Chapter 21
"It was a joke." I mumble and pull the blankets over my legs. "I got scared for no reason."
"What kind of joke would make you say things like that?" He crosses his arms. "You thought you were going to die?"
"In the moment yes, and I don't want you to worry or get angry at people."
"I'm going to find out who's fault this is anyways, but I would rather hear it from you." He says and sits down on the bed.
I sigh and look over at him with an innocent expression. "Sebastian can we just forget about it, I'm fine now."
"I'm not letting this go, that message- if I heard it while I was away and I didn't know if you were safe or not, I would loose my mind."
My heart drops. "I know, that's the last thing I would've wanted to happen, and if I tell you promise me you won't get angry at them?"
"I won't get angry."
"It was Henry and Kandy, and Fiona joined in. They pranked me and I took it too far. They made me think people got into the house and that they were going to kill me."
He pauses for a minute before looking up at me with a confused expression. "Why?"
I shrug, "I don't know, it was supposed to be funny I guess."
"I'll talk to Henry in the morning."

I wait for Doctor Swanson on the examination table quietly. When she comes in I move my head up and smile. "It's just me today, Sebastian had to catch up on a few things."
"Well that's okay, this is just a check up so I'm sure nothing eventful will happen. Now let's take a look at the baby so lay down, and I'll grab everything."
I stare at the screen, watching the little thing inside me. Doctor Swanson doesn't say anything as she studies the baby, making sure everything is still going smoothly. "She's still growing fast, but I think your body has gotten somewhat used to it. We still need to be carful though because I don't know if it could suddenly go wrong."
"What do you mean by go wrong?" I ask, turning away from the screen.
"There's still many cautions we need to take. If the baby ends up having problems because of this she could be a stillborn."
I swallow and rest my head against the chair. "And if that happens?"
"You still have to give birth, but the baby-"
"She'll be dead." I mumble. I can't even imagine after all this time that my baby would be stillborn. She has to be alright or I don't know what I would do.
"It's a very terrible experience, but it happens to more women than you think. We don't have to think about it now because she is still healthy and there's still three more months."
"Okay, I'm glad she's doing well."
After I leave the office I see the car waiting outside for me. I get in and we make our way back to the pack grounds. When we near Fiona's house I tell them to stop the car so I can get out, and when I do, I walk up to her front door. After I ring the door bell it only takes her a few seconds to answer. When her eyes set on me she seems somewhat surprised. "Hey." She mumbles, leaning against the door frame.
"Hey." I mumble back. "I just came to apologize for freaking out at you, you know, pregnant women."
A small smile is visible on her face. "You know I wouldn't have done it if you were going to react like you did?"
"I know." I say. "And you know that you're my best friend right?"
"I know." Her smile grows bigger.
"There's something that I've never told you." I know she can't help but be curious about what I have to say so Fiona raises her eyebrows. "And I want to tell you now."
Before I realize it, Fiona pulls me into the house and closes the door then drags me to the living room. She pushes me down on a chair and crosses her arms. "Okay tell me."
I can't help but laugh and it takes me a moment to calm down. "You're crazy you know that?"
"You're crazy too, now I wanna know!" She wines.
"Okay okay, but there's one thing, you can't think I'm crazy."
"Evangeline I already know you're crazy, it's a fact." She sits down herself and stares bluntly at me.
"Well, it's a different kind of crazy and I need you to know that I'm being serious when I tell you."
She groans and waves me on to continue. "Okay, I sometimes talk to a woman, and she's not like us-"
"You see dead people!" Fiona shouts. "It's like the Sixth Sense!"
"No, well... No she's not dead, she's the moon goddess."
Her face falls blank. "What?"
"I can talk and see the moon goddess." I say more slowly.
"Like the moon goddess that our ancestors practically worshiped?"
"Yes." I smile and place my hands in my lap. "You know it was much harder to tell Seba-"
"What!" She screams, causing my heart to skip a beat. "You talk to the moon goddess! How!"
"Well I can't-"
"Oh my god!" She continues. "Tell me this isn't a joke, this is so weird but totally amazing!"
I flinch. "Stop screaming."
"I'm sorry- this is just crazy, it's- you talk to her?"
"Yes." I nod. "Ever since I was born."
She pauses. "I don't get it, how do you talk to her?"
"Well sometimes she just appears and she looks human like us but she has this magical aroma. We talk just like we are now, it's strangely normal." I explain while Fiona watches me, incredibly intrigued.
"Evangeline, I have so many questions but how could you not tell me sooner, I mean you have this ability or gift or whatever you call it?"
"I don't know, I just never felt like it was something I had to tell everyone about because of my safety, but I'm glad I'm telling you now."
She smiles. "So Sebastian knows?"
"Yes, Sebastian and Henry know." I say. "Oh and that whole kidnapping situation was because of my ability. There's people out there that know what I can do and they try to hurt me. Same with my relatives that hold this gift."
"So you inherited it, did your mom have it?"
"No."
"So the baby won't?" She asks and I turn to the side.
"That's a little complicated."
She stops. "So the baby will?"
"Yes, let's just leave it at that."
Fiona continues asking questions and I'm happy to answer them. I'm glad our petty little argument is over and we're back to normal, I can't spend a day without her. She makes my life more crazy but I'm glad to finally have a true friend that I can count on. Fiona and I are best friends for life and nothing can change that, even in my dream we were still friends.
When she runs out of questions to ask I tell her more about my childhood and how my father has left the pack. She too is surprised to find out they're trying to start a new pack. I also update her on my doctors appointment and what Doctor Swanson said. She tells me not to worry, assuring me that my baby will be just fine.
"Evangeline, since you told me about your gift, I need to tell you something too and it's about Kandy."
"Okay." I say nervously, mostly for Henry.
"She has some issues, and I think that's why she was rejected."
"What do you mean by issues?" I question.
"Well, Kandy can be very controlling and I just want to warn you for Henry's sake. She's very persuasive."
"Should I tell Henry?"
She sighs. "That's up to you, but I don't know if he'll believe you now that they're mates."
"Well maybe I can try, just as a gentle warning."
