Invisible Mate ( Mate Series Book 1)

Chapter The Alternative

On the full moon day, Chris and Liam went to the Silverlake pack. They asked to meet Axel, who agreed reluctantly. He had not forgiven them yet for what they did to his sister.

" What is it?” Axel asked with a blank face.

" We need to discuss something,” Liam said.

" About what?”

Chris informed Axel about their plans to help Alexa.

" Are you sure you want to do it?” Axel asked skeptically because he was still unsure whether Chris would sacrifice his wolf for Adele.

" Absolutely,” Chris said without doubt.

" No problem then.” Axel was more concerned about his sister than her mates, so it didn’t bother him much. He took out his phone and called Sybil, asking her to meet him immediately at the Pack.

Sybil and Sera came to the Silverlake pack, and Chris again told her about his plan.

“I am not sure whether this would work on any day other than the Blood Moon day,” Sybil said thoughtfully.

" What if it does?” Liam asked hopefully.

Adele, who was passing by, happened to overhear them and stormed into the office.

" What the f**k are you trying to do?” she asked Liam and then turned to Sybil. ” What were you saying about the blood moon day?”

Everyone was shocked at the sudden interruption. Nobody replied to her, so Adele asked Sera, ” What’s going on, Sera?”

Sera looked at Chris, who was shaking his head as if to say no, but Adele insisted.

" C-Chris said he would release Alexa...”

" You know it’s not possible,” Adele interrupts.

" Listen to what they have to say, Ade,” Axel said calmly.

" Fine!! I am all ears,” Adele huffed.

Sera looked at Chris, indicating him to continue.

" My wolf suggested... he should be the one trapped in the stone instead of Alexa.”

Adele was confused. ” What do you mean?”

“He wants to release Alexa and take her place.”

Once Adele realized what he meant, she scoffed, ” Are you out of your mind? You want to be the hero now?”

" We don’t want to be the hero. We are just trying to help you,” Liam said.

" I don’t need your help. I told you I could manage it,” Adele seethed angrily.

" I can’t see you in pain,” Chris screamed in desperation. ” When I think you will have to face it for two more years, I can’t bear it. Above all, knowing that I am the reason for your pain is even more frustrating.”

Adele was dumbstruck at his sudden display of emotions.

" Please, Adele, give us a chance to help you,” Chris pleaded.

Chris was a prideful person, and he almost begging her was totally unexpected. She signed and said calmly, ” I understand why you want to do it, but I don’t think it’s possible.”

" Will it not work, Sybil?” Axel asked her.

" I don’t know. I am sure the three-person ritual can only be done on the Blood moon day, but I have no idea about the other possibility,” Sybil remarked.

" Is there any way to find out?” Chris insisted.

" There’s no point, Chris. It’s too risky,” Adele stated.

" Why is it risky?”

" Do you think Samara is a fool? She knows everything; she might be hearing you right now,” Adele said, exasperated. ” The first time, Alexa could do it because she caught her off-guard. Now Samara wouldn’t even give us a chance.”

" Then how do you expect us to do it after two years?” Liam asked.

" That time, it will be three of us, and we will be prepared for it.”

" Adele is right,” Sybil interrupted. ” Samara is already furious; she might try to kill you the moment she is out. Also, as today is a normal full moon day, we don’t even know whether you would be successful in trapping her. What if it doesn’t work?”

" Yes, we can’t take that risk. Alexa’s sacrifice would be in vain,” Axel pointed out.

" Then what can we do to relieve her pain?” Chris asked Sybil.

" The only solution is to hide the moonstone far away from her.”

" No way,” Adele barked. ” I won’t leave Alexa alone.”

" But...” Liam started.

" Don’t even try,” Adele sneered, instantly shutting him up.

" In that case, I suggest you guys must start training from now on,” Sybil stated.

" What training?” Chris asked.

" You three need to train to be prepared to fight with Samara after two years.”

" I don’t need...” Chris started, but Liam stopped him by squeezing his hand. ” Yes, we definitely need to train.”

" Don’t you want to be with Adele?” Liam said to Chris through mind link.

" Oh yes, we need training,” Chris said hurriedly.

" You train at your pack; I will train here,” Adele said casually.

" No,” Liam said abruptly. ” We must learn to fight together.”

" Why?” Adele asked, folding her arms.

" We need to learn to work together, Adele,” Liam remarked. ” If there is no coordination among us, then we wouldn’t be able to fight the witch.”

Adele wanted to refuse, but she knew that Liam was right. ” Okay, we will see,” she said reluctantly.

Liam glanced at Chris, looking impressed.

Adele got ready to leave but paused when she heard the familiar deep voice she had been listening to for the past year.

" What a bunch of scumbags,” Samara roared for everyone to hear.

Everyone was shocked when the atmosphere became eerie, and Adele’s locket glowed red. " This is the last warning Black. Release me this instant.”

" No, I won’t,” Chris growled.

Samara was enraged. " I have had enough of your nonsense. Now you will see the actual extent of my power.”

The whole room was filled with cries of agony when everyone felt severe pain in their heads. The pain subsided after a few minutes, and Samara repeated, ” What have you decided now?”

" It’s a no,” Adele yelled while panting for breath. ” Why do you bother to ask again and again?”

" I know exactly how to compel you,” Samara smirked and chuckled evilly.

Everything was quiet for a few seconds. They were expecting the pain to come back, but nothing happened.

" What is she planning to do now?” Sera asked.

Before anyone could answer, they heard the loud cries of the twins.

" Ian, Iris,” Adele rushed out of the office in a panic, with others following.

The kids were wailing loudly, and their nanny looked worried.

" What happened?” Adele asked the nanny and picked Iris while Chris took Ian. They checked to see if the kids were hurt, but they looked fine.

" I-I don’t know; they won’t stop crying.”

Adele desperately tried to calm her baby down, but whatever she did, she wouldn’t stop.

" I-Is it the witch?” Liam asked, looking tense.

" Can she do it?” Adele looked at Sybil for answers.

Sybil nodded and screamed at Samara, ” How can you be so evil, Samara? They are just babies.”

" I don’t care,” Samara snickered. " I will kill them today. I will teach you all a lesson.”

Adele couldn’t hold her tears anymore. She felt helpless seeing her kids in pain and not being able to do anything. ” Please do something,” Adele begged Chris and Liam. ” Make it stop.”

" Stop it, Samara,” Chris barked. “I swear I will destroy you.”

Samara did not respond, just gave an evil laugh.

" Get that moonstone away from here,” Sybil cried out.

Adele gave the moonstone to Axel, who locked it in his office, but the kids were still in pain.

” Why are they still in pain?” Liam asked, almost in tears.

" I don’t know how Samara can affect them from such a long distance.” Sybil looked defeated.

" Please, Samara, not my kids. I beg you to stop,” Adele pleaded, and Liam hugged her helplessly. ” Please, please stop... Somebody do something... Somebody... Anybody... Alexa... Alexa, please stop her... She’s hurting your pups.”

Unexpectedly, the kids stopped crying, and everything turned back to normal in a few seconds. Adele wiped her tears and hugged Iris feeling relieved.

" What happened? How did she stop suddenly?” Sera asked, confused.

" I-I think it was Alexa who stopped her.”

" Alexa? How did she do it?”

" I don’t know how but I am sure it’s her. She would never allow anyone to hurt her kids,” Adele said proudly.
