga’s actual personality was gnawing away at my unconsciousness.

What in the hell happened? I tried to rewind what had happen in my mind a lot as I made it through the busy streets. Eventually I made it through the city to the SPADE headquarters. We made our way to it.

“Vinny!” a voice called out as we walked up the stairs into the building.

Beth and I looked around, I was shocked.

“Marx Browne what the hell are you doing here?” I asked walking down the stairs and meeting with an old friend of mine Marx Browne.

Marx was about my age, and he had big shoes to fill. He was the son of the legendary Albrecht Browne, but that was back on Golordia, I had no idea how he wound up here on Saffar, but I guess we would find out soon. I went over and shook Marx’s hand.

“Your boss called me, on a lead.” Marx said.

Marx was from Golordia Epsilon, he was darker skinned more than most other Golordians. Marx had short curly hair, a goatee, and he had his trademark knives all over on these straps over his chest. Marx was training to become a master knife fighter. When I knew him a couple of years ago, he was already an expert knife fighter.

“Paula called you?” I asked.

“She said you caught a haul,” Marx said. “A potential Project Rho, creation.”

“That’s what I thought,” I said and then noticed Beth was right next to me as if waiting to be introduced. “Oh, right this is Beth.”

“She your girl?” Marx said cocking his eyebrow.

“Yeah,” I said shrugging. “Marx and I are old friends,” I said to Beth.

“Nice to meet you,” Beth smiled.

“Pleasure,” Marx said.

“Well I got to get going,” Beth said, and she walked off.

“See you,” Marx said and then turned over to me. “The hell Vinny? How did you land a girl like her?”

“I don’t know,” I said honestly.

“Well anyways, I have to go talk to your boss about that thing you found.” Marx said. I was wondering if me meeting Marx was part of the changes. I had my mind focused on something else, I had to find Olga, and we have to regroup and find out what to do next.
