It’s been three months since Little Wolf and I camped out last. Since then three more groups have left RavenWood and they are nastier to my sweet Little Wolf than all the ones before them.

He’s struggling now more than ever and I’m busier now so it’s harder for me to be there for him. I have other responsibilities but I spend every moment I can with him, even going so far as to bail on Brandon, Owen or Marcus during patrol. Sometimes I switch with Sadie or Tessa so I can go with Little Wolf on his patrol.

“Alester, hun, how’s the training house coming?”

“Hey mom, it’s going slow. The foundation finally poured this week. Now we’re piecing together the sections we put together while we waited”.

“I’m proud of you but you’ve always made me proud”.

“Thanks Mom. I’m just glad other Alpha’s are wanting to train with us. A lot of the ones I talked to used to be close to Les”.

“Just remember not to give up all our secrets”.

“I know Mom”.

“Tracy, my love, how are you feeling?” I quirk a brow at Alpha Zane as he joins us.

“I’m fine, I’ll leave you to it.” She kissed my cheek and hugged Alpha Zane goodbye.

“Alester, I need to speak with you and your team. I got a call from the Alpha of the Alaskan pack White Moon. Ten minutes”.

I link the team to let them know we have a meeting in ten minutes and they all say they will arrive shortly.

I run up to the office and not long after Kody, Marcus, Tessa, Sadie, Brandon and Mason run into the office. Sadie trained us on stealth techniques and with my scent block training we are a force to be reckoned with.

We get hired by Alpha’s all over the world for recovery missions. This will be our fourth one.

Our first was a hostage situation when a group of hunters found a newly formed pack in Russia.

Second was a powerful pack’s Luna kidnapped hoping for leverage in some business deal in China.

The third was a hard mission. A Luna from Florida was kidnapped by her father because he didn’t like her mate. He killed her unborn cub before we even got the call. The monster cut it from her and delivered it to her mate.

That one broke my fucking heart. We ended up taking out her father and getting her home but she’s not the same. That one was hard for Kody. He was pretty catatonic after that mission.

Everyone sits and waits for Zane to hand out the files.

“My friend, Alpha Travis from Alaska called me this morning. His daughter was on a hunt with her brother and a couple other pack members. She didn’t come back. That was a week ago. Today they were sent a video of her tied up and gagged. She didn’t appear to be hurt but they said it would be the last time they ever saw her. We need to get her back”.

“Tessa and Marcus will leave for Alaska immediately. I have a feeling that she’s not in Alaska anymore. Whoever took her won’t have enough protection there and I’ve heard the Alaskan White Moon Pack knows the land well.” I pace.

“Sadie before you ask, you can’t go. I know you’re frustrated by that but you and Brandon can start asking around here for information and you can help her. The rest of us will be here on standby to head the recovery”.

“I already have a bag packed, do we have a flight?” Tessa asks.

“I’ll call Gabe. We’ll have a flight within the hour.” Marcus tells her.

Alpha Zane then dismisses everyone but Kody and myself. This worries me, I know some of the Raven Wood wolves have been frustrating him. Everyone gets up and heads out to get a start on our new mission. Kody and I wait for Alpha Zane to start talking.

After a long awkward silence he begins to talk, “Alester, Kody I’d be absolutely delighted if you two would take over the pack when I’m ready to pass it down”.

I stand there with my mouth flapping like a fish out of water, no sound emanating from me.

“I don’t have any biological cubs yet and you’re the only Alpha here aside from Kody.” he continues.

I look over at Kody and he blushes ferociously. He’s an alpha? His fighting skill makes sense now.

“Don’t look at me like that... I’m too broken to be an alpha”.

“Little Wolf, that is complete and utter nonsense. Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I’m a disgrace to the Alpha bloodline!” he yells.

“Kody.” Zane grabs his attention, “that is not true. You are more worthy of the title than most Alpha’s I know, myself included”.

Kody smiles uncomfortably and excuses himself from the rest of the meeting.

“I’d be honoured to take over Blue Moon for you when you are ready. Thank you Alpha”.

“Well Alester, your brother or sister won’t be born for a while yet and then they have about eighteen years of training and then have a mate to find”.

“I’m sorry, what?”

“Oh... I’m sorry Alester, I hadn’t realized your mother hadn’t told you yet”.

“You guys are having a cub!”

I’m thrilled! I always wanted to be a brother. It sucks that the little one will be so much younger than me but I’m excited anyway.

“Yes, in about three more months you’ll be a brother”.

“If you’ll excuse me, I must go find my mother”.

“Of course”.

