Indecent Folks

Chapter 9

I woke up to the sound of the birds chirping while the morning breeze hugged my skin. My gaze shifted to the window, having my eyes burned by the sunlight, so I turned to the hunk beside me. A yawn escaped my lips as I stared at his bare

chest.

"You up?" he suddenly whispered in a hoarse, deep voice.

I gently nodded and smiled at him while he opened his eyes. He smiled back before kissing my forehead and caressing my shoulder. I used my forearm to support my weight and gently caressed the scar on his rib. "It left a scar," I whispered. "Does it still hurt?"

He shook his head, prompting me to sigh in relief. "How does the sun doesn't burn you?" I asked as I watched the sunlight kissing his skin.

He licked his lips before he tucked my hair behind my ear. "So you missed your mystic breed classes when you're young?" he teased. I pouted and rolled my eyes, prompting him to giggle. "My father bought a potion in an auction after I turned. Then Paige recreated it for the whole village," he answered.

"It's nice how you share everything with everyone."

"They're all I have." His voice was satisfying as he spoke, like the breeze that wakes you up from a nice sleep or the coffee you had in the morning.

A smile made its way onto my lips as I traced his. "I enjoyed last night," I whispered.

"Don't provoke me with that voice." He bit his lower lip before lifting his head to kiss me, but I stopped his mouth with my index finger.

"I thought of a brilliant plan," I informed him.

"Here we go."

"What? I haven't even said it yet," I said, slightly amused by his expression. I cleared my throat and propped my forearms as I faced the bed. "Once I successfully made a Sapper, I want to drink it somewhere else." I turned to see his reaction. He just gave me a lazy look. "If I can prove to you that the Sapper works, will you let me go?" I asked.

He blinked and afterwards clenched his jaw. "When did you think about this plan?" I was about to answer, but he seems to have a couple in mind. "Before the sex? Or while I was licking you?"

My mouth hung open when I traced the anger in his voice. Please don't act up now. "After, of course. Look, you don't expect me to stay here forever, right? I have a life outside."

"A life?" he asked in disbelief. "Prison life, you mean?"

I clenched my jaw as his insulting eyes bore into me. "I just want to be free." My voice cracked, and it somehow snapped him out of his anger.

He sighed and caressed my arm while his eyes gave me a reassuring look. "Alright. If you can make a Sapper and prove to me that it works, then you don't have to drink it here. However..." He pointed his finger at me. "I'll send someone to make sure that you drink it."

I nodded and cleared my throat before turning to the other side of the bed. My jaw dropped when I found that I couldn't wear my clothes again. I felt the blanket over my shoulders, followed by Rougan's whisper in my ear. "There are robes in my closet."

I know he was entirely naked behind me, so I stood without looking at him and entered his closet. It was huge. There were four cabinets, two racks, and a long shelf for his shoes. I took a cotton robe from the rack closest to me and put it on. My eyes landed on the mirror fixed at the cabinet's door, so I stood in front of it and ran my fingers through my hair. A smirk made its way onto my lips when I realized that the sex paid off. I figured that it becomes easy to get Rougan's permission when he's sexually turned on; the leader suddenly becomes a slave. I cleared my throat and took another robe before heading out.

My jaw dropped when I saw him drinking by the table, exposing his round buns. I cleared my throat audibly and looked away. From the side of my eyes, I saw him turning to me while he chuckled. "Why are you standing there? Come have breakfast," he called.

I walked to the table and frowned. Breakfast was indeed already prepared. I shoved the robe on his chest without taking my eyes off the food, ready to throw a fit. "They came in here while we're both naked in the bed?"

He turned to me, and I did my best not to look down there while he slipped his robe on. "They're women too," he replied.

I squinted my eyes at him. "I bet you've already bedded them, so they're now used to seeing those arms and butts, aren't they?"

He chuckled before gently pulling the chair in front of me. "They're all family to me," he explained, which reminded me of our conversation last night. I settled on the chair that he pulled for me and had breakfast with him.

"Do you want to have a room in this wing?" he asked while I picked up my torn garments on the floor. I glanced at him and saw him drinking straight on a wine bottle-the red liquid stained on his lips, so I jolted and turned my back on him. Is it okay to see him drinking blood? It felt like a private thing.

"I can hear you panting. What's wrong?" Rougan asked.

I cleared my throat and shook my head before leaving my garments on the bedside table. "Nothing." I sprinted towards the door, but he suddenly appeared in front of me, prompting me to hold my breath and lose my balance. He caught me with his arm and wrapped his waist around me. His lips curved into a playful smile. "You're afraid I'd bite you?" he whispered while he tucked my hair behind my shoulder.

"If I don't want you to, would you have listened to me?" I asked, a little irritated. "If you bite me without my permission, that's rape."

"If I bite you without permission, it's assault, baby. You seriously should have listened to your teacher."

I pursed my lips and look away. He chuckled before placing a soft peck on my shoulder. His kisses went up to my neck and jaw before he pressed his lips against mine. It was gentle, and every time our lips would touch, it ignites a part of my body.

