Chapter 34- The End
I watch her as she plays with her dolls, making them talk and walk all over the attic floor. She happily giggles before turning to me. "Want to play with me?"
I nod gently and make my way towards her. As I gaze down at her small frame I smile. "You know good things happen to good people, yes?"
She looks up at me with big doe like eyes, youth pouring out of them. "Yes." She mumbles and sets her dolls down.
"Well, sometimes bad things happen to good people too." I tell her and kneel down beside her.
A delicate frown forms on her face. "Why?" She pouts, peering down at the boarded floors.
"It is just how the world works." I place my hand on her back and she glances back at me. "Someday, you will get lost-"
"Where?"
I pause and look at her, "well, in a forest."
"Huh," she mumbles again and picks up one of her dolls. "Can she come with me?"
"Yes, she can, but when you get lost, you won't know which way to go. You may feel sad or angry, but I want you to know that I will always be here with you, even if it seems like I am not."
She stays quiet.
"Don't worry. Even though something bad may happen to you, and you have been the best little girl, there will be people to help you out of the forest."
"Who? You?" She asks and grabs onto my dress, playing with the small, blue stones.
"Yes, and also your friends."
She tugs on my gown. "You're my friend."
"I am, but you will have more friends Evangeline, and a man named Sebastian. They will help you get out of the forest."
She sighs and lays back on my lap. "I don't want a man- boys are pigs." Suddenly giggles erupt from her as she laughs at herself.
I lightly laugh. "Well for now. But you must not give up on them okay?"
She nods her head frantically. "You won't leave me?"
"Never, you are my favorite little girl Evangeline."
She rests her head on my lap and closes her soft eyes. "I love you, moon goddess."
"I love you too."