I ran out of the room searching her out. I’ve noticed she likes to watch the cubs playing outside on nice days so I head around to their designated play area. There she is playing with Mia and Tia. They love my mom so much.

Their dad was killed in a rogue attack before they were born so their mama has relied on the support of the Blue Moon community to help her with them. They are some wild little girls. They are three and into absolutely everything.

Black curls bouncing wildly in the wind. They look just like their father. Their mom, Sun, is a gorgeous Asian woman and their dad was African American, they look just like him. He did training with us before he found her. I’m glad he was happy before she got taken from us.

They are just about the most beautiful little girls I’ve ever seen. My mom adores them and has become like a grandmother to them.

“Mom!”

“Oh hello darling, how was your meeting, oh and look at what the girls made me”.

She holds out a onesie with a colourful scribbled mess on it.

“It’s cute mom, when were you going to tell me?”

“I told you... I thought I told you”.

“No mom, I heard from Alpha Zane because he thought I knew already”.

“I’m sorry. I guess my pregnancy brain is out in full force”.

I pick her up and spin her around.

“So am I going to have a sister or brother?”

“A brother and a sister, I haven’t told Zane yet”.

“Twins!”

“It’s going to be a lot of work. Thankfully Tia and Mia promised to help me”.

I gave her an odd look and she told me to relax because cubs aren’t as fragile as I think they are. If she trusts the girls to be around them then that’s good enough for me. I tell her she should go tell Zane because I know he’ll be over the moon.

I am super happy for mom and Zane. They both deserve all the happiness in the world. I’m heading back towards the house and I see my sweet Little Wolf.

“Hey”.

“Hi Little Wolf.” I ran over and hugged him.

“Are you alright?”

I’m... Yeah I’m ok”.

“Little Wolf you’re the strongest wolf I know. I really hate that you’re still so hard on yourself. You’re a top warrior, you survived a life of torture and abuse. Even after all the hell you went through you found the strength to trust wolves, to trust me.

“Just not enough to complete the bond.” he says while he looks down in shame and picks his cuticles nervously.

“I’m not going to rush you. Lex is fine as long as he gets to sleep near you and hold you. I’ll wait for you”.

He turns away and says he’s going to get something to eat. I want to go with him but I have to go and see Marcus and Tessa off.

The pack has been super busy building new homes and adding on to the pack house. Les lost a lot and still seems to be losing pack members. Vinny, his mate Jessika and her brother Samuel are our latest arrivals. They were friends with Stacey back in RavenWood so they’ve settled in faster than some of the others.

They actually wanted to train with my team but I don’t trust them, not completely. I don’t need more on my team right now and they wouldn’t be my top choices anyway.

When I finally get to the front of the house Tessa and Marcus are playfully arguing.

“Are you absolutely sure you packed everything?” she asks him clearly doubting he did,

“Yes woman” he groans.

“Alright but if you forgot something I don’t want to hear you bitching about it the entire time.” she snips back at him.

“Quit arguing you two! Tessa is right though you do tend to forget shit... a lot”.

He glares at me, “shut it Alester! What happened to bros before hoes?”

Tessa immediately turns to face him with a murderous look on her face. You’d think he wouldn’t be so stupid but it’s Marcus. He is still waiting for my response but I honestly don’t want to say a word.

“Marcus Gunn, did you just call me a hoe?”

“No babe, I wouldn’t dare I-”

“You get nothing from me the whole trip. NOTHING!”

I laugh and Marcus tries to apologize and get her to change her mind. This goes on for a few minutes before I finally get back to business.

“Have a safe flight. Here is the satellite phone. They have to run quite a ways to get to town to make calls and we don’t have that kind of time during this mission”.

I hug them both and send them off so I can go find my little wolf. I thought he’d be eating in the kitchen but when I get in there Jessika, Samuel and Vinny are here, I wonder if they know where he is?

“Have you seen Kody?”

“Nope.” Jessika answers almost immediately.

“Who is Kody?” Samuel asks.

That pisses me off a little. I know they know who my mate is.

“Sorry man, he’s not here.” Vinny replies.

“Well that is odd. He said he was getting a snack... how are you all settling in?”

“We’re settling in great, thanks.” Samuel says while the others nod.

“Ok well let me know if you need anything”.

They say they will and then go off to find Stacey. I wonder where my little wolf went. I try to scent him out but he’s scent blocking.

"Kody, where are you?” I wait a moment and link him again, ”little wolf?”

When he doesn’t answer I link the pack, ”has anyone seen Kody?”

"Kody, baby? Where did you go?” I am starting to panic.

He’s just gone.