I gasped when his hand slipped into my robe. His fingers slowly traced the skin on my stomach until it reached my sensitive part. The sensation made me weak in the knees, so I grabbed his shoulder while my other hand landed on his chest. A soft moan escaped my lips while we stared at each other. He took pride in what he was doing to me, but I was too preoccupied to maintain a straight face. "Are we really...doing this here," I whispered while pleasure snatched my judgment.

He held me tighter and smiled. "We will do this anywhere you like," he replied before kissing me again.

He finally carried me and pinned me against the wall without breaking our kiss. I immediately felt his member against my robe, but we froze when someone knocked on the door. I pushed him, but he still gently put me down. "What is it?" he asked whoever's outside.

"Sawyer is still fixing the wagon, Sir. He said that we would be delayed for a few hours," said the woman outside.

I didn't bother turning to Rougan as I walked towards the door, but he caught my arm and gazed at me intently. "If a vamp looks at you for more than five seconds and makes you uncomfortable, you tell me," he said.

I frowned at him. "Stop being so righteous all of a sudden. You're keeping me here as a prisoner, have you forgotten?" I spat.

He smirked and crossed his arms in front of me. "You're supposed to be locked up, anyway. You're convicted, have you forgotten?" he taunted with a smirk on his lips. Then he laid his arms and looked around his room. "So, where do you think is better? Your cell in Midplains or my bed?"

I punched his chest out of spite, but he just laughed at me. When I opened the door, the handmaid was still waiting outside, holding a tray of towels.

"Good morning, Miss Dani."

"Hi. Uh, my garments are still inside. Could you throw them away for me?"

"Throw them away, Miss Dani? Each of your dresses is about 200 shillings," she informed me.

"Are you serious? Rougan ripped it!" I blurted.

Her eyes almost bulged out of their sockets. "P-pardon?"

My cheeks heated, and I couldn't find words to say until Rougan suddenly spoke from his room. "Sorry for that!" he apologized.

I bit my lower lip from embarrassment. He must be amused right now! The handmaid turned to me, but I was too ashamed to meet her gaze, so I walked away as fast as possible. The structure of this mansion truly sickens me. I have to step outside before I could get to the door on the right-wing. Why would they close the doors that connect both wings?

I stood at the entrance and saw a familiar figure walking out of the greenhouse. Lauren held a basket, and a small towel hung on her shoulder. She caught me from the side of her eyes, so I weighed if I should approach her, but she already went on her way.

Our conversation yesterday isn't great, but it wasn't the worst I had either. I didn't expect that she'd take it seriously. I took a bath and changed into a navy-blue dress and a black coat that hugged my upper body's shape. Someone knocked on the door, so I glanced at its reflection from the mirror. "Yes?" I asked while I tied my hair into a bun.

"Good morning, Miss Dani. Lauren wanted to say that she'll be waiting in the greenhouse."

Waiting? "Alright, thank you. I'll be outside in a minute."

I finished fixing my hair and put on a pair of boots before heading out. The sun felt good against my skin while the village was busy as usual. "Come on, Carter! It's already Monday, stop playing around!" an old man said to I supposed his son. They unloaded logs from a wagon, and the young man moved lazily.

Sunday. Is today, January 6? I looked at the sky, and the longer I stared at it, the more I saw something peculiar. There was like a translucent dome above the village, like a bubble but yellow.

"Hey," Sawyer called as he walked from behind the neighbourhood to my left.

Even from my peripheral vision, I could see the dome, so I looked up again. "Do you see that?" I asked.

He craned his neck and gazed from left to right like he was finding something. "See what?"

"There's a dome above us," I whispered.

He furrowed his brows while he stared at me like a puzzle he was trying to solve. "Lauren and Paige are waiting for you in the greenhouse."

"Did they tell you what for?"

He didn't even answer and just walked away. "Rude," I mumbled before heading to the greenhouse. From the glass wall, I saw Lauren and Paige talking beside a table. This pair looks dangerous, but I need all the help I could get since Rougan was keen to keep me here. They didn't fail to let me know how much they hated me here, so they could undoubtedly help me.

I entered the greenhouse, and they immediately noticed me, so Lauren, leaning against the table, stood properly and crossed her arms. I saw another figure in a corner, and it was a man wearing a pair of spectacles and has nicely combed-over hair. He was reading a paper on his table while a brown barrel bag sat atop the table. It was slightly open, so I saw some small jars and herbs. "That's Cooper," Lauren introduced.

Cooper shifted his gaze to my direction and froze instantly while his jaw dropped in surprise. "Uh...I didn't know that a fugitive could be " He trailed before squinting his eyes like there were words he was trying to read on my face. "Stunning."

Lauren cleared her throat, and it snapped Cooper out of his...I don't know what to call that. Is he one who's making the Sapper? "So he's Sawyer's friend?" I asked Lauren.

She bit her lower lip and shrugged like I was supposed to know. I looked at the guy from head to toe. "How old are you?" I asked.

"30,” he replied before smiling sweetly. "And you're Dani. 29, born in Southplains?" he asked.

"It seems like you were informed very well," I replied, but I had my eyes fixed on the ladies.

Lauren rolled her eyes at me before turning to Paige. "Go on and tell her."
